Mel Gibson Talks to Jay Leno About Girlfriend’s Pregnancy

Jon and Kate Gosselin might have been addressing rumors last night, but it Mel Gibson’s chat that drew laughs.

During a sit-down with exiting Tonight Show host Jay Leno, People‘s first “Sexiest Man Alive” gave himself a new title: “Octo-Mel.” The new nickname is a result of his girlfriend’s pregnancy. (The 53-year-old has seven other children with his first wife.)

When asked how he met the Russian singer, Mel said he heard Oksana Grigorieva’s voice before he actually met her in person. “Did you hear Susan Boyle?” Jay then joked.

Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien

Just because he won’t be moving far doesn’t mean can’t throw himself a party.

Starting next Monday, a list of celebrities will be stopping by to offer their goodbyes. The weeklong “farewell” will cap off Leno’s 17-year run at 11:30 PM.

On May 25, Mel Gibson will kick off the celebration with singer Dwight Yoakam. This will be the Lethal Weapon star’s first television interview since news of his impending divorce broke. (I wonder if he will be addressing rumors his girlfriend’s pregnancy?)

Mel Gibson Calls DUI Arrest ‘A Blessing’

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, ABC, News

Mel Gibson Apparently it was the wake-up call that Mel Gibson needed to get sober. Too bad it was also a huge image-breaker and public humiliation. I’m speaking, of course, about his DUI arrest in July, complete with anti-Semitic comments. He’s finally come forward in an interview with Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America to talk about the incident and the subsequent fallout. In the first part of the interview, which aired this morning, Gibson called his arrest “a blessing,” saying that he needed “public humiliation on a global scale” to get sober. Commenting on the incident and his alcoholism, Gibson said, “Sometimes you need a cold bucket of water in the face to sort of snap to, because you’re dealing with a sort of malady of the soul, an obsession of the mind and a physical allergy.” Jewish leaders, addiction experts and PR gurus believe that he still has a way to go on rebuilding his reputation, with many saying that he is hiding behind alcoholism and not taking full credit for the incident.

The second part of the interview will air on Friday morning on Good Morning America.

Chevy Chase to Guest on Law and Order

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, NBC

Chevy ChaseChevy Chase—where have you been? He’s back, and this time giving the drama Law & Order a spin as a guest star. He stars as a hollywood actor who is arrested for DUI. The episode has a decidedly familiar ring on the recent incident with Mel Gibson, as the character’s “religious prejudice comes out after his arrest.” The spin, however, is that this character will be “wearing blood-soaked clothes.”

Gibson’s incident took place in July and he pleaded no contest in August, receiving a sentence of three years’ probation, payment of a fine and required attendance at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Chase, of course, is well known for being a cast member of Saturday Night Live, as well as his appearances in the Vacation, Caddyshack and Fletch films. Apparently, Chase hasn’t been too far from the spotlight recently, including the film Zoom this summer, and the indie films Ellie Parker and Funny Money.
