Awkward TV: Jesse Jackson Confused for Al Sharpton

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Cable, News, Video

There are two things Jesse Jackson doesn’t like: green eggs and ham...or being confused with Al Sharpton.

During in interview yesterday with Jackson about income inequality, MSNBC anchor Contessa Brewer made the mistake of calling this reverend by that other name. An awkward pause soon follows.

Tucker Carlson Out at MSNBC

Posted by Jacci Lewis Categories: Talk Shows, Cable, NBC, Cancellations, News

Tucker CarlsonThe seemingly lone conservative at is out of the anchor chair, at least for now. The Associated Press reports that Tucker Carlson’s “Tucker”  show on that cable news network has been cancelled. He’ll reportedly be replaced by NBC firebrand David Gregory. Gregory’s show, Race for the White House, begins one week from tonight at 6 p.m.

MSNBC says this and other changes the network is making are in response to the growing demand for more political news. (Gosh, it seems like that is all they do now besides all those prison reality shows and constant repeats of To Catch a Predator.) Other changes announced are that reporter Andrea Mitchell will now permanently anchor one hour a day on MSNBC Monday through Friday and that Countdown With Keith Olbermann will rerun every night at 10 p.m.

Rosie O’Donnell’s MSNBC Gig Falls Through

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Daytime, Prime Time, Talk Shows, Cable

Rosie O'DonnellThat was quick. Just a couple of days ago, I reported that was in negotiations with for a prime time talk show. Now… not so much. And yet again, it’s Rosie’s big mouth that’s to blame. And yet again, it’s Rosie’s haiku blog that breaks the news: “We were close to a deal/ almost done/ i let it slip in miami/ causing panic on the studio end/ Well/ what can u do/ 2day there is no deal/ poof/ my career as a pundit is over/ b4 it began.” At a recent appearance in Miami, O’Donnell spilled the beans by revealing that she would be competing against “the guy with the suspenders and the long, long face” (). Seems that and her comment at a New York stand-up gig that she was “filming for an unidentified TV station” may have sealed her fate. Then again, Rosie has commented before that she doesn’t really need to work, so I’m sure she’s not too upset about how things turned out. I can just hear comments about what a pathetic failure Rosie is. Mark my words, he’ll be showing up on an entertainment news show any day now.

Rosie O’Donnell Joining MSNBC?

Rosie O'Donnell Sounds like is turning lemons into lemonade since she left . The once nicey-nice daytime talk show host turned controversial table talker of The View is in negotiations with to have her own talk show again. Could it be true? And if it is, will people tune in? If this is a go, she will host a prime time show opposite . Well heck, anything has to be better than Larry King, right? Not so fast… nothing is a done deal yet and in fact NBC is not confirming any details, nor is her rep commenting about the possible show. But Rosie did give a hint at a recent book signing, saying that her competition would soon be “the guy with the suspenders and the long, long face.” Do you think this show has a chance of getting off the ground? You’ll be able to catch O’Donnell on the small screen again as Dawn Budge on FX’s . And you may recall she came this close to landing the hosting gig on . Thankfully, was the big winner on that front.

Maury and Connie:  Together At Last

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Cable, Syndication, News

Povich Chung on MSNBCWhat do you get when you combine a former CBS anchorwoman with the man best-known for collecting paternity tests? The new anchor team for MSNBC:  Connie Chung and Maury Povich.  Despite being married for 20 years, this is the first time that the married lovebirds will appear on a national news program together.  Debuting the weekend of January 7th, the unnamed news program will take a look at the weeks headlines - ranging from politics to pop culture - and will include live guests.  Kind of like a cross between The Daily Show and The Soup?  Coincidentally, the executive producer of the show is a former head writer for The Daily Show.

I must say – I’ve always thought that Maury and Connie made quite an interesting pair.  But I’ve always wondered how Maury could come home at the end of the night and not be ridiculed for his latest episode of “Who’s Your Daddy?“  Then again, Connie’s been off the air since 2003 while he’s currently in his eighth year of Maury…so I guess she really doesn’t have any room to criticize.

In case you were wondering, the latest round of paternity results will be revealed this Friday on Maury.
