Janet Jackson Seeks Her Replacement on MTV

Janet Jackson gets her own reality showReality TV producers over at MTV have apparently lured pop icon Janet Jackson into developing yet another American Idol-esque series.

“It’s really about finding who’s the next Janet Jackson or Justin Timberlake or Usher,” executive producer David Broome explains; however, I am a bit unsure as to why we would need to find the next Janet, Justin, or Usher when all three are still rather successful artists today. Perhaps a hint at Jackson’s fall from her pop star throne?

Either way you slice it, the upcoming MTV show sounds just like Making the Band to me.

Fearing blatant comparisons to its predecessors, Boome added, “We’ll find it from a pool of people who you wouldn’t typically find it from. We’ll go to YMCAs, church groups, local community centers and try to cast the show.”

Wow! A reality show with a heart? I doubt it.

Brody Jenner is on the hunt for bromanceFans of MTV’s “reality show” The Hills have reason to rejoice this week.

The show’s star, Brody Jenner has just been given his own MTV show, titled Bromance, where he plans to invite male contestants who “will compete in various group and individual activities that will test their trust, reliability, and compatibility” with him.

Sounds a little too much like Paris Hilton’s upcoming show, no?

Ali Lohan’s New E! Series

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Cable, Gossip, Video,

On a day when we should be honoring our country’s fallen soldiers, E! will be celebrating its latest contribution to the reality genre: Living Lohan.

This memorial day, Ali Lohan will show us how bad styling choices can quickly age a 14-year-old girl.  We’ll also see why momma Dina so rightly deserved her recent “Top Mom” award.

In the following clip, we learn that Ali has lofty goals (“I aspire to be like my sister, Lindsay”), strong convictions (“I can’t sing a song I don’t believe in”) and the ability to learn from her sibling’s mistakes (“She’s taught me the things to do and not to do”).

premieres on May 26.

High School Musical 4 Already Being Planned

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Kids, Music, Cable, Gossip, News,

High School Musical, Zac Efron, Vanessa HudgensPlease don’t confuse this post with something we wrote earlier this month.  With production on High School Musical 3 just about underway, Disney has already moved on to its next project:  High School Musical 4.

The cable channel confirmed that they are already in scriptwriting mode for the franchise’s third sequel.  Although the current installment will be heading directly to the big screen, HSM4 will be another made-for-TV movie.  At least that’s what they’re saying now.

At this point, no cast has been announced for the latest venture.  (Most of the original actors have claimed they were done after three.)  But who knows - if Tori Spelling is willing to come back to the 90210 spinoff, anything can happen.

My theory? This is all connected to the summer reality series based on the musical.  At this point, no one seems to know what the ‘winners’ will be getting.  I’m guessing it’s their opportunity to be the latest Disney stars.

Another Divorce for Pamela Anderson?

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Gossip, Rumors,

Pam Anderson/ Rick SalomonIt all makes sense now.

Shortly after canceling her proposed reality series, Pamela Anderson filed for divorce from third hubby, .  The couple, who exchanged rings Oct. 6th, first starting dating after she ‘repaid’ a gambling debt.

Unfortunately has been known for her complicated relationships, and this marriage is no exception.  Although she submitted paperwork in Los Angeles Superior Court last Friday, she was spotted with Salomon just days after.  As of today, Anderson is telling fans via her website that they are “working things out.”

Working things out?  If this relationship drags out any longer, I’m gonna lose the money I put into the pool!

Latest Reality Show Features a Look at Monastery Life

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Reality, Cable, Cable/Satellite,

TLC logo TLC’s latest entry into the reality ring had me skeptical at the first mention. But after reading the synopses for the reality show The Monastery, I think this could be an interesting show. The Monastery will premiere on October 22nd and will show how living the monastic life can change five men’s lives. TLC General Manager David Abraham had this to say about the series: “The Monastery is a social, spiritual and learning experiment in which people experience the intensity of monastic life. The purpose is to expose people to the reality of unplugging from modern life completely and creating the opportunity to explore their lives in a contemplative environment.”

This strikes me as an interesting concept, if only to have a contrast to the reality shows (I’m thinking Real World) where contestants show up to some pimped out house to live their “reality” for a few months. The Monastery takes all of the material items out of the picture and gets people stripped down to a more simplistic way of living.
