Apparently Project Runway won’t be the only reason why Lifetime generates news this year.
This Sunday’s premiere of Army Wives drew in 4.5 million viewers. That’s the largest number the cable channel has seen for any of its original dramas in its 24-year history. The second season opener also saw a 67% increase in females aged 18-49.

Project Runway Goes LA

Apparently supermodels really like a good change.
First, Tyra Banks decided to move her daytime talk fest from Los Angeles to New York. Now, Heidi Klum is scheduled to do the exact opposite. Though in the latter case, the switch will not be permanent.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Project Runway’s sixth outing will be split between NYC and LA. This city-hopping move will apparently accommodate Klum’s personal and work schedules much better (but make everyone else’s a living hell). The following year, things will return back to normal in New York.
As for the reality hit’s fifth season - the last one on Bravo - that too will still be set in the Big Apple. That installment can be seen starting this July.

Ever wish you could know more about the designer’s models on Project Runway? Lifetime thinks you do. USA Today reports that Lifetime is planning to pair its newly acquired Project Runway with a half-hour spin-off called Models of the Runway which will focus on them as people, not just living clothes hangers. (The model paired up with the winning designer on Project Runway also wins a modeling contract and a spread in Elle magazine.)
Project Runway is expected to move over to the top-rated women’s cable network, Lifetime, in November. Bravo will air its fifth and probably final Project Runway season in July, though the move is being contested in court by Bravo parent company NBC. Project Runway has been Bravo’s top hit.

Just last week, we reported that Project Runway was making a big move from its old home at Bravo to Lifetime. This week, we’re learning that one of the show’s judges may be out of a job. At least the one she does off-camera.
Women’s Wear Daily has reported that Nina Garcia, “fashion director at Elle”, is no longer working for the magazine her name’s been associated with. This move comes not-so-coincidentally after a new creative director was brought on board.
What this currently means for Garcia’s future with the hit reality show is unknown. Neither she or Michael Kors have yet committed to the series’ next installment.
Be looking for Project Runway‘s fifth season to hit the catwalk this November summer.

Project Runway Producers Sued
Yesterday’s news was that Bravo’s hit series Project Runway (the most successful for the channel) will move to Lifetime in a new, five-year contract. Today, the fashion has really hit the fan.
Bravo is owned by NBC Universal, who has subsequently filed a lawsuit against the Weinstein Co. (which produces Runway) to prevent the switch. Citing breach of contract, the network filed suit with the New York Supreme Court. According to the suit, NBC Universal and Weinstein were in previous negotiations regarding future seasons of the show.

Project Runway Leaves Bravo

I guess we won’t be tuning into Bravo to ‘watch what happens’ on Project Runway anymore.
While everyone has been busy wondering whether Scrubs would jump ship to ABC, another big deal was being brokered over in cable-land. Come this fall, we will have to program in a new channel on our DVRs: the Lifetime channel.
In a surprise move, The Weinstein Co. has made a five-year deal with the female-oriented network to start airing the hit reality show come this November. Needless to say, NBC (Bravo’s parent company) is not pleased with this decision. The company has filed suit in a desperate attempt to keep their ratings cash cow in place.
The program about fashion designers - hosted by Heidi Klum - will be heading into its sixth season at the end of this year.

Thanks to the cancelation of the Golden Globes ceremony, the hottest ticket in town was tonight’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. Without a picket line to cross, celebrities from TV and Film were allowed to celebrate - and commiserate - together for the first time in a long while.
For star-deprived fans, the SAG red carpet was also a treat for sore eyes. What were our favorite actresses wearing? What were the latest trends? Which dresses were going to be copied by Allen Schwartz tomorrow?
Unfortunately, the evening was not all about partying. The recent deaths of Suzanne Pleshette and Heath Ledger cast a somber tone on what would normally be a festive occasion. Thankfully, tonight was not about dissecting their lives, but merely about honoring them.
Meanwhile, the neglected winners of this month’s Globes were also hoping to get a share of the honors. If they were able to pull off another victory tonight, maybe they would have a chance to give the speech they already had written.
Well, without further ado, here’s the play-by-play of tonight’s events coming to you from the fashionably late West Coast!
