Good Morning America Axes Adam Lambert Appearance

Despite the overwhelming split over whether or not Adam Lambert’s American Music Awards performance was too provocative for television, Good Morning America has canceled Lambert’s scheduled appearance for tomorrow.
“Given his controversial American Music Awards performance, we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning,” a network spokesperson said.
I can’t necessarily blame them, considering I was appalled to wake up in the morning to be greeted by a very sexed-up Fergie performance on the Today Show. At the same time, there are huge Calvin Klein billboards in New York City that feature a half naked Eva Mendes (and men, for that matter) 24 hours a day!
Either way, CBS jumped at the opportunity ABC threw away, quick to book Lambert for their Early Show tomorrow. I wonder what the sexual singer will have in store for his daytime fans…

VIDEO: Rihanna Talks About Chris Brown to Diane Sawyer
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: ABC, Gossip, Video,
Keep in mind—this clip is only a portion of what we will hear Rihanna say come Friday night.
On this morning’s Good Morning America, Diane Sawyer previewed the 21-year-old’s first television interview about her violent relationship with Chris Brown. In this 5-minute clip, the singer admits she was embarrassed about allowing herself to fall in love with that type of person.
“So far in love. So unconditional that I went back. It’s humiliating to say this happened. To accept that? It’s a traumatizing experience,” she said.

Jon Gosselin is spilling it all out for ABC. The interview event began with an episode of Good Morning America this morning and will continue on tomorrow. He will also be the focus of a Primetime: Family Secrets airing this evening at 10:00.
Originally taped on August 28, the interview alleges that Kate Gosselin was verbally abusive to her husband. “I was put down,” Jon said at one point.

Charles Gibson Leaving World News Tonight
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: News,
Just over three years after taking over the desk at World News Tonight, anchor Charles Gibson has decided to retire from full-time employment. The official announcement came today after several weeks of discussions with ABC News President David Westin.
Charles, who has been with the network for over three decades, found himself in our homes every night in May 2006 following Peter Jennings’ death, Bob Woodruff’s injury and Elizabeth Vargas’ pregnancy. The unexpected post delayed what would have originally been a 2007 leave.
Prior to his evening news gig, Gibson had worked on both Good Morning America and Primetime Thursday.

This Week on TV (12/1-12/7)
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Animation, Comedy, Drama, Music, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, Specials, ABC, Bravo, Cable, CBS, FOX, NBC, TNT-HD, Amazing Race, The, Desperate Housewives, ER, Grey’s Anatomy, Heroes,
(You can view TV Envy’s Master Programming Schedule here.)
MONDAY 12/1)- Shrek the Halls (ABC, 8pm): Hopefully this Mike Myers laugher will help us all forget The Love Guru.
- Inside the Actor’s Studio (Bravo, 8pm): “Daniel Radcliffe, star of the Harry Potter film franchise, charts his career journey.” I’m not sure I want to see James Lipton enthusiastically talking about Radcliffe’s nude Broadway performance.
- Heroes (NBC, 9pm): “Ando, Sam and Frack try to restore Hiro’s memory with a comic book.” Any person trying to follow this series should be given an instruction manual.
- Boston Legal (ABC, 10pm): “When Denny receives bad news about the state of his Alzheimer’s, Alan goes before the Massachusetts Supreme Court to plead for access to an experimental drug that can help his condition.” Alzheimers? Maybe Shatner simply forgot why George Takei dislikes him so.

What Happened to Paula Abdul’s Today Show Concert?
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music, ABC, NBC, American Idol, Gossip, News,
A while back it was announced that American Idol judge Paula Abdul would be participating on the Today show’s Summer Concert Series. Of course, given her inability to perform live for her Super Bowl pre-game performance, I was shocked to hear that she was ready to tackle a such a large task.
Well - surprise, surprise. I apparently wasn’t the only one to miss the news that her April 25 gig had been cancelled. (In fact, a current magazine I have sitting in front of me is still promoting the event.) A press release released a fews ago did not provide a reason for the change in plans:
“Paul Abdul is no longer part of Today‘s concert series at this time, however, she is always welcome at Today.”
I have to wonder—did the decision have anything to do with an actual performer’s engagement on a competing morning program? (Mariah Carey is scheduled for Good Morning America this Friday.)
Interestingly enough, a quick check of NBC’s website shows that Miss Abdul is now slated for August 29. Maybe she just needed the extra rehearsal time?

Young and the Restless Reigns Over Daytime TV
And I thought Today‘s dominance over Good Morning America was a long one.
At the end of this month, CBS’ Young and the Restless will celebrate a long 35 years on air. Although that milestone has been reached by several other daytime dramas, Y&R has achieved something not many can brag about: It’s been the #1 program for 1000 weeks in a row.
The long-running soap opera passed that amazing marker at the end of February. For those who would like to be spared the math - that means the serial has been tops for over 19 years. (Today has been whopping GMA‘s butt for only 12+ years.) The program first hit #1 back in December 1988. (For a historical reference, that was the same month Libyan terrorists blew up Pan Am Flight 103.)

Wayne Newton Will Be ‘Dancing With The Stars’
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Dancing With The Stars, Announcements,
The official list will be released in just a few days, but Entertainment Weekly is already reporting a contestant’s name for next season’s Dancing With the Stars. Vegas crooner Wayne Newton will be stepping out on the dance floor to win the hearts of ladies old enough to know who he is. (For those of you who need some help, he sang that ‘Danke Schoen’ song featured in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off).
Look for Apolo Ohno and Judge Carrie Ann Inaba to announce the entire list on August 29’s Good Morning America.

Nicole Richie To Do Televised Interview
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: ABC, Gossip, News,
Hoping to distract us from that other troubled star, Nicole Richie has finally agreed to do a sit-down interview with ABC’s Diane Sawyer.
Diane will of course be speaking to the waif about her August 16th court appearance. (Nicole, 25, is scheduled to face a DUI charge). It is also expected that Nicole will finally address the rumors of her pregnancy. My question is: Did she get knocked up on purpose thinking this will keep her from the slammer?
The segments will air next week on Good Morning America (Aug. 2nd, 3rd) and 20/20 (Aug. 3rd).
