Survivor: China: “Ready to Bite the Apple”

After Frosti’s elimination at the last Tribal Council, Jeff made a surprise announcement to the seven remaining survivors: they still had other business to attend to. Before heading back to camp, they had to participate in a reward challenge right then and there. The prize for this event would be one like no other. The winner (and two friends) would travel by private jet to the Shaolin Temple. The monastery – around since the 5th century – is most famous for being the home of kung-fu. It’s a place where very few outsiders have been invited to stay, and for some reason, 3 stinky contestants from America would get a chance now.
For the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, the players had to answer a series of questions based on Chinese culture. The first one to reach 5 points would get the prize. After a very close battle between James, Peih-gee and Todd, Peih-gee came out victorious; this was now her 2nd challenge win a row. She opted to take her Zhan Hu buddy (Erik) and the possible swing vote (Denise) with her.

It was Day 25 at Hae Da Fung and James was feeling slightly burned by the previous night’s elimination. It didn’t make him feel good to see his name written down three times. From this point on, he was going to make sure he always had his immunity idols with him at Tribal Council. But would he actually know when to use them?
Courtney started off the morning by celebrating. With Jean-Robert gone, it was like Christmas in China to the skinny waitress. Unfortunately, Denise’s evil daggers interrupted Courtney and Amanda’s joyous moods. Unaware that her former Fei Long ‘friends’ had changed their elimination target, she went with the original plan and voted for Peih-gee. Now the school lunch lady was feeling just as blindsided as Jean-Robert. Did she make a mistake not aligning with the former Zhan Hu members? Hoping to secure her loyalty, James lied to Denise about the voting changes. He claimed it was always their intention to tell her; someone just simply forgot to relay the message. Although she was unsure whether James should be believed, she knew it would be smart to stick with the man who possessed all the idols.

Although he had managed to avoid another elimination, Jean-Robert was quite shaken up by the surprise turn of events. Had Jaime possessed a real Immunity Idol, he would have just attended his last Tribal Council. Sadly, the man still didn’t have a clue his exit could be coming someday soon.
Meanwhile, Amanda was growing concerned about James’ position in the game. He was always a physical threat; now he was equipped with both Immunity Idols. Would it even be possible for them to take him down now? Uhh – did anyone think about asking him to give the unused idol back?

Blindsided by Courtney and Sherea at Tribal Council, Jean-Robert was feeling a bit vulnerable back at Fei Long. He supposedly had ‘no clue’ that there was so much tension at camp. Hoping to smooth things over, Todd and Amanda assured him that Courtney’s feelings were hers and hers alone. Todd said he really liked the hard-working man Jean-Robert had become. Of course, hearing anyone make nice with Jean-Robert made Courtney feel sick. It was especially hard to hear Todd and Amanda—the two people who claimed to be her friends—sound so supportive of her enemy.
Meanwhile at Zhan Hu, another level of butt-kissing was going on. Despite originally planning to eliminate him, Peih-gee tried convincing James he was now part of the team. She really wanted him to trust them. After all, they did basically sacrifice one of their own people for him. Believing their conversation ended well, Peih-gee left James to join Jaime and Erik by the water. While they were busy conferring, James immediately started working on securing his second hidden immunity idol. Unfortunately, it took him two tries because the first symbol he knocked down was actually blank on back. Although he managed to quickly remove the correct idol without being detected, he didn’t have time to retrieve the blank one that had fallen to the ground.

Despite learning his new Zhan Hu teammates were plotting to get rid of him, James continued doing his menial chores at camp. He figured all he could do until the next Tribal Council was make the best out of the situation at hand.
At Fei Long, Todd made a strategic move and revealed to Amanda everything he knew about a hidden Immunity Idol at camp. He originally wasn’t planning on telling her until after he had secured its location, but he needed her help finding it. He hoped that by winning the next Reward Challenge, they could get another clue about the idol’s whereabouts. Assuming they would be temporarily kidnapping someone again from the opposing team, they made a plan to choose James. They were certain their former Fei Long member would give them the extra scroll needed to finally take control of the game.

