Melrose Place Premieres with a Shriek: Review
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Prime Time, The CW, Editorial, Gossip, Video
The CW’s premiere of Melrose Place, the new version, did everything it was supposed to do…even if it did rely upon a few shopworn plot ideas to do it. There was much less shock factor and much more slick appeal than what was to be expected. But at the end of the episode, enough loose ends were left hanging to keep audiences coming back for more.
To sum it up, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz’s acting was bad, Sydney’s part was pretty small and the blonde girl? Completely unlikable so far - but definitely a diva worth hating.

South Park Pilot Available Online
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Animation, Comedy, Cable, Internet

Twelve years after South Park hit the airwaves, we are getting a rare opportunity to see the episode that started it all.
For a limited time, SouthParkStudios.com will be streaming the original pilot that launched the iconic Comedy Central series. The entirely handmade episode - it’s amazing what you can do with construction paper! - was hand-animated primarily by Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
The video, which was the basis for “Cartman Gets An Anal Probe,” will contain an additional four minutes of footage not seen in the series premiere.
Every other episode from the comedy’s 13 seasons can already be viewed via South Park’s website.

Will ABC Family’s Pilot Make It?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Sports, ABC, Cable, Gossip, Video
ABC Family used the sweet spot behind Secret Life to premiere its new family drama, Make It or Break It, Monday night. This gymnastics-focused series details the life of young gymnasts attending a special Olympics training facility.
Three females led the first scene: Payson Keeler (Ayla Kell), who never looks too far ahead; Kaylie Cruz (Josie Loren), who can’t wait to pig out after the competition is over, and Lauren Tanner (Cassie Scerbo), who wants to enjoy a jet setter’s life.
Soon, the Coach was talking seriously of their future, saying that only three would go on to the top. New gymnast Emily then made her appearance, shaking up the top three set of girls who were introduced earlier.

Reviewing FOX’s Fall: A Glee-ful Premiere?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Music, Prime Time, FOX, Gossip, Video
Glee will feature rather prominently on FOX’s fall schedule, appearing in the coveted spot right behind the So You Think You Can Dance results show. The network is throwing every promotional trick they can muster at the series, with the early post-Idol premiere serving as the biggest treat in the campaign.
So, was it worth the hour of programming?
The opening was promising enough: fast-paced, flashing scenes at a sunny high school. An energetic, cheerleader-heavy intro ended with the coach’s angry face and witty one-liner - perfectly setting the tone for the rest of the episode.

Arr, Matey: Spike TV Docudrama Details Pirate Pursuits
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Reality, Cable, Gossip
Spike TV is all set to present Pirate Hunters: USN, which comes just on the wake of national news involving Somali pirates. The series showcases the U.S. Navy’s pursuit of pirates and piracy in the Gulf of Aden.
Though the series is in the same locale where piracy made recent headlines, the deal has already been in the works for months. The Navy has allowed cameras aboard the USS San Antonio and the USS Boxer, the latter of which was part of the recent rescue effort.
A Pirate Hunters pilot is in the works, but there’s no word on when it will air.

Amanda Bynes Goes to Work for ABC
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, ABC, Gossip
What I Like About You star Amanda Bynes will soon make her return to TV via ABC. Bynes will play a young, Midwestern girl in the new comedy Canned.
The pilot features a group of friends working in the same corporation, all of whom get fired on the very same day. It’s a plot that could be very familiar to home viewers, and Bynes has no shortage of comedic chops to bring to the series.
Bynes will play workaholic Sarabeth on the show. David Rosenthal will serve as executive producer.

Small Screen Adaptations: Witches of Eastwick, Maid in Manhattan
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, ABC, News

Just when I thought ABC was making huge strides with programs like Pushing Daisies, the network decides to take a few creative steps back.
In the past week, it’s been announced that two motion pictures may be adapted for the small screen.
On Monday, Variety reported that John Updike’s novel about three witches (and a devilish man) may be getting new life. The Witches of Eastwick - which later became a 1987 film starring Jack Nicholson, Susan Sarandon, Michelle Pfeiffer and Cher - is now being redeveloped into a television pilot.

Joss Whedon Rearranges Dollhouse Schedule
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Sci-Fi/Horror, FOX, News
Although we still have months to go before the premiere of Dollhouse, Joss Whedon followers may already have a reason to be worried. The show’s creator has just announced that he’ll be shooting a whole new pilot for his FOX show.
Dollhouse, the second Whedon creation for that network (he was also the man behind Firefly), stars Buffy vet Eliza Dushku as one of several agents for hire. Their abilities and memories, which are specifically crafted for each client, are immediately erased after an assignment is completed.
After showing Episode #1 to FOX execs - and even friend David Lynch - it was agreed that series could start off on a better note. In fact, some apparently found the segment confusing. To remedy the situation, Whedon is crafting a prequel that will air just before the pilot episode. He believes this will help introduce the characters better.

Lost’s Harold Perrineau Lands ABC Pilot
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Action, Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Lost, Announcements, News

After making some bitter remarks about his last series, former Lost star Harold Perrineau clearly had no worries, as he has secured a role in an upcoming ABC pilot.
Whether you were disheartened or rejoiced upon his exit on Lost, the Brooklyn native is definitely not without work. The ABC pilot, titled The Unusuals, is a police “dramedy” set in New York (what a surprise!). His character, Leo Banks, is a very agitated and somewhat paranoid detective (he never takes off his kevlar vest).
