On TV Envy: The Oprah Winfrey Show to End in 2011

Donal Logue is Back!

Donal Logue Despite the cancellation of The Knights of Prosperity, Donal Logue is not out of a job. Quite the contrary, as Fox just announced that Logue will next be seen in the comedy Hackett.  I’ve been a fan of Logue’s since I saw him in a little independent film called The Tao of Steve and was thrilled when he came to TV in Grounded for Life... only, I didn’t end up liking Grounded too much because it never really “clicked” with me. Knights of Prosperity grabbed my interest, but the premise quickly dwindled. I haven’t given up on Logue though and I’m glad to see him returning to television after the failed Knights. The comedy co-stars Rachel Boston and Morgan Murphy, with Logue playing a “bad-boy literary luminary” who leaves his Yale teaching career and ends up teaching at a public school in Ohio. Barry Sonnenfeld is set to direct.

Knights of Prosperity Pulled from Lineup

Donal Logue I tried to like this show, I really did. I like Donal Logue, but there just wasn’t enough going for this show to keep me sticking around. Seems a lot of viewers felt the same way because ABC is pulling the plug on The Knights of Prosperity. I don’t think that it was really ever in the cards, with the tough competition against American Idol, but I imagined that In Case of Emergency would get the boot before Knights. It’s questionable when the three remaining episodes of the comedy will even air. A repeat of According to Jim will fill the void Wednesday, with George Lopez reruns taking over the slot for the remaining two weeks. ‘Tis the kiss of death, although ABC refers to the unaired episodes as “not yet rescheduled.” The freshman mid-season entry averaged a little over 5.03 million viewers over the eight episodes that aired.

ABC Moves ‘Knights of Prosperity’

Donal Logue ABC must have some faith in the new comedy The Knights of Prosperity—they’ve decided to move the new show to a time frame that isn’t against American Idol. I’m not so sure the show is worth saving, but compared to In Case of Emergency, which Knights has been paired with, seems they are making the better choice about which to move. If you haven’t seen it, Knights features Donal Logue and a team of rag-tag thieves as they try to rob Mick Jagger. The first episode showed potential, but it seemed to take a slide in subsequent episodes. Ratings for the first two shows were at 6.2 million, but the last two episodes only drew in 4 million viewers. In Case of Emergency will stay on in the Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. slot, where I’m sure it will certainly face its eventual death. The Knights of Prosperity will now be seen at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, following George Lopez. According to Jim will take on American Idol at 9 p.m. Once American Idol cuts back to a one hour show in a few more weeks, Emergency may gain some steam, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.

Lost Moves to New Time

Lost Bad news for those of us who have an early bedtime. Starting in February, when Lost returns, it will be moving from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The move could potentially assist ABC with the difficulty it has had finding a show that retains a significant audience with Lost as the lead-in. By moving Lost to 10 p.m., the network can lead with a block of comedy and increase viewership with the 10:00 slot. Beginning on January 3rd, According to Jim will air at 8:00 and 8:30 p.m., followed by two new series, The Knights of Prosperity and In Case of Emergency. On January 24th, the night will lead with George Lopez, then According to Jim, Knights, and Emergency. The move also takes Lost out of competition with American Idol (which begins January 17th) and Criminal Minds (that just won the post-Super Bowl airing). It will be interesting to see how the comedy block ABC has lined up will fare against the tough competition. Lost returns on February 7th.
