Okay, so it didn’t make a significant jump. But given the music and sports competition, Lost should be happy with its slight bump last night. It’s all about the little things, right?

  • The (6.1/17) had 22.1 million doing triple Axels.

High-flying snowboard action on NBC couldn’t keep the singing voices at FOX quiet. Last night’s American Idol managed to beat the Winter Olympics coverage at its own ratings game.

Last night’s premiere of Past Life did what few post-Idol debuts have done before: Disappoint. Despite a huge lead-in, the series opener came in fourth in its hour in both the viewers and the demos.

  • Approximately 27.9 million saw Ellen DeGeneres’ first day on (10.1/26 in 18-49).
  • (19.8 million, 4.1/11) picked up 700,000.
  • (3.5/9) averaged 8.9 million over two hours.
  • * (1.7/4) helped 4.9 million get caught up.
  • * (0.4/1) scraped up 910,000.

Lost Producers Not Aware of Bud Light Super Bowl Commercial


Jay Leno and David Letterman’s Super Bowl commercial wasn’t the only spot yesterday to mock some television drama. ABC’s Lost also became the focus of one of Bud Light’s many ads.

Given the similarities between the actual show and the clip, you’d have thought executive producers and Damon Lindelof were somehow involved. Well, they weren’t—but that doesn’t mean they didn’t enjoy the commercial.

  • Bank of Hollywood (E!, 8pm):  “Contestants include a daredevil in a wheelchair, an aspiring soap actress and a bodybuilding grandma.” The actress’ Guiding Light severance checks eventually disqualified her from the program.
  • Heroes (NBC, 9pm):  “Hiro reviews his past choices and takes action to stop a catastrophe.” If he can make it as far back as Season 2, he might be able to save NBC.
  • Celebrity Fit Club: Boot Camp (VH1, 9pm):  “The Season 7 premiere introduces the new cast members: Sebastian Bach, Bobby Brown, Nicole Eggert, Kevin Federline, Shar Jackson, Jay McCarroll, KayCee Stroh and Tanisha Thomas.” At least one of these celebrities was brought in from Skid Row.

Tuesday Ratings: Lost is Found by Viewers

Lost’s 3-hour kickoff might not have done enough to beat the activity over at FOX, but it did do well enough to beat itself. Yesterday’s event showed year-to-year premiere improvement for the first time since Season 2. The series also had its best rating in almost two years.

  • (8.9/23 in 18-49) raised 300,000 more.
  • (19.1 million, 4.3/11) fell by 1 million.
  • The first hour of * (4.1/11) recapped 9.9 million.
  • A * repeat (1.6/4) weighed in with 4.9 million.
  • * (0.4/1) kept 873,000 busy.

Lost’s Matthew Fox Leaving Television After Finale


While there’s a good chance Jack Shephard will be still on the island when Lost finally wraps, there’s one place we know won’t be: on television.

According to the actor, he’ll be leaving the boob tube to test out other waters. “I’m either going to make movies with filmmakers I want to work with or I’ll be doing something else entirely,” Fox claimed.