With boss man Dave now voted off, the remaining members of Zhan Hu were able to enjoy a leisurely day of rest. (In other words, they all pulled a Sherea.) But despite the lack of conflict around camp, Frosti was feeling a bit uneasy. Tired of losing, the student athlete was eager for something different. Meanwhile, a flirtation between Jaime and Erik started to blossom. After a whopping 13 days together, they hadn’t yet pinpointed each other’s faults. Believing she could trust Erik (he did, after all, ‘fess up to being a virgin), Jaime decided to share her knowledge about a hidden immunity idol.
At Fei Long, James and Denise continued their hard work around camp. The unusual pair had formed a strong bond and respect during their time together. Later, the tribe welcomed a surprise guest: a fisherman with a game-changing message. The group was instructed to choose two Zhan Hu warriors who could best benefit their team. Once selected, the competitors would be brought to their camp. Fei Long was apprehensive about making a choice because they realized what this would mean: two of their tribal members would soon be gone. Of course, Zhan Hu would take James—but who else would they snag? Hoping to steal their strongest options, Fei Long picked Frosti and Sherea.

Although Jean-Robert was narrowly sent home at the last Tribal Council, he felt confident about his future in Fei Long. His ‘Start Lazy Then Improve’ strategy was going according to plan; his tribe members were starting to acknowledge his recent contributions around camp.
At Zhan Hu, Frosti made a moldy discovery about their valuable rice. Hoping to salvage what they could, Sherea attempted to separate the contaminated portions. Of course, her chosen method didn’t please Dave—and he made sure to tell her so. Fed up with his bossiness, Sherea blew him off. Later, Sherea starting disposing empty shells much to Dave dismay. When he realized what she was doing, he begged her to stop (he wanted to take some home to his mother). Unfortunately, Sherea really wasn’t interested in anything he had to say at that point. When Dave tried to approach her, she became extremely testy and told him to back off.

Having just won another Immunity Challenge, Fei Long got to rest comfortably at home. Unfortunately, Jean-Robert’s snoring and touchy-feely ways made it an uneasy night for any woman positioned next to him. As Leslie put it, Jean-Robert simply didn’t understand ‘the social game of Survivor’.
At Zhan Hu, Peih-gee was urging worker bee Dave to settle down and rest. She was worried he’d overexert himself and wind up useless in yet another challenge. He, of course, brushed her off and insisted he was fine. Later, when the other tribe members made a question about the fire pit, Dave quickly interrupted his nap to fix the situation himself. Despite having recently been on the chopping block, he continued to play the annoying martyr.

Zhan Hu returned to their camp down a Chicken but up a (self-established) leader. Dave denied wanting the leadership position, but claimed he only stepped up because no one else at Tribal Council would. (Well, Peih-gee did enthusiastically volunteer…you were just ignoring her.) Unfortunately, having someone finally in charge didn’t really improve the situation at their wet, miserable camp. Dave insisted he didn’t want to ‘belabor’ their work, but spent too much time arguing with certain members over strategy or condescending others over implementation.
At Fei Long, things looked considerably drier and much quieter—that’s if you were able to ignore Jean-Robert’s incessant snoring. Awake later a strategy session, Jean-Robert piped up and said his team should ‘rest more’. When Aaron confronted him about his laziness, Jean-Robert assured his team he was valuable because the wheels were continuously ‘churning in his head’. (Jean-Robert later revealed in private that this was his ‘You Can Only Go Up From Here’ poker strategy. He wanted them to think he was lazy—that way he could impress them once he did choose to contribute.) Huh?? Meanwhile, Todd and Amanda formed the first red team alliance. To make themselves less vulnerable, they wooed Aaron into their group with those two enticing words: ‘Final 3’. Todd and Amanda were hoping someone more vocal would take the fall should they come under attack later.

Survivor: China: ‘A Chicken’s A Little Bit Smarter’
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Survivor
Already in its 15th season, the producers of Survivor continue to prove they will never lack locations to exploit. This time around they stepped back in time and journeyed to one of the oldest countries of the world: China.
The 16 contestants traveled by train from Shanghai to a 16th century Buddhist monastery where the ever-youthful Jeff Probst was waiting for them. (I don’t know why they call Ryan Seacrest today’s version of Dick Clark; I really think Probst could give him a run for his money). Upon arriving, the competitors were informed they’d be participating in a Buddhist ceremony. Although Jeff assured them this was not a religious ceremony (just a way for the the natives to ‘welcome’ the new guests), Leslie (the Christian radio talk show host) felt extremely uncomfortable and walked out before it was even over.
