VIDEO: Joan Rivers Can’t Take a Joke
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, Gossip, Video,
Joan Rivers has often remained good-natured about her own love affair with plastic surgery, giving and receiving jokes with good grace as part of her colorful career. But don’t crack a funny on the subject of Joan’s daughter Melissa Rivers - sparks (and swearing) will ensue.
Rivers abruptly ended an interview and dropped TV’s biggest no-no live on the air when an anchor tried to joke with the celebrity who’s usually so great with one-liners. Watch the video - and your ears - if you want to see Joan melt down.

Will Celebrities Shine in Trump’s World?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, NBC, Apprentice, The - Donald, Gossip, Renewals,
Poker players. TV personalities. Recording artists. Athletes. What do they all have in common? They all want to learn from Donald Trump. Or, they at least want to give that appearance while they collect a paycheck from NBC.
Reality TV has now become much more a medium for quasi- and has-been celebs, rather than an unscripted jaunt where ordinary folks get their chance to shine. But what the hell? Donald Trump is always fun, so why not another season of The Celebrity Apprentice? At this point, NBC’s willing to try anything.
So who makes up the star-studded cast? Mother-daughter team Joan and Melissa Rivers will join Tionne Watkins (T-Boz of TLC), Brande Roderick (Baywatch), reality TV vet Khloe Kardashian, Annie Duke (reigning poker queen), Natalie Gulbis (pro golfer) and Claudia Jordan (Deal or No Deal winner) to make up the female team.

This Week on TV (8/25-8/31)
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Drama, Games, Kids, Music, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Bravo, Cable, CBS, MTV, NBC, General Hospital,
MONDAY (8/25)
- General Hospital (ABC, check local listings): Genie Francis wakes up from her catatonic state. Hurry up and ask her all your questions before she goes back under.
- High School Musical: Get in the Picture (ABC, 8pm): “The six finalists attempt to learn TV theme songs from the 1970s and ‘80s.” Should we really allow these teens to butcher classic songs from before they were born?
- Deal or No Deal (NBC, 8pm): Season 4 premiere. Could this be the day that someone wins the million? Pleez. Do you think they’d give it up that quickly?
- America’s Toughest Jobs (NBC, 9pm): Series premiere. “Average Joes perform dangerous and physically demanding jobs in this competition series. The winner is awarded the annual salary of each job completed.” Aren’t Average Joes the ones already performing these jobs?

MONDAY (6/23)
- I Love the New Millennium (VH1, 10pm): “Eight-part series featuring stars reminiscing about pop culture phenomena of the new millennium begins with the year 2000.” Is it too soon to wonder what VH1 will cover in 2011?
- Legally Blonde the Musical: The Search for Elle Woods (MTV,10pm): “The ladies perform with a canine costar: Bruiser, the dog from the musical.” I had no idea Ashton Kutcher revived Punk’d.
- Psychic Kids: Children of the Paranormal (A&E, 10pm): “A 14-year-old boy, who claims to see spirits of people and animals, is introduced to siblings close to his age who supposedly have paranormal gifts.” I’m always happy when freaky kids find someone to play with.
- Weeds (Showtime, 10pm): “Celia’s hard time in county lock-up gets harder when her cellmate decides to make Celia her ‘special girl’.” Yeah - that would definitely suck.

Lisa Rinna Takes on the Red Carpet
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Award Shows, Daytime, Prime Time, Cable, Cable/Satellite,
Seems like no one wants Joan and Melissa Rivers these days. First E! gave them the boot from red carpet duties, and now the TV Guide Channel is letting the pair go too. Never fear, actress Lisa Rinna will be taking over the red carpet gig, signing an exclusive deal with TV Guide Channel. She starts with the Emmy Awards on September 16th. TV Guide Channel President Ryan O’Hara couldn’t be more pleased, saying, “Lisa has the perfect mix of charisma, poise and experience to lead our live Red Carpet coverage at the major industry award shows. In addition to being an established TV star, she also has fashion expertise as both a business person and commentator, so she is a great fit for this role and for our brand. We are thrilled to welcome her to the TV Guide family and look forward to seeing her on the Red Carpet in September.” I won’t knock Rinna too much—I used to watch her on Days of our Lives back in the day, plus she was on Melrose Place. She also won over a lot of viewers when she was a contestant on Dancing with the Stars. Apparently, she’s also served as the host of Soap Talk on SOAPnet, earning four Emmy nominations. And she’s worlds better than either of the Rivers ladies.
