Could the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards be another year for firsts?
Around this same time last September, the execs of basic cable were thrilled to see one of their own finally win the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series (Mad Men). Meanwhile, producers of reality fare saw an award given to one of their hosts (Jeff Probst). So which other category could be covered during this round? Animation.
For the first time since 1961 (when The Flintstones were still on air), an animated program has been nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series. So will Family Guy finally go where The Simpsons has never gone before? Not if the six other contenders have anything to say about it!
So who won? Who lost? Which funnyman took home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor since Jeremy Piven wasn’t even nominated? Read our West Coast play-by-play account of this evening’s telecast and find out!

Steven Weber Returns to Television
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC
What’s your TV screen been lacking these days? If you’re like me, you may have been thinking Steven Weber. Then again, he’s probably not the first name to come to mind, but he’s welcome on my TV any day. Weber, if you recall, last starred on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, which while overrated, was no fault of his. Think back a bit further and you may recall him from the series Wings, one of those classic little sitcoms with the great ensemble cast. Incidentally, how amazing does Weber’s Wings co-star Tim Daly look on Private Practice? Put him in the “never ages” hall of fame with Rob Lowe! Huh…? Oh, sorry, just daydreaming a bit there. Back to Weber, who will next be seen on NBC’s comedy Zip—this show has been bumping along without a green light since last spring, but once Weber was signed on as single dad/con man Trip Stringer, the show got the go-ahead. He’s replacing Rob Huebel, who starred in the original pilot. And speaking of Rob Lowe territory, Weber will make a guest appearance on Brothers & Sisters this season.

Rob Lowe Pegs Bird While Golfing
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Gossip
I just had to comment on this Rob Lowe news because just a couple of days ago I was noting how this man never ages. I’ve been catching up on some DVR recordings of Brothers & Sisters and noted how great Lowe looks. I was a fan back in the St. Elmo’s Fire days, and not much has changed since. I dare you to find anyone better—male or female—that looks better than Rob Lowe on High Def! He’s certainly tapped into the fountain of youth, and he is magnificent on Brothers & Sisters. But anyway, enough about his smoldering good looks. Sigh… seems he’s got a killer golf game too. He was participating in a celebrity golf tournament in Iowa when he hit a passing bird during a shot on the fourth hole. He pegged the goldfinch and dropped the ball within 50 yards of the green. Of course, Lowe quipped, “That’s my birdie. That’s unbelievable. Who comes here and kills the state bird? Only me.” Gotta love him. Even if he is a bird killer.

Rob Lowe Extends Role on Brothers & Sisters
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Ratings
Great news for my favorite new show of the season. Rob Lowe, who was to guest star on a few episodes of Brothers & Sisters, will continue his stay for the rest of the season. The reason? You might guess that it’s his magical ability to never age (I mean, seriously, this guy looks fantastic). Well, perhaps that fountain of youth is responsible for the show’s highest ratings of the season. Lowe plays U.S. senator Robert McCallister, who appeared on Kitty Walker’s (Calista Flockhart) political talk show. She decided not to ask hard-hitting questions about the senator’s recent divorce in hopes that he would keep her brother Justin (Dave Annable) from having to be redeployed in the Army. He later went on to offer her a job on his campaign. While Lowe is listed as a special guest star, it’s rumored that he will appear in most of the 12 remaining episodes.

Rob Lowe Joins Brothers & Sisters
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC
As if ABC’s hit drama Brothers & Sisters couldn’t get any better—now Rob Lowe will be joining the cast. Okay, so it’s only for six episodes, but he will be a fantastic addition to the show. Having grown up on a steady diet of Rob Lowe, I’ve followed his career for awhile. And, is it just me, or does he never seem to age? It’s remarkable, really.
Anyway, back to Brothers & Sisters... Lowe has signed on to play a Republican U.S. senator who is going through a divorce while running for re-election in California. Of course, he and Kitty (Calista Flockhart) will meet up on her political TV show. Ba-da-bing, let the romantic sparks fly! Executive producer Jon Robin Baitz, wrote the role specifically for Lowe (and also wrote an episode of The West Wing). “He brings a maturity to the role on a show that’s about people who are no longer kids.” Baitz said.
