Charlie Sheen‘s problems have followed him into the new year.

It was announced today that the actor will be taking a break from his hit CBS comedy to do a stint in rehab. This move comes not long after his wife, Brooke Mueller, entered a different location for substance abuse.

“As a preventative measure, Charlie Sheen has entered a rehabilitation facility,” Sheen’s rep, Stan Rosenfield, said in a statement. “He will take some time off his series . He has asked that his privacy be honored.  No further statements are planned.”

While it’s unclear specifically why Sheen is seeking treatment, he was the center of some domestic drama on Christmas Day. The 44-year-old has since been charged with two misdemeanors and felony menacing stemming from his fight with Mueller.

It’s not known how Charlie’s stay will affect production on his program.
