Meet the Browns Retooled for Television

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, Cable, News

Meet the Browns poster has just hit the trifecta.

, the 2008 movie that originated as a play, is now being reworked as a series for TBS.

In the comedy, David Mann and Tamela J. Mann (a real-life couple) will both reprise the characters they played on the big-screen. Although the spinoff’s concept is still be worked out, the show will revolve around a number of residents in a boarding house. The old home was something that was inherited by David (Leroy Brown) from his father.

This isn’t the first time the writer/producer/director/actor has worked on something for the small screen. In 2006, TBS ordered 10 episodes of for its network. When the show proved successful, another 90-episode order was made. This is the strategy that will once again be implemented for Browns. If things go well with the program’s run in January, another 90 could start airing as soon as next summer.

In the meantime, Perry’s next project, The Family That Preys, will hit theaters on September 12.
