90210 - Lori Loughlin, Ryan Eggold

"I have enjoyed the past few years working on 90210 and adore all of the cast and crew, as well as the team at the CW and CBS TV Studios. I am grateful for having had the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful show." This statement was released by 90210’s most recently ousted cast member Lori Loughlin, who has been with the show since the series premiere.

And she's not the only casualty. High school teacher Ryan Matthews (played by Ryan Eggold) is also out of the picture, though he's sort of loosely related to Naomi Clarke (AnnaLynne McCord) now.

Jennie Garth and Rob Estes

Now they know how Jim and Cindy Walsh felt.

Two of the ‘s “oldest” actors - Rob Estes and Jennie Garth - have just announced that they will be leaving the CW program. Estes, who plays West Beverly’s principal and father to Annie and Dixon, will depart after Season 2. It’s not known how much longer Garth, the high school’s counselor, will appear on the program.

Although the reasons for their exits are unclear, an insider told E! Online that their ages did play a factor. “They just don’t want the old people on the new show anymore,” a source started.

90210 Premiere: A Second Opinion

90210

Okay - it’s been 12+ hours now since , and I think I’ve had a proper amount of time to digest that premiere. And while my impressions of the show haven’t changed since last night night, it’s taken me a while to quickly summarize why I was left disappointed:

90210 wants to be what Gossip Girl already is.

After reading a list of reviews today - including the one written by my TV Envy colleague - I felt there was still room to offer an opposing opinion.

In general, most of the critics agreed that the show was much better than feared. I mean - should we have expected more from a show that didn’t offer any previews? No. But should we have expected more from a network that already offers quality catty fare? Yes.

Luke Perry, Shannen Doherty and Casting for 90210

90210

Years have passed since the show rocketed to success (and was subsequently canceled), and yet is still dominating entertainment news. If you’re longing to see some familiar faces on the fall spin-off of the popular teen series, you won’t be disappointed. If you’re hoping to see Luke Perry on the new show, you will be.

“It’s that 90210 time of year,” Perry laughed with reporters as he answered questions about the spin-off (though he was actually promoting an unrelated project with the Hallmark Channel). Luke Perry has already stated that he will not - that’s right, will not - become Dylan again on camera. According to his own comments, Perry does not really wish to do the series without mastermind Aaron Spelling, famed TV producer (and sire of Tori Spelling) who passed away in 2006.

Interviews with CW’s 90210 Cast

Well, we already know they look the part - but will CW’s new 90210 cast actually do the spinoff justice?

In the video below, the actors talk about their new roles and give us a hint as to what we should expect.

Although they promise to “take this show to a whole new level,” this clip feels very similar to things we’ve seen before—from the production value straight down to the character description. That’s not necessarily a bad thing; I just don’t think they should set the bar too high for themselves.
