Spaced Remake Snubs Creators

For fans of the original series - some of us still finding it hard to accept that there will never be a third season - the announcement that an American remake of Spaced was on the way probably didn’t raise cheers of joy.
In fact, it’s always been assumed that Granada (as it will be called) would be Americanized and Hollywoodized beyond recognition from the original genius upon which it’s based, which makes this latest piece of news all the more infuriating.
Wonderland and Warner Brothers, more specifically McG, have apparently cut Simon Pegg, Jessica (Stevenson) Hynes, and show’s director Edgar Wright out of any participation with the show, crossing lines from avoidance to clear expression that their creative input is undesired. A foolish gesture considering Pegg and Wright’s phenomenal American success with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, and morally just all sorts of wrong.

FCC Reduces Fine Against FOX Over 2003 Reality Show

FOX reality TV, sort of. The Federal Communications Commission slashed nearly all of a proposed $1.2 million indecency fine against several FOX stations yesterday, according to the Washington Post.
The FCC instead decided stations can only be fined for airing the offensive TV show in question if viewers actually complained about it. There was not a change in the FCC’s determination that the show in question was, in fact, indecent.
In this case, 13 of the 169 FOX stations that aired the April 7, 2003 episode of the short-lived Married By America will actually be required to pay indecency fines. The total amount of fines will be somewhere near $91,000.
The episode that lead to the original fine showed digitally-obscured nudity and strippers covered in whipped cream. FOX argued that the worst parts were obscured, keeping the scene from being indecent under FCC rules which prohibit conventional radio and television stations from broadcasting what’s called “patently offensive” material of a sexual or excretory nature between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. (Times when children are most likely to be watching.) Obviously FCC indecency statutes do not cover cable or satellite TV (e.g. Paradise Hotel 2).
The Post says FOX, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., hasn’t decided whether to appeal the FCC ruling in federal court.

Sullied TV Bounty Hunter To Get Second Chance on A&E?

Cats may not be the only animals with 9 lives. It appears dogs get second chances too. At least that is what TMZ is reporting about sullied TV bounty hunter Duane “Dog” Chapman.
An A&E network official confirmed to TMZ that his hugely popular reality show will be going back into production as soon as possible in Hawaii. TMZ reports that supporting people like makeup artists and camera crews have been hired in preparation for the show.
Production of Dog The Bounty Hunter was suspended indefinitely last November after the National Enquirer got a hold of two audiotapes that featured Chapman on a racially-offensive tirade. On the tapes, the 55-year old Chapman is heard using the “N word” several times and demanding that his son break-up with his African American girlfriend or be fired from family bail bond business. A&E’s original decision to suspend production of the show came, in part, because of growing pressure from sponsors. No word if that part of the story has been resolved.
