In addition to being last night’s big ticket, yesterday’s meeting between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden was the most-watched VP debate in history. But when divvied up over 11 different outlets, the event technically came behind Survivor in the ratings. For that reason, CBS was a winner with the viewers while NBC was on top with the demos.
8pm
- Survivor: Gabon (12.8 million, 4.3/12 in 18-49) was on par with last week.
- Ugly Betty (8.6 million, 2.5/7) dropped 1.2 million.
- A My Name is Earl block (2.9/8) averaged 7 million.
- Smallville (4 million, 1.6/4) was down a notch.
- Hole in the Wall (3.5 million, 1.5/4) did 700,000 less than Kitchen Nightmares.

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Games, Music, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, Specials, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Ratings,
Seems the novelty may have already worn off. Last week, 90210 was breaking records for CW. This week, the drama was back to being a regular old pumpkin. Meanwhile, the 90-minute premiere of Fringe got off to a nice start helping FOX nab a win in the demos. (NBC and America’s Got Talent were the victors with the viewers.)
8pm

- Approximately 9 million watched the debut of Fringe (3.2/9).

Hole in the Wall Preview
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Games, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, Video,
Were you one of the millions entertained this summer by Wipeout‘s Big Balls? Well, then this might be the show for you.
Next month, FOX will introduce Hole in the Wall, its contribution to the reality humiliation genre. Although the program’s concept could tire quickly (like The Moment of Truth‘s), it’s appears to be a fun counterprogramming option for those in need of a mindless chuckle.
Hole in the Wall has special previews on September 7th and 9th. It will then regularly air @ 8pm on Thursdays starting September 11.

TV’s Turning Japanese!
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Games, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Cable, FOX, Gossip,
I think we’re turning Japanese. Flip your TV to ABC and you’ll see weird costumes and almost unbelievable stunts on Wipeout and I Survived a Japanese Game Show, two series based on popular Japanese game shows. FOX plans to release a similar show, their version of Japan’s Hole in the Wall, this coming fall.
What do these shows bring to the U.S. gaming table? In two words, shock value. Anyone who has viewed the You Tube clips can see that Japanese games are daring, daunting…and at times very, very bizarre. Hole, for instance, makes competitors face off against solid walls with strangely-shaped openings offering the only survival. And if they fail? They fall into water, and lose the game. Many Japanese game shows require extreme physical exertion, along with an element of the oddly and brutally funny, in equal measure. If you laugh when you see someone fall down and possibly hurt themselves, for instance, Japanese game shows are probably your bag.
