Things aren’t looking good over at NBC. Heroes and Chuck both premiered with declines—and have now continued their seasons with declines. This lack of competition helped ABC with the viewers and CBS with another win in the demos.
8pm
- Dancing with the Stars (18.8 million, 4.3/11 in 18-49) was in step with last week.
- The Big Bang Theory (9.3 million, 3.7/10) picked up 600,000; How I Met Your Mother added on 200,000 more.
- Chuck (5.9 million, 2.3/6) slid by 700,000.
- Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (5.6 million, 2.3/6) improved by 200,000.
- A Gossip Girl* repeat (0.8/2) pulled in 1.8 million.

Last Friday, number crunchers had their eyes on two events: the debut of The Ex List and the departure of Friday Night Smackdown. Unfortunately for CBS and CW, the news wasn’t good. Despite CBS’ win in both the demos and viewers, Moonlight started and ended better than Ex‘s premiere. Meanwhile, CW’s comedic lineup only did 1/2 as well as the network’s old wrestling staple.
8pm
- Ghost Whisperer (9.3 million. 2.4/6 in 18-49) rounded up 7% more than last year.
- Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (5.8 million, 1.3/5) added on 700,000.
- Wife Swap’s new time slot only drew in 3.8 million (1.3/5).
- America’s Toughest Jobs (3.4 million, 1.0/3) lost 1.2 million.
- Everybody Hates Chris (2.1 million, 0.8/3) and The Game (1.9 million, 0.8/3) were down over 2 million from last week’s Smackdown.

MONDAY (9/29)
- Chuck (NBC, 8pm): Season 2 premiere. “Chuck mixes it up with a formidable operative (Michael Clarke Duncan) out to obtain a device that would potentially give rise to a new Intersect.” Thankfully, he knows a girl from Wienerlicious who can take the big guy down.
- Heroes (NBC, 9pm): “Peter looks to the past to stop the future.” Is going back to Season Two an option?
- 100 Greatest Hip Hop Songs (VH1, 9pm): “A five-part countdown of the Top 100 hip hop songs.” Because when I think hip hop, I think VH1.
- Life (NBC, 10pm): Season 2 premiere. “Crews and Reese track a serial killer who’s placing victims in numbered trunks around the city.” Ooh—I love scavenger hunts!

With the writers’ strike officially over, it’s now time for us to start anew. Let’s try to forget the repeats we’ve had to endure and focus on something else: the new Fall TV schedule!
There are many questions we all need to get answered. When will your favorite shows start? What days are they now on? Which DVR programming ‘conflicts’ will you have to resolve? Will you need to buy another television???
Hopefully our detailed guide can assist you in the weeks to come. We have compiled information from the five major networks and included the days, times and premiere dates for this season’s programs.
(NOTE: This schedule has been updated as of October 9. Don’t be surprised to see changes in the weeks to come.)

Last week, NBC’s programming chief got a jump start on the competition by revealing his company’s calendar for next year. In addition to the fall lineup, the programming schedule through Summer 2009 was revealed.
Of all the interesting notes, I actually found it quite refreshing to hear that the network will be working to keep the 8 o’clock time slot a “family hour”. (In other words, they’ll put the most family friendly things they have - whether they really should be watched by children or not - during that portion of the evening.) After the kids are put to bed, NBC will then kick things up a notch with an hour of “blockbuster” programming then sixty minutes of adult-themed content.

End of the Road for NBC’s ‘Journeyman’

Thirteen is not only an unlucky number, it’s the only number Journeyman is going to get.
Unlike other freshman dramas (e.g. Chuck, Life), Journeyman will not get a full-season order. NBC had until yesterday to express its intentions with the program. Unfortunately, the studio chose not to waste more money on the ratings-challenged series. (Just this Monday, the show scored almost 1 million less viewers than Life did in the same time slot last week.)
The drama, starring Kevin McKidd (Rome), completed 13 episodes before production ended. Unlike ABC’s questionable move with Big Shots, NBC does intend to air Journeyman’s final two hours.

- How I Met Your Mother* (2.2/6) rounded up 6.59 million; The Big Bang Theory* (2.5/6) saw 6.77 million.
- Everybody Hates Chris (1.89 million, 0.8/2) and Aliens in America* (1.59 million, 0.7/2) were both down from last week.

- The Heroes ender (11.1 million, 5.0/11) had the night’s best demos.
- Without DWTS, Samantha Who? (2.9/6) dropped 40% to 7.53 million. Notes from the Underbelly (5.5 million, 2.3/5) lost 33%.
