Anchors Aweigh for American Idol Contestant

It’s Tuesday, and time to look forward to another Beatles night on American Idol. But let’s not forget those who went before the Beatles story ever broke…or, at least let’s not forget one. Danny Noriega, who was surprisingly ousted just before making the Top 12, accepted the offer posed to him by Rosie O’Donnell. That’s right - maybe Danny’s singing the blues, but he’s doing it on a cruise. Shortly after Danny was booted from Idol, the former talk show host issued an invitation for him to join her on vacation with a guest, completely free of charge. At the time, I said he should jump at the chance. Happily, he did.
Rosie O’Donnell’s blog is alive with a video of Danny and his cousin coming aboard for fun in the sun and sea for one week with Rosie. How awesome does this trip sound? O’Donnell gushed to Noriega for a few moments, proclaiming her love, before the camera focused on others sharing the trip with them. He may not be on the Idol stage, but he’s on an awesome free trip with Rosie O’Donnell. Things could be a lot worse.

Rosie O’Donnell’s MSNBC Gig Falls Through

That was quick. Just a couple of days ago, I reported that Rosie O’Donnell was in negotiations with MSNBC for a prime time talk show. Now… not so much. And yet again, it’s Rosie’s big mouth that’s to blame. And yet again, it’s Rosie’s haiku blog that breaks the news: “We were close to a deal/ almost done/ i let it slip in miami/ causing panic on the studio end/ Well/ what can u do/ 2day there is no deal/ poof/ my career as a pundit is over/ b4 it began.” At a recent appearance in Miami, O’Donnell spilled the beans by revealing that she would be competing against “the guy with the suspenders and the long, long face” (Larry King). Seems that and her comment at a New York stand-up gig that she was “filming for an unidentified TV station” may have sealed her fate. Then again, Rosie has commented before that she doesn’t really need to work, so I’m sure she’s not too upset about how things turned out. I can just hear Donald Trump’s comments about what a pathetic failure Rosie is. Mark my words, he’ll be showing up on an entertainment news show any day now.

Rosie O’Donnell Joining MSNBC?

Rumors
Sounds like Rosie O’Donnell is turning lemons into lemonade since she left The View. The once nicey-nice daytime talk show host turned controversial table talker of The View is in negotiations with MSNBC to have her own talk show again. Could it be true? And if it is, will people tune in? If this is a go, she will host a prime time show opposite Larry King. Well heck, anything has to be better than Larry King, right? Not so fast… nothing is a done deal yet and in fact NBC is not confirming any details, nor is her rep commenting about the possible show. But Rosie did give a hint at a recent book signing, saying that her competition would soon be “the guy with the suspenders and the long, long face.” Do you think this show has a chance of getting off the ground? You’ll be able to catch O’Donnell on the small screen again as Dawn Budge on FX’s Nip/Tuck. And you may recall she came this close to landing the hosting gig on The Price is Right. Thankfully, Drew Carey was the big winner on that front.

Drew Carey Right for Price?
When Bob Barker left CBS’s Price is Right, the network started to scramble to fill his sizable shoes. Rumors abounded, names were tied to CBS, and everyone waited to see what would happen. Rosie O’Donnell turned the gig down, and Drew Carey emerged from obscurity to take the job. He did turn it down first, still tasting the bitter disappointment after his own show left the airwaves. CBS called back to woo Carey, a tactic that worked. Monday, Carey started his duties as the new host of Price.
In a recent interview, Carey stated, “This is a really good fit. I’m really comfortable here…” Well, I made it a point to watch Carey on Monday, and I am of a different opinion. The former Whose Line Is It Anyway? host seemed uncomfortable, nervous, and had difficulty controlling contestants. His jokes were dry, his chitchat vague, and his face bloated. But then, admittedly, I have never been a Drew Carey fan. I don’t think he’s funny...I think he just has a good knack for surrounding himself with terribly funny people.

Elizabeth Hasselbeck Forces Barry Manilow to Cancel

I’m not sure whether to consider this silly or hilarious...but I’m going with the latter.
Crooner Barry Manilow has apparently canceled a scheduled appearance on tomorrow’s episode of The View. The reason? A disagreement in politics. The Copacabana singer told TMZ that he considers conservative Elizabeth Hasselbeck to be ‘dangerous and offensive’. Although he’s currently on a promotional tour, he is refusing to ‘share the same stage as her’ because of their differences in opinions. It’s not clear why the gig was ever scheduled to begin with.
Any guess how long it will take Rosie O’Donnell to write a haiku about this?

