Now that American Idol 8 is underway, it’s time to catch up on some of our former contestants:
Taylor Hicks: The Season 5 winner is just over a month away from waking up the Soul Patrol. On March 10, Modern Whomp Records, Hicks’ own label, will offer up The Distance. The CD will drop just six weeks after “What is Right,” the album’s first digital release, is made available. Taylor Hicks, the 32-year-old’s last major-label offering, sold 703,000 after debuting in 2006.

This Week on TV (8/25-8/31)
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Drama, Games, Kids, Music, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Bravo, Cable, CBS, MTV, NBC, General Hospital

MONDAY (8/25)
- General Hospital (ABC, check local listings): Genie Francis wakes up from her catatonic state. Hurry up and ask her all your questions before she goes back under.
- High School Musical: Get in the Picture (ABC, 8pm): “The six finalists attempt to learn TV theme songs from the 1970s and ‘80s.” Should we really allow these teens to butcher classic songs from before they were born?
- Deal or No Deal (NBC, 8pm): Season 4 premiere. Could this be the day that someone wins the million? Pleez. Do you think they’d give it up that quickly?
- America’s Toughest Jobs (NBC, 9pm): Series premiere. “Average Joes perform dangerous and physically demanding jobs in this competition series. The winner is awarded the annual salary of each job completed.” Aren’t Average Joes the ones already performing these jobs?

MONDAY (8/18)
- I Want to Work for Diddy (VH1, 9pm): “Two members from each team must go to Paris and convince a model that Diddy saw in a magazine to come back to NYC with them and pose for Sean John.” If you want to flatter a girl, don’t send one assistant - send four.
- The Hills (MTV, 10pm): Season 4 premiere. I’m ashamed to say that I know what a ‘Lo’ is.
- Paranormal State (A&E, 10pm): “A family in Shrewsbury, Mass., claims to have been living with a spirit for 40 years, and all but one family member believe the spirit is malicious.” If they’ve managed to live with it for 40 years, how bad could this spirit possibly be?
- Date My Ex: Jo & Slade (Bravo, 10pm): “Juvenile tomfoolery back at he house irks Slade and may mean the expulsion of a suitor.” Had this been simply adult tomfoolery, things would have been fine.

MONDAY (8/11)
- Sesame Street (PBS, check local listings): Season 39 premiere. “One, two, three, four…chickens just back from the shore.”
- High School Musical: Get in the Picture (ABC, 8pm): “The contestants get a lesson on how to express emotions without using words.” Tip #1: If you need to cry, cut a hole in your pocket, take a pair of tweezers, and just start pulling. (Thanks, Joey Tribbiani.)
- The Closer (TNT, 9pm): “Provenza gets in hot water when he loses evidence from a successfully executed sting operation.” Somebody better buy the boss a box a chocolates asap.
- The Mole (ABC, 10pm): “The mole’s last victim and the Mole are revealed in the fifth-season finale after all 12 players reunite.” If a mole is revealed but nobody’s there to see it, will a show get whacked?

MONDAY (3/3)
- The Royal Family (ABC, 8pm): Barbara Walters hosts a special that documents a year in the lives of the British royal family. Wow - they’re letting people get to know them better? That’s such a Diana move.
- Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (FOX, 8pm): “In the two-hour finale, John and Derek are at odds over whether Cameron can be trusted.” Meanwhile, I’m still trying to figure out whether I’ll miss the show.
- Welcome to the Captain (CBS, 8:30): “Marty gets Josh an interview with the president of Paramount.” At least one of them will have a job when the show’s cancelled.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS, 9:30): “Matthew goes to therapy to discuss intimacy issues and learns he is too dependent on his sister.” Did anyone else shudder when they read that sentence?

MONDAY (2/25)
- A Raisin in the Sun (ABC, 8pm): Diddy and the rest of his Broadway cast bring the play to the small screen. I’m sorry - I believe his theater name is Sean Combs.
- The Moment of Truth (FOX, 8pm): Special night. Apparently this episode is so controversial, the producers debated airing it. Then they realized what network they were on and just went with it.
- Welcome to the Captain (CBS, 8:30): “Hope makes some new friends so she won’t be alone on Friday nights.” Their names? Jack and Daniels.
- Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious (CW, 9pm): “The women receive a surprise visit from JC Chasez.” They, too, are wondering why he doesn’t have anything better to do.

MONDAY (2/18)
- Prison Break (FOX, 8pm): Tonight may be the end of the show as we currently know it. Maybe Michael can finally let go of that steely gaze now.
- Dance War (ABC, 8pm): The next Dancing with the Stars contenders will be announced during the spinoff’s season finale. Finally, a reason for me to watch.
- Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious (CW, 9pm): Robin Antin is searching for a gal to complete an entirely different musical act. With Danity Kane already taken, she had to settle for the 2nd crappiest group name available.
- My Dad is Better Than Your Dad (NBC, 9pm): “This competition series features fathers and their children in challenges that test the patriarch’s strength, intelligence and parenting skills.” Since when did NBC start stealing ideas from Nick TV?

MONDAY (2/4)
- Welcome to the Captain (CBS, 8:30): Series premiere. “A Hollywood wunderkind in a career slump is persuaded by his friend to move into his famous Tinseltown apartment building with an eclectic group of tenants.” Eclectic = show gone soon.
- Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (FOX, 9pm): “John discovers the figure may be bleaker than he imagined.” I’m confused. If he’s currently in 2007, he should have already seen what the future looks like in Rise of the Machines.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS, 9:30): Season Three premiere. “Christine gets overly nervous about sleeping with Mr. Harris (Blair Underwood) for the first time.” I think I already saw this episode…..on Sex and the City.
- Late Night With David Letterman (CBS, 11:30): Hillary Clinton sits down with the talk show host. Any woman who can make us forget Paris Hilton deserves to be President.

MONDAY (1/28)
**Live coverage of the State of the Union Address (9 PM Eastern) will alter many schedules. Double-check your local listings for times.**
- Dance War (ABC, 8pm): “One contestant from the losing team is ousted after the first round of competition.” Those remaining will learn Bruno’s ‘I’m Still Standing’ routine.
- Gossip Girl (CW, 8pm): Pilot repeat. Late-comers can finally learn why Gossip is this season’s guiltiest pleasure. (And when I say ‘gossip’, I mean the show, of course.)
- In Treatment (HBO, 9:30: Series premiere. New therapy drama airs 5x a week with a different patient every night. Apparently Gabriel Byrne can’t handle them all at once like the masterful Dr. Drew.
- Making the Band 4 (MTV, 10pm): Diddy brings back all the winners and throws them together in one house. If they end up killing each other, he can finally start anew.
