Kiefer Sutherland Expresses Regret for Head-Butting Incident

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories:

A regretful Kiefer Sutherland took a giant step toward clearing his name yesterday.

During an appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s late-night program, the 24 actor briefly addressed the head-butting incident that occurred back on May 5. Although he wasn’t able to elaborate on the circumstances, Sutherland seemed sincerely ashamed for his actions.

“Now last time I saw you, we went out to dinner and then, uh, something…what happened?” Fallon asked. “I just want to know, how close was I from being on the receiving end?”

Kiefer Sutherland

The ladies might have stolen the Met Costume Institute Gala’s spotlight, but it was who made fashion world news last night.

The 24 star was at an after-party for the annual event when he allegedly saw Jack McCollough, a Proenza Schouler designer, knock over Brooke Shields. Although the actress later denied that anything “inappropriate” happened to her, a confrontation between Jack and Kiefer eventually led to a Sutherland head-butt.

Kiefer Sutherland Will Return for Another Season of 24

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Action, Drama, Prime Time, FOX, 24, Renewals

Kiefer SutherlandBack in September, Day 7 of 24 appeared to be on shaky ground. Now cast and crew are already preparing for Day 8.

During his promotional tour for Monsters vs. Aliens, told the AP that he intends on being around for his show’s next chapter. “If I was going to liken 24 to a girlfriend, 24 has been really good to me. And I need to be really good back,” he explained.

Although he is itching to try other things, the 42-year-old apparently realizes he is lucky to be employed. “There are plays I want to do. There are so many different things I would like to do, but I was so fortunate to be part of something like that my focus is still on that right now,” he said.

So how much longer can we expect to see Jack Bauer fighting for our country? That will depend on how many scenarios the creative team can cook up. “The real pressure is placed on the writers. It’s a real question about how much they feel they can give and what they can do,” Sutherland said.

Filming on Season 8 will begin this May.

2009 Screen Actors Guild Awards

Screen Actors Guild Awards

Last January, the Screen Actors Guild Awards was considered a pleasant distraction from all the writers’ strike business. Since the actors now face their own work stoppage, this year’s event once again served as a nice diversion.

With the Academy Awards less than a month away, tonight’s ceremony gave us a better idea of how that broadcast might pan out. Was Kate Winslet another double-winner this evening? Did Mickey Rourke wrestle an additional victory? Is Heath Ledger on his way to that posthumous Oscar? Get all the details after the jump!

Mad Men

Even though SAG members are currently debating whether to strike, today’s award nominations gave them all a brief distraction. If the upcoming Oscars telecast doesn’t go on as planned, next month’s Screen Actors Guild Awards (scheduled for January 25th on TNT and TBS) could be the last time actors have a reason to celebrate.

Here are some of the noteworthy mentions from this year’s list of television nominees:

  • 30 Rock, Boston Legal, The Closer, John Adams and Mad Men all scored three noms each.
  • Dexter is up for its first win in the Outstanding Drama Series Ensemble category.
  • Desperate Housewives - a nominee for Best Ensemble - received no individual honors.
  • Debra Messing (The Starter Wife), Kevin Connolly (Entourage), January Jones (Mad Men), Anna Paquin (True Blood) and Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) all received Golden Globe nominations, but no SAG noms.

True Blood

Although the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was forced to cancel last year’s party, the Golden Globes will finally make its return next month. The 66th annual event is scheduled to air Sunday, January 11th, just over a week before the Academy Award nominations are announced.

Here are some of the noteworthy mentions from this year’s list of TV nominees:

  • HBO, with its 22 nominations, once again led the pack.
  • In Treatment and Recount, both from HBO, had five nominations each - the highest number for any program this year.
  • House is the only non-cable program to be up for Best Drama.
  • True Blood is the only new series to receive any nods.
  • Kiefer Sutherland and 24 received nominations for the show’s 2-hour special.
