Earlier coverage of The Masters golf tournament (and its convenient overrun) lifted CBS to a victory on an otherwise slow Easter Sunday.
8pm
- 60 Minutes/The Amazing Race (3.0/9 in 18-49) combined for 11.8 million.
- A 2-hour Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (9.4 million, 2.9/8) pulled in another 2.3 million.
- An expanded Dateline (6.4 million, 1.6/5) did better than the recently-moved Kings.
- The Simpsons* (4.7 million, 2.2/7) dropped 1.7 million; King of the Hill* (2.0/6) turned in 4.2 million.
- CW’s airing of Cutthroat Island (0.3/1) registered 1.4 million.

Sunday Ratings: Theater Awards Don’t Translate to TV
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Animation, Award Shows, Comedy, Prime Time, Specials, Sports, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Everybody Hates Chris, Family Guy, Saturday Night Live, Ratings
Although Tony Awards telecasts have never been ratings goldmines, last night’s event had to compete with golf and basketball. Yesterday’s contest between the Celtics and the Lakers gave ABC another win in both the viewers and the demos.
8pm

- NBC‘s coverage of the U.S. Open (3.9/13 in-18-49) attracted 13.8 million golf fans.
- Jimmy Kimmel‘s special (8.2 million, 3.2/11) did 800,000 better than last Sunday; the NBA pre-game show (9.8 million, 4.0/12) grew by 1.9 million.
- Approximately 6.2 million theater lovers watched the 2008 Tony Awards (1.1/3).
- The Simpsons* (3.7 million, 1.8/6) was down by 400,000; King of the Hill* (3.6 million, 1.7/5) slipped by 300,000.
- Everybody Hates Chris* (1.1 million, 0.4/1) and Aliens in America* (1.1 million, 0.4/1) turned out similar numbers.

Reality Spotlight: The Big Break
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Sports, Cable, Gossip

If you know the Golf Channel only as the one you skip on your way up to Fox Sports, you’re missing a whole lot more than coverage of the PGA. You’re missing at least one great reality show that blends sports, drama and elimination action - all on the backdrop of some of the most beautiful locales in America.
You don’t have to like, or even understand, golf to enjoy The Big Break action. It’s the classic reality formula with a twist - strategy is often replaced by sportsmanship (or, lack thereof).
The prize generally includes a brand-new car, a shopping spree for the best in golf supplies and the most coveted honor of all - a spot on a single PGA or LPGA tour event. The Golf Channel gives competitors their Big Break, but all the rest is up to them.

Sunday Ratings: ABC Desperate for Viewers
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Animation, Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Desperate Housewives, Everybody Hates Chris, Family Guy, Ratings
Although it was the most-watched show overall, the return of Desperate Housewives got off to a slow start. CBS’ Masters overrun didn’t help matters either. In the end, the Alphabet network came away with both the viewers and the demos.
8pm

- Big Brother (10.7 million, 2.7/7 in 18-49) benefitted from the golf game.
- Oprah’s Big Give (8.9 million, 2.9/8) suffered a bit in its new time slot.
- The Simpsons (6.9 million, 3.3/9) and King of the Hill (6 million, 2.8/7) had nice gains from last week.
- Monk (5.2 million, 1.1/3) slipped by 500,000.
- Everybody Hates Chris (1.3 million, 0.5/1) and Aliens in America* (1.1 million, 0.4/1) both saw improvements.

Fore! Another Hit for the Golf Channel
Honestly, I didn’t know the channel existed. Even more, I didn’t know the Golf Channel is chock-full of reality shows, like The Big Break (currently celebrating several successful seasons). So it was with a dubious eye that I watched the brand-new Fore Inventors Only, a show hosted by Golf Channel alum Vince Cellini. For the past few weeks, each Tuesday at 10 pm I’ve found myself tuning in. First it was a little bit of a freak show – auditioning before a panel in an American Idol-esque set up, would-be inventors paraded their golfing devices in hopes of finding fame and acclaim. Some of these inventions were unwieldy, some silly, some totally nonsensical. But a few – okay, something like forty – made it through round one. And, before I knew what was happening, I was hooked. On a show that’s on the Golf Channel. Go figure.
