The 60th Primetime Emmy Awards
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Cable, FX, HBO, Entourage, Editorial, Features,
Even though the previous television season was marred by the annoying writers’ strike, I find myself really excited for the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards. Not only will this ceremony give us a chance to start anew, it’ll be the academy’s chance to celebrate what’s new.
Tonight, two basic cable shows (Damages, Mad Men) will get a chance to win for Outstanding Drama Series. (That would be an Emmy first.) Meanwhile, nominees in several categories will have an opportunity to compete in a Sopranos-less environment. An added bonus? A new category. This year, reality show hosts will finally be acknowledged for their programming contributions as well.
So who won? Who lost? Who ran up and grabbed the award even though they didn’t win? Read our West Coast play-by-play account of this evening’s telecast and find out!

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Cable, CBS, FX, FOX, HBO, NBC, Showtime, TNT-HD, Entourage, Grey’s Anatomy, House, Lost, Saturday Night Live, The Office, News,
Bright and early this morning, Kristin Chenoweth and Neil Patrick Harris announced the nominations for the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards.
This year, we saw many first-timers named, a long list of cable acknowledgements (for pay and basic channels) and several 6-way races.
Topping the noms for drama programs was newcomer Mad Men; NBC’s 30 Rock lead all comedy programs. In total, HBO was the most-nominated network while ABC came in second.
This year’s ceremony will be held on Sept. 21 on ABC.

Christina Applegate Returns to TV
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, ABC,
I love Christina Applegate, what can I say? She’s a guilty pleasure of mine and I’ll watch just about anything that she’s in. She’s making her return to TV in a comedy, playing a woman who comes out of a coma and has amnesia. Hmmm, doesn’t sound particularly like a comedy—I’m thinking more like a Lifetime movie. The show, called Sam I Am will also star Jean Smart as Applegate’s mom. Smart is a good choice as well, and I have to say this woman just gets better with age. Jennifer Esposito was previously cast as Applegate’s buddy. Applegate, I’m sure you recall, is famous for her role as Kelly Bundy on Married… With Children. She did return to television for the series Jesse, but it didn’t hang around for long, and also guest-starred on Friends. Her role on Friends won her an Emmy. At any rate, anything with Christina Applegate is worth a look.
