The Rise And Fall Of Britney Spears: Who’s To Blame?

Forget about Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. The year 2007 belonged to Britney Spears. And not in a, “Hey, Britney Spears is the sexiest women alive and sold a lot of records” kind of way. No, it’s more like, “Hey, Britney Spears split from her back-up dancer husband, had her disgusting hoo-ha and c-section scar plastered all over the internet, shaved all her hair off, lost custody of her children and had a comeback performance/album that bombed.” Yeah, she’s had that kind of year. And frankly, I’m pretty freakin’ tired of seeing her face every time I turn on the TV or go online and having to listen to every step of the “Britney custody saga” reported as legitimate news.
This woman is a disaster. Let’s make that point very clear from the outset. She is clearly a very unstable woman in need of some very serious help, and she’s not getting it. And now that it’s being reported that yet another member of the Spears clan has her tin-roof rusted, I think we need to take a step back and take a look at the big picture. Who is really to blame for the downfall of one of the biggest names and faces in, not only music, but pop culture as a whole? Who is responsible for the destruction of Britney Spears?

CNN Documentary Reveals Poor Journalism

Professional wrestling has long been the red-headed stepchild of both entertainment and sports - dismissed as “fake” for its predetermined outcomes and often criticized for its over-the-top personalities. So it comes as no surprise that when WWE superstar Chris Benoit killed his family and himself several months ago, pro-wrestling’s detractors saw their opening.
Since that day, speculation over the possible, albeit unlikely, link to those deaths and steroids has opened WWE to federal investigations as well as a firestorm of public/media scrutiny. Among the pieces supposedly “exposing” the steroid use of WWE superstars was CNN’s Death Grip: Inside Pro Wrestling, which aired this past week. In this broadcast, former WWE Champion John Cena was asked if he had ever used steroids. CNN showed his frank response as: “I can’t tell you that I haven’t, but you’ll never be able to prove that I have.”
But that’s not how Cena responded to the question. Join me after the jump for his full answer.

A Simple Ratings Boost for E!
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Reality, Ratings, Renewals, Rumors
Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie enjoyed more than simple success with the first season of The Simple Life. The program brought in good numbers for FOX, one of the power players in the network ratings game. Hilton and Richie became more than celebutantes, known for shopping in sunny L.A. – they became bona fide reality stars. For three seasons, they enjoyed funny exploits for FOX. Then, the friendship fallout. Headlines were splashed everywhere, speculation ran heavy, and soon Richie was making her own headlines for rehab stints and startling weight losses. FOX wanted out of this not-so-simple mess when Paris and Nicole publicly stated they wouldn’t work with each other. The show was dropped, and the two famous-for-being-famous former friends might have lived the rest of their days as mere tabloid fodder. Instead, E! decided to pick the show up, formatting the fourth season of The Simple Life, this time subtitled ‘Til Death Do Us Part, so that the two wouldn’t have to actually spend time together on-screen. The simple show opened to record-breaking ratings on E!, though the same amount of viewers for the season would have been considered a huge flop for FOX. E! announced plans to renew the show even before the fourth season was finished airing. Early on, execs of the cable station said the girls would not get through the fifth season without sharing camera time. Conveniently, they didn’t have to worry about how they were going to pull it off – the girls reconciled, and now the dazzling ditzy duo will be featured together again for their fifth Simple season: The Simple Life Goes to Camp.

Paris Celebrates 26 With a Big Bash – Again
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: NBC, Gossip
Though the famous party girl Paris Hilton celebrated her 26th birthday with a big Las Vegas bash, she threw another party over the weekend for those friends who couldn’t make it to her first one. Well, for her friends and for herself - Paris loves to party. The celebutante opened her Hollywood Hills home (an extravagant pad filled with Paris pictures and an actual stripper pole right in the living room) and let the pink drinks flow from the bar for her crowd of friends and hangers-on. Red bull, Pinky Vodka, and AsomBroso Pink Tequila were liberally poured to party guests, who were on hand when Paris’s huge, present-shaped birthday cake was wheeled out among oohs and ahhs. Chocolates and other sweet treats circulated as Paris danced the night away. Paris told Extra that her favorite birthday present came from boyfriend Stavros Niarchos, an elegant (read “expensive”) bracelet for her wrist. Many of Paris’s usual guests were on hand, from sister Nicky Hilton to Stavros, Brandon Davis, and her publicist Elliott Mintz. Other guests included American Idol judge Paula Abdul, wrestler turned movie hunk The Rock, and Ryan Reynolds.

The Bachelor May Return for 10th Season
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Internet, Renewals
Well, although it’s not yet an official announcement, there is buzz on the Internet that another season of The Bachelor is in the works. It’s 10th season. And no, that’s not a typo. I can’t even believe that some dude has been handing out roses for 10 seasons. Daily Variety is reporting that the 10th installment of the show may air in late spring. The current Bachelor, which takes place in Rome, has not been as big of a draw for viewers as The Bachelor: Paris (which aired in the spring). The drop in ratings is likely a result of scheduling—The Bachelor airs opposite Heroes on NBC. The Rome edition ranks second for its time, and averages 8.06 million viewers each week. The two-hour season finale of The Bachelor: Rome will air on November 27th at 9:00 p.m.
ABC is expected to make an announcement about the renewal next week.
