Jeff Dunham Show: Greatest Thing Since South Park?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Cable, Ratings

If you’ve watched anything on Comedy Central recently, chances are great that you’ve seen promos of some guy playing with a puppet - teasers for The Jeff Dunham Show, which premiered recently after a very extensive promotional campaign. Yes, I said puppet. Dunham is a ventriloquist. But if you think that’s bad…
Scoring a whopping 5+ million viewers, Jeff Dunham’s puppet routine became the biggest premiere Comedy Central has ever had. That’s the kind of power which could give the comedian South Park-type longevity on the cable channel…as much as that prospect scares me.
Seriously, are we into this now?

Wanda Sykes Show Already Sinking?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Late Night, Talk Shows, FOX, Gossip, Video
FOX doesn’t give its new shows a lot of time to find their footing, and it seems that even Wanda Sykes might have feet made of clay. The network’s new Saturday night treat, The Wanda Sykes Show, is receiving some pretty dismal reviews. You might want to tune in before it’s too late.
Entertainment Weekly found the opening monologue to be a “scattershot,” boring event, peppered with “cliché” pro-Obama jokes. The Sykes show closed with a panel discussion, in which participants were allowed to sip at alcoholic beverages. The possibilities here are endless, but somehow it still stayed sedate.
I really rather miss Mad TV.

Food Network’s Next Big Reality Twist
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Food & Home, Prime Time, Reality, Cable, Gossip, Video
Imagine how delighted seven seasons’ worth of contestants would be if Simon Cowell stepped onto the Idol stage to sing - and, subsequently, be judged. On Season 2 of Food Network’s The Next Iron Chef, a hard-to-please judge will most certainly be on the set…but not to offer her critique.
Starting Sunday, Chopped‘s Amanda Freitag will be stepping out from behind the big table to stand under the harsh glare of criticism herself. Freitag is bucking to be The Next Iron Chef, the second the series has picked through reality TV competition. Michael Symon was the first to win the honor; he has gone on to enjoy a 7-2-1 winning record in Kitchen Stadium.

Melrose Place Premieres with a Shriek: Review
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Prime Time, The CW, Editorial, Gossip, Video
The CW’s premiere of Melrose Place, the new version, did everything it was supposed to do…even if it did rely upon a few shopworn plot ideas to do it. There was much less shock factor and much more slick appeal than what was to be expected. But at the end of the episode, enough loose ends were left hanging to keep audiences coming back for more.
To sum it up, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz’s acting was bad, Sydney’s part was pretty small and the blonde girl? Completely unlikable so far - but definitely a diva worth hating.

Ashlee Simpson Talks Melrose Place, Then and Now
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Prime Time, The CW, Gossip, Video
Ashlee Simpson appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night to talk about Melrose Place, both the original and new version. Simpson plays Violet Foster on the show, a character who quickly loses her innocence while living in the steamy sexpot inhabited by a crew of deviants.
The two talked about past plots, returning characters and not much else. Fallon, like many former Melrose watchers, is anxiously awaiting the return of Heather Locklear. She has not been confirmed as returning to the show, but she hasn’t stepped forward to say she won’t do it, either.
Melrose Place premieres September 8 on The CW.

Will ABC Family’s Pilot Make It?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Sports, ABC, Cable, Gossip, Video
ABC Family used the sweet spot behind Secret Life to premiere its new family drama, Make It or Break It, Monday night. This gymnastics-focused series details the life of young gymnasts attending a special Olympics training facility.
Three females led the first scene: Payson Keeler (Ayla Kell), who never looks too far ahead; Kaylie Cruz (Josie Loren), who can’t wait to pig out after the competition is over, and Lauren Tanner (Cassie Scerbo), who wants to enjoy a jet setter’s life.
Soon, the Coach was talking seriously of their future, saying that only three would go on to the top. New gymnast Emily then made her appearance, shaking up the top three set of girls who were introduced earlier.

Secret Life Premieres Season 2
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Cable, Gossip, Renewals, Video
After a brief recap of season one, The Secret Life of the American Teenager showed Amy Juergens (Shailene Woodley) struggling to care for her newborn son while doing chores around the house and attending school. The teen mother is now living with just her mother Anne (played by Molly Ringwald), who will definitely be pregnant in this season. The actress was expecting twins before filming began, so there was no way to continue her story without including a new baby.
It was just serendipity that the second season of the show opened with the same theme as the first - pregnancy. But this time, it’s the mother and not the daughter who is expecting.

VFTW Gets Behind Speidi of The Hills

You may want to run for The Hills when you see Spencer and Heidi Pratt on I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here, which launches tonight on NBC. The show, which aired in 2003 (and was subsequently canceled shortly thereafter) has been re-introduced to the schedule, evidently because there aren’t enough good ideas for reality TV anymore. Vote For the Worst is already backing the couple in their usual tongue-in-cheek way, and their reports from the jungles of Costa Rica are the most interesting aspect of the entire show.
The anti-American Idol site has some connection to the series, as Season 6 Idol contender Sanjaya Malakar is among the cast. But it’s not Malakar - or his hair - that’s drawn quick attention from the site, even before a single minute of the new season has been aired. According to VFTW, “if we like it, we’ll start voting for the worst as always.” And while nothing is official, they’re already leaning strongly toward MTV’s most famous celebrity pair.
