Assessing (and Ignoring) the New Fall Season
Posted by David L. Williams Categories: Comedy, Daytime, Drama, Kids, Music, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Editorial
As I type this, I’m listening to the new Radiohead album, In Rainbows, and I’m in a terrifically good mood. See, I love Radiohead like Tyra Banks loves … well, Tyra Banks, and so you would think that this good mood would make me put together a list of wonderful things about the new fall TV season.
Yeah, not so much. To be honest, I haven’t watched a lot of the new fall network TV shows. But it’s worthwhile to take a look at these shows and for me to say what I watched, what I thought, and why I didn’t watch a lot of them. Well, it’s worthwhile for me anyway. Plus it goes well with Radiohead (not really, but it’s not like I’m gonna stop listening). Here goes:

ABC Takes Ratings Lead Sunday, Monday Nights
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Action, Animation, Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, Dancing With The Stars, Desperate Housewives, Family Guy, Heroes, Prison Break, The Bachelor, Ratings
This weekend’s ABC premieres made it clear audiences prefer their dramas soapy on Sunday nights.

- Although Desperate Housewives (19.3 million viewers, 7.4/17 share in 18-49 demo) and Brothers & Sisters (13.3 million, 5.1/13) were both down from last year’s premieres (23% and 15% respectively), both shows earned their best numbers since Nov. 26th.
- Cold Case (13.5 million, 3.4/8) and Shark (11.4 million, 2.7/7) did improve upon last week’s premieres, though Shark’s numbers were lower compared to last year’s time slot holder (Without a Trace).
- The Simpsons (8.4 million, 4.2/11), King of the Hill (7.2 million, 3.5/9) and Family Guy (7.9 million, 4.2/10) all underperformed their numbers from last Sunday.

New Residents on Wisteria Lane
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Desperate Housewives
Desperate Housewives is about to have a new couple move to Wisteria Lane. Dana Delany, who was most recently seen on Kidnapped, was originally approached to play the part of Bree Van De Kamp (now Bree Hodge) on Housewives. I don’t know about you, but I can’t imagine anyone doing as great a job with that role as Marcia Cross. She is, to sound completely stupid, “delicious.” I love the way she plays that uptight character and to be honest, I think she was the only thing getting me through the stale second season of the show. Delany is in discussions now with ABC to join the upcoming fourth season, as well as Nathan Fillion who is well-loved by fans of Firefly and last season’s Drive. The two will play husband and wife, with Lyndsy Fonseca (who plays Future Ted’s daughter on How I Met Your Mother) joining the cast as their daughter.

Desperate Housewives Ratings Dip
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, ABC, HBO, Desperate Housewives, The Sopranos, Ratings
If you caught Sunday night’s episode of Desperate Housewives and felt disappointed, you’re not alone. The show is just screaming for a decent storyline and the latest episode failed to deliver the goods. Ratings for Sunday were at their lowest for the series, drawing just 15.9 million viewers. Overall, the show has seen about 5 million fewer viewers from last season. ABC claims that the dip may have been because of the Easter holiday, the fact that The Sopranos’ last season aired at the same time, or the first time back for DH in five weeks. Maybe another scenario is that the show has just become boring. I was irked about Felicity Huffman’s character’s beef over wearing orange t-shirts as part of the restaurant uniform. That’s the best they can come up with?! Also there really was a void without Marcia Cross on the episode. Here’s hoping for better stories in the weeks to come before the season finale.

Desperate Housewife Marcia Cross Delivers Twins
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Desperate Housewives, Gossip
Marcia Cross, of Desperate Housewives, welcomed twin girls into the world on Tuesday. Her rep told People magazine that “Mother and babies are all doing well.” Cross and husband, stockbroker Tom Mahoney, named the girls Eden and Savannah. These are the first children for both Cross and Mahoney. You may recall that Cross was put on bed rest in January, which caused but a mere wrinkle in production of the hit ABC drama. Producers for the show just brought cast and crew to Cross’s home to shoot her remaining episodes before maternity leave. The set folks transformed Cross’s bedroom into Bree Van De Kamp’s room and I don’t think viewers were any wiser about it. At the time, bed rest was recommended as a “precautionary measure,” a typical procedure for women carrying twins. No doubt her kids will be just as beautiful as their mama. I mean, she has the most amazing skin and beautiful eyes, don’t you think? At any rate, congratulations to Cross and company!
