One Life To Live: 40 and Fabulous
For most people who watch soap operas, the shows you follow are sort of like religion: you are usually exposed by a parent when you are young and you usually go through a period in your life (or several, for that matter) when you lose your faith. When I was a child, my mother (the most interesting person I know, by the way) watched General Hospital and One Life To Live. And so I started watching those two ABC soaps. In fact I remember some summers when I was 11 or 12 where my whole day centered around catching the latest news from Llanview or Port Charles. (This is a fact I find extremely disturbing now that I am an adult and parent of two small daughters.)

Daytime Dish: Snoop Dogg Visits One Life to Live
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Music, ABC
If celebs need to get themselves seen, they may want to start hitting up the hot spots in Llanview.
Over the past few months, One Life to Live has seen a score of musical performers travel through its Pennsylvanian town. Last October, Timbaland hit the stage at Capricorn, a hip night club on the show. One month ago, Mary J. Blige performed during two episodes of the daytime drama. Now it’s Snoop’s chance to bring the house down.
The star of Father Hood will take the mike during the next sweeps period. Snoop Dogg will perform several songs from his new album in another two-day stint. The rapper will also serve up his own treatment of OLTL‘s opening theme and lend his acting skills to the ABC soap.
You can check out Snoop’s gig at Ultra Violet on May 8th and 9th.

Review: Mary J. Blige On One Life To Live
If you blinked you may have missed singer Mary J. Blige‘s performance near the end of ABC’s One Life To Live today. The good news is she’ll be back on Monday, February 18. Blige and her real band performed at character Starr Manning’s (Kristen Alderson) sweet 16 birthday party. It was by far the best 2-3 minutes of the otherwise tedious cliffhanger Friday show.
Blige gave an exuberant performance of her song, “Just Fine”. It was the R&B singer’s second time performing on One Life to Live. Her first go around in Llanview was back in 2006.
Incorporating real stars into the fictional world of soap operas can come across as clunky at times (think back to Timbaland’s appearance on OLTL last year when he claimed to be a fan of fictional singer Sarah “Flash” Roberts). OLTL’s writers handled this one smoothly with a crowd of kids who were supposed to be at a nightclub party anyway. The actors and extras looked like they were having a genuinely good time. So did Mary J. She says she has been a fan of the show since she was a child.

Daytime Dish: ‘GH’, ‘One Life to Live’, ‘As The World Turns’

Sarah Brown, the first of four actresses to play the role of Carly Corinthos, will be making a return to General Hospital. Interestingly enough, she won’t be there to take her old spot back (like Rebecca Budig recently did on All My Children). Brown will be making a splashy entrance as an entirely new character: Claudia Zacchara, mobster Johnny’s sister. (Don’t try and question how this could happen; Kelly Monaco played a different character on the vampire-filled Port Charles before she became Sam on the bloodsucker-less GH.)
Sarah, who originated the role of Carly back in 1996 (she left in 2001), will not only have a juicy face-to-face with the current Carly (played by Laura Wright), she’ll have a heated encounter of the bedroom kind with her old hubby, Sonny Corinthos. I can’t wait! Brown currently has a one-year contract with the daytime drama and is scheduled to make her debut on Thursday, Jan. 31.

‘One Life to Live’ Star Arrested for Assault
Actor Nathaniel Marston, who plays Dr. Michael McBain on ABC’s One Life to Live, was arrested Sunday morning in New York. Unlike other celebrity scandals which usually involve misdemeanors, Marston is facing at least one felony charge.
The actor, who was reportedly enraged after exiting a cab, used a crate to assault three men; one of his victims suffered a broken leg. It’s unclear what ignited his attack, though officers believe he was under the influence of a narcotic at the time. Nathaniel, 32, was arrested for felony assault, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest. He was later transported to a local hospital where he was listed as ‘emotionally disturbed’. This would not be Marston’s first brush with the law. Back in 1999, while he was working on CBS’s As The World Turns, he was arrested for taking his rage out on an ATM machine. (Dude, no money means no money.)
It is unknown what the producers of One Life to Live will do about the situation at this point; Nathaniel is currently involved in a major storyline on the show. Meanwhile, a rep for ABC told TVGuide.com that they ‘are aware of the incident and are reviewing the details.’ If fired from OLTL, this would be Marston’s second time around. He was killed off back in 2003 (reportedly due to questionable work habits) but later brought back as a different character due to strong fan reaction.
(You can read a follow-up to this story here.)
