CBS put forth very little effort last night, but still came away with two wins. Although it faced specials, originals, premieres and finales, the Eye network was on top with only repeats.

Mental's Chris Vance8pm

  • * (12.2 million, 2.2/7 in 18-49) easily won the hour.
  • NBC’s TV’s 50 Funniest Phrases (2.1/6) amused 6.6 million.

Tuesday Ratings: Idol Hits a New Low

Is American Idol starting to show its age? Or were viewers simply disinterested in the Kris/Adam battle? Whatever the reason, yesterday’s episode scored the lowest demos ever for a finale performance show.

  • 24 (FOX, 8pm):  Two-hour finale. “Jack reaches an emotional breaking point.” I would advise everyone to stay out of head-butting range from Bauer.
  • The Bachelorette (ABC, 9pm):  Season premiere. “Jillian Harris, the 29-year-old Canadian who was a runner-up for the heart of 2009 Bachelor Jason Mesnick, gets a new perspective on the rose ceremony.” She plans on being much more selective about those she jumps into hot tubs with hands stems to.

Tuesday Ratings: Sizable Numbers for Biggest Loser

Despite its position on a fourth place network, The Biggest Loser somehow manages to buck NBC’s ratings trend. Last night’s finale saw the program’s biggest audience since 2005. The reality show also had its best demos in 2 1/2 years.

  • Table for 12 (TLC, 9pm):  “Eric and Betty try to keep the kids busy when they’re all stuck at home on a school day.” I believe snow days is how they got their 10 kids to begin with.
  • Two and a Half Men (CBS, 9pm):  “Chelsea moves into the house, and Alan feels like he is being pushed out.” It was like that time when his best friend Andie started dating that guy named Blane.
  • New York Goes to Work (VH1, 10pm):  Series premiere.  “Viewers vote on which of the three jobs the long-time reality show veteran will take. If she impresses her employer, she’ll get a $5000 bonus. If she quits or fails, she’ll get nothing.” If she flames royally, will renew her contract.

Tuesday Ratings: Season Low for 90210

Has the update novelty already worn off? Although 90210 helped spawn a reboot of Melrose Place, the teen drama - already renewed for another season - is starting to show signs of weakness. Yesterday’s episode drew in its smallest audience to date.

Tuesday Ratings: DWTS Can’t Help The Unusuals

ABC, apparently not feeling the love from Cupid, decided to try out another struggling series last night. Unfortunately, The Unusuals failed to deliver as well. Although the the program did just as well as it did last Wednesday, it didn’t improve despite a better lead-in.
