So You Think You Can Dance Suffers Illness and Injury

We may still be hours away from the start of So You Think You Can Dance‘s Top 20 competition, but there’s already been a change in the lineup.
Despite postponing Juilliard to appear on the show (and making Adam Shankman cry during the audition phase), contemporary dancer Billy Bell will be off the program altogether. Although the 19-year-old was seen during last night’s pre-taped showcase, an illness has forced him to end his run. He will be replaced tonight by 21-year-old Brandon Dumlao, a hip-hop dancer from California.
According to statement from Bell’s family, continuing with the competition could have meant grave consequences. “We were all very disappointed when we heard the news and Billy was devastated when his doctors told the show that if he continued to dance on the show before he recovered, he could possibly die,” it read. While a specific diagnosis was not mentioned, Us Weekly reports Billy is being treated for mononucleosis.

DWTS’ Melissa Rycroft Gets Another Chance
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Dancing With The Stars, Gossip
Once again, Dancing with the Stars fans proved they love to see a comeback story. But will their votes have been in vain?
Even though a rib injury kept her from performing on Monday, Melissa Rycroft’s supporters rallied to keep her around for another week. This despite no guarantees that she will even be able to dance again.
During last night’s results show, Melissa updated the audience on the status of her hairline fracture. “We’ve started new treatment and we’re kind of optimistic that it will be effective,” she explained.
Since the former Bachelor star was spared elimination, the ax had to come down on another couple. Although they went into the evening with 5 more points than Rycroft and Tony Dovolani, Chuck Wicks and Julianne Hough were the ones sent home. But is there a possibility that they could return?
Should Melissa discover that she can’t continue as previously hoped, would the producers bring back the last pairing? Or would that all depend on the timing of her decision? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Injured Melissa Rycroft Sidelined on Dancing with the Stars
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Dancing With The Stars

Could there be another bad ending in Melissa Rycroft’s reality show run?
Although it seemed like we had finally gotten past the Dancing with Stars curse, Jason Mesnick’s ex was absent from tonight’s taping. It was revealed that a rib injury suffered last week was actually a hairline fracture.
Despite Melissa’s efforts to perform this week, it became painfully clear after rehearsals that she couldn’t go on. Assuming she’s able to return to the competition (it’s currently believed she will), the judges went ahead and scored her pre-taped jive. (That was what they also did in the Steve-O back injury situation.) Unfortunately, the dry run with Tony Dovolani offered little substance and only earned a 21.
We should expect an update on Rycroft’s status on tomorrow’s results show.

DWTS’ Steve Wozniak Injured Again
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Dancing With The Stars
Steve Wozniak’s problems have just moved up his leg.
According to E! Online, the Apple co-founder is now dealing with more than just a foot fracture. Earlier this weekend, Wozniak pulled a hamstring during rehearsals.
Although host Tom Bergeron says Steve is “determined to be there on Monday and dance,” one source claims the injured celebrity has been “limping pretty badly.”
So what would this mean for Karina Smirnoff should her partner be permanently sidelined? “The only thing it will impact is if there is one week we were going to have a double elimination and we wouldn’t do that. But we’d still eliminate someone. So if [he] can’t dance this week, we’re still going to knock somebody else out anyway because that’s the way we roll,” Bergeron explained.

UPDATE: Jewel and Nancy are both leaving the show.
Although the premiere of Dancing with the Stars 8 is still days away, the backstage drama just keeps on coming:
Holly Madison: Let me guess. You’re probably asking yourself right now, “What does Hugh Hefner’s ex have anything to do with DWTS?” Well, according to Us Weekly, there may be more to this Girl Next Door.
An inside source tells the magazine that Madison will be part of next Monday’s premiere. Unless something changes within the next few days, it’s believed the Playboy Playmate will be there to replace an injured Jewel. (The singer is suffering from tendonitis in her knees.)

Desperate Housewives Star Critically Injured
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Desperate Housewives, News
UPDATE: Harold’s condition is now improving.
A motorcycle crash earlier this week has left a Desperate Housewives star in critical condition.
Gale Harold, who currently plays Teri Hatcher‘s younger boyfriend, was hospitalized yesterday after a wreck on his motorcycle. The former Queer as Folk star - the only person hurt in the incident - was due to be on the ABC set Tuesday.
Despite earlier reports of a shoulder injury, multiple sources claim Harold is being treated for a head injury as well. Fortunately, the 38-year-old is supposedly expected to recover despite swelling on the brain.
While it’s unclear how long Gale will remain in USC Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit, his absence should not affect production on the show. Although Jackson Braddock was involved in a pivotal November sweeps storyline, producer Marc Cherry seems confident that adjustments could be made.

Brooke Burke Confirms Misty May-Treanor’s Exit
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Dancing With The Stars, Gossip, News
Although we still haven’t heard official word from the producers, competitor Brooke Burke has confirmed Misty May-Treanor’s Dancing with the Stars exit.
Over this weekend, it was revealed the Olympic beach volleyball player had suffered some sort of injury. Despite reports that Misty would be needing surgery, the showrunners listed her status as To Be Determined. Now it appears the rumors were true.
Earlier this morning, Burke told an LA radio station that the gold medalist was indeed sidelined. “It’s such a sad situation. She did hurt her Achilles tendon. I don’t know if she tore it or ruptured it.”
Unfortunately, the athlete - who apparently heard a “pop” at the time of the injury - was simultaneously competing on the sand while she was competing on the dance floor. “The sad thing…this is her jumping mechanism. We’re all really concerned for her. She may be having surgery this week. We don’t know yet. It’s such a bummer,” Brooke added.
It’s unclear at this point what May-Treanor’s departure will mean for Tuesday’s elimination show. Expect to get a full report on tonight’s broadcast.

UPDATE: You can find new information on May-Treanor’s status here.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy‘s return to the ballroom has just been cut short.
According to Access Hollywood, Olympic volleyball player Misty May-Treanor has officially been sidelined from the Dancing with the Stars. The athlete apparently suffered an injury that will require surgery.
It’s unclear at this point whether the injury was a result of something she did on the dance floor or the volleyball court. The gold medalist had been simultaneously competing on the AVP volleyball tour while rehearsing for the reality show.