In a veritable literary tug-of-war, Rosie O’Donnell and Donald Trump are calling attention to their public feud once more. This month, the news is that O’Donnell’s book gets personal, lashing out at Trump with insults that sound almost as clever as those heard on grade school playgrounds. Next month, the news will be focused on The Donald…when he adds fuel to the fire with his own new book. Just a reminder: we’re talking about two professional, career-minded, highly successful adults. O’Donnell’s insults include calling Trump a “slug” and mentioning his famous comb-over. Trump’s book, Think Big and Kick Ass, hits the shelves in October, and the Apprentice host has already stated he devoted some time to Rosie in the book.

Sherri Shepherd Newest Host for ‘The View’

As we reported back in July, Sherri Shepherd and Whoopi Goldberg were thought to be the leading contenders to join daytime’s The View. And while reported contract negotiations delayed Sherri’s official selection, Whoopi was introduced to fans on Tuesday.
But according to a new report in USA Today, fans of Shepherd will not have to wait much longer. As Barbara Walters mentioned on today’s show, the final host would be announced in just a few days. Hallelujah! A source reports to the newspaper that Shepherd, who has filled in many times as a guest host, will indeed be the one shifting to a permanent status.
Once the official announcement is made next Monday (September 10th), a collective sigh of relief will be heard around the country.

Whoopi—Rosie, Version 2?

So, it was Whoopi Goldberg’s first day as co-host of The View—you would think she’d lay low with controversial discussions… um, I don’t know… until the second or third day? Perhaps in an attempt to spice up the conversation a la prior hostess Rosie O’Donnell, Goldberg weighed in on the Michael Vick dogfighting issue. She came to his defense, saying that, in the South, where Vick is from, dogfighting is commonplace. According to Goldberg, “It’s like cockfighting in Puerto Rico. There are certain things that are indicative to certain parts of the country.” Now, while I understand this show is a platform for individual “views” (hence, the name), and it may be true that in the South this is not uncommon… I have to ask, isn’t there some shred of decency and common sense that might prevail over the need to fight dogs and kill them? I don’t think there’s much defense for anyone conducting this sort of business, and I have to question celebrities and professional athletes that have so much going for them and then do something stupid. Vick will be sentenced in December and has been suspended indefinitely by the National Football League.

‘The View’ To Announce Replacements

Rumors
For months now, our view of The View has been constantly changing. A long roster of guests have helped to help fill the seat once occupied by Star Jones Reynolds. And occasionally, Whoopi Goldberg has sat in the first seat left cold by Rosie O’Donnell.
The guessing game should end next week when producers are expected to announce permanent replacements. Frequent seat-warmer Sherri Shepherd is finally expected to move from contract to permanent status. (As many times as she has spilled her life story to those ladies, I would be incredibly upset if she did not get the gig). As for the other slot? That has Whoopi’s name written all over it. Apparently, this means all rumors of a possible gay counterpart will probably be squashed.
Unfortunately, ABC’s Human Resources Department will only be getting a quick break. Their job recruitment services will again be on demand soon when Elizabeth Hasselbeck goes on her maternity leave.

Renewals
NBC, the fourth-place station that’s willing to try anything to boost dismal ratings, will use celebs to tempt viewers into a new season of Trump’s The Apprentice. Rosie O’Donnell’s spokesperson has said Rosie will not be involved with the show – ever. The Apprentice will come back next year at mid-season with the winning celebrity donating their winnings to charity, instead of working for Trump. So, basically, it’s a huge waste of time for all parties, and just the latest terrible idea to come out of desperate-for-viewers NBC. The Apprentice was actually canceled…but seriously, what else has NBC got these days? So it’s back. And that’s that. Donald suggested extending the invitation to Rosie to join the cast, an idea that O’Donnell’s publicist shut down cold. Rosie is, however, in talks with NBC to consider doing another project. No celebs have yet been attached to this latest Apprentice project – yet, how could they resist the allure of appearing on the lowest-ranking network? Gee, I wonder how this new season of The Apprentice will do with fans.
