FOX Picks Up ‘Back To You’

Hacky comedy at its worst

Sometimes network executives boggle the mind with the shows they decide to pick up or, adversely, kick to the curb. One such moment is decision to pick up the horribly hacky news anchor comedy, , for a full 24-episode season. Are you kidding me? Ok, I like , I really do - and I think he has a lot of dry comedy potential. But ? Uck! There is nothing about Heaton that would make me subject myself to a half hour of listening to her voice set up hacky jokes that are only validated by some crappy laugh-track. And with the not-off-the-charts ratings the show has gotten, I’d guess that I’m not alone. How a great show like Lucky Louie gets dumped while this show is allowed to stay on the air is beyond me.

Oh yeah, and picked up six more scripts for . More like, “Samantha Who gives a crap?”

‘Gossip Girl’ Fans To Get a Full Season

Gossip GirlStrong word-of-mouth has earned CW newbie, Gossip Girl, a full-season order.  The Josh Schwartz () series is a perfect replacement for those who loved his last production, The show stars (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) as Serena van der Woodsen, a girl who returns to her vicious private school after mysteriously leaving town.  plays Blair Waldorf, Serena’s former best friend and current frenemy.

The catty series has so far proven to be a much darker version of our typical teenage dramas (imagine The O.C. plus Heathers).  And with voyeuristic narration supplied by the anonymous ‘gossip girl’, things get to be so much cattier.

For those who have not yet watched the series, it’s not too late.  The first two episodes are currently hot iTunes downloads.  Once you get yourself caught up, you can find on Wednesdays @ 9pm on The CW.  I promise you—the backstabbing here is much more exciting than that / battle.  Plus - you’ll come to learn valuable fashion lessons.  Had I not watched last week, how would I have known that blue eyeshadow was back?

What About Brian We already reported not even two weeks ago that ABC was ordering four additional scripts of the sophomore drama, What About Brian—and now, the series has been picked up for the full season! Wow, that was fast. Must have been some quality scripts, huh? With Barry Watson (as Brian) leading a cast of interesting characters and storylines, it seemed a safe bet that this show would stick around for the rest of the season. While ratings are not stellar, they did get a bump from 6.3 million last season to 6.7 million this fall. With The Bachelor in the timeslot before it, What About Brian is able to hold on to 85 percent of the lead-in show’s audience. Adults 18-49, and in particular, women 18-34, are a strong part of the viewing audience.
