Michelle Obama Takes a Walk on Sesame Street

That large white residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue might be impressive, but it’s not the most exciting place Michelle Obama‘s been to this year. Earlier this week, the First Lady reached out to children everywhere with a PSA she recorded on Sesame Street. The clip, which also features that oh-so-cute red guy, stresses the importance of good eating.
An ecstatic Obama shared her joy with diplomats and staff members at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations. “I’m thrilled to be here, but I was just at Sesame Street—I’m sorry. And I never thought I’d be on Sesame Street with Elmo and Big Bird and I was thrilled. I’m still thrilled. I’m on a high,” she said. “I think it’s probably the best thing I’ve done so far in the White House. But we were there talking about nutrition and healthy eating, and it’s just been a thrill.”
Obama is not the first FLOTUS to appear on the classic children’s program. Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton have both guested as well.

General Hospital’s Heart Disease Awareness Effort Strikes an Awkward Note
Posted by Jacci Lewis Categories: Daytime, Drama, Talk Shows, ABC, General Hospital, Editorial
OK, I know it is for a good cause and all but I couldn’t help feeling a bit icky yesterday when one of the characters on ABC’s General Hospital mentioned a brand name product he liked: Campbell’s V8 Fusion drink.
This not-so-subtle plug was a result of ABC teaming up with Campbell’s Soup Company and the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” effort to raise awareness about the dangers of heart disease in women. The February-long effort spans ABC’s entire daypart including heart disease related topics on The View and as ABC’s press release states “cause-related marketing” on ABC’s Soapnet cable channel.
Some of the shows are able to weave the important public service message in fairly seamlessly. On ABC’s One Life to Live this integration of reality and storyline will culminate in a “Go Red” Valentine’s Day Ball hosted by usual enemies Dorian Lord and Viki Davidson. Viki has a history of heart disease and most soaps can’t go more than a few months without a ball storyline anyway.
ABC’s All My Children is working in the concept by having the ladies of the fictional Fusion Cosmetics host a “Go Red” Fashion Show. Not too much of a stretch there either.

America’s Next Top Model: Cycle 9: The Girl Who Gets A Mango

Note to future contestants: If you want to become America’s Next Top Model, it would be advisable to learn something from your time before the judges. Realizing she received a loud wake-up call at the last elimination, Ambreal made a call of her own —to her dad for a little prayer. Hoping to break from her side-profile tendencies, Heather sought posing advice from a surprisingly friendly Bianca. Then there was sour-faced Ebony. Although she felt her personality was far from dry (is that better than having a ‘prickly’ personality like Victoria?), she vowed to smile more for the judges.
Interrupting a lazy day at home, Jenah opened up the front door to welcome a surprise guest. Much to the shaggy-haired model’s dismay, the hunky Tyson Beckford was standing right in front of her. As the news rippled through their pad (Testosterone in the house! Testosterone in the house!), bursts of shrieks and screams could be heard. Once the girls were all quieted down, they all gathered round to listen to whatever he had to say. The world-famous male model was sent by Tyra for a purpose: he was there to give them tips on being a spokesmodel. For their instruction, Tyson asked the ladies to grab any object out of the kitchen. The goal was for them to promote any product thrown their way. Interestingly enough, not only did he not demonstrate his own selling techniques, he apparently told them to sound like phone-sex operators. From popsicles to glasses and mangoes, the ladies pimped their products without any shame…and Tyson loved every minute of it. (I’m sure the CoverGirl reps will appreciate what the future winner ends up bringing to their table.)

Isaiah Washington Cut From Grey’s Anatomy

After weeks of nail-biting—and some indifference—we now know the fates of Dr. Preston Burke and George O’Malley. After a long delay, ABC has finally renewed T.R. Knight’s contract while opting to cut Isaiah Washington from Grey’s Anatomy. The two actors had been in the middle of a heated controversy since Isaiah used a homophobic slur in reference to Knight.
Despite a recent public-service announcement taped by Washington (the commercial touting tolerance aired during a re-run), the act of contrition was apparently all in vain. The actors and crew were told of the casting decision late tonight.
Either too angry or lazy to come up with something original, Isaiah Washington released this statement through his publicist:
““I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it any more.”
