This Week on TV (12/1-12/7)

Barbara Walters and Tom Cruise

(You can view TV Envy’s Master Programming Schedule here.)
MONDAY 12/1)

  • Shrek the Halls (ABC, 8pm): Hopefully this Mike Myers laugher will help us all forget The Love Guru.
  • Inside the Actor’s Studio (Bravo, 8pm):  “Daniel Radcliffe, star of the Harry Potter film franchise, charts his career journey.” I’m not sure I want to see James Lipton enthusiastically talking about Radcliffe’s nude Broadway performance.
  • Heroes (NBC, 9pm):  “Ando, Sam and Frack try to restore Hiro’s memory with a comic book.” Any person trying to follow this series should be given an instruction manual.
  • Boston Legal (ABC, 10pm):  “When Denny receives bad news about the state of his Alzheimer’s, Alan goes before the Massachusetts Supreme Court to plead for access to an experimental drug that can help his condition.” Alzheimers? Maybe Shatner simply forgot why George Takei dislikes him so.

This Week on TV (11/24-11/30)

Michael Chiklis in The Shield

(You can view TV Envy’s Television Programming Schedule here.)
MONDAY (11/24)

  • Dancing with the Stars (ABC, 8pm):  After ten weeks, it all ends tonight. Sadly, I can’t even remember the names of the first two eliminated.
  • Samantha Who? (ABC, 9:30):  “Sam invites boyfriend Owen (James Tupper) for dinner to meet her parents, but Owen and Howard don’t hit it off.” Seems Howard doesn’t approve of his relationship with Anne Heche either.
  • Valkyrie: The Plot to Kill Hitler (History, 10pm):  “Recalling Operation Valkyrie, a failed plot devised by German officers to assassinate Adolf Hitler.” By choosing this documentary over the version, you’ll be able to save a few more bucks for Christmas.
  • The Hills (MTV, 10pm):  “Audrina confronts Lauren and Justin after rumors circulate that the two hooked up.” By “confront,” we mean Audrina has them refer to the television interviews she’s conducted on the topic.

Rosie O’Donnell Reaches Out to Ousted American Idol Contestant

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, FOX, American Idol, Gossip

Danny NoriegaJust last Thursday, Danny Noriega (of the great voice and somewhat flamboyant effeminate charm) failed to gather enough votes to keep him on - the door to his TV singing career closed. But on Friday, Rosie O’Donnell opened a window.

In a video blog post created the day after Noriega’s elimination, the former talk show host invited him to join her (and several famous friends) on a cruise. The offer includes a free cruise for him and a friend, which leaves from San Diego this Saturday to sail toward Puerto Vallarta. She’s requested him to sing “Tainted Love” with Cyndi Lauper, who will be allegedly also be on board. O’Donnell called him “bold and brave and beautiful” and ended her entry by imploring him again to join her.

This is a great deal. Free cruise, and he gets to meet Rosie O and Cyndi Lauper. If I were in Danny’s shoes, I would take the trip in a minute. If I were Rosie, I would probably try to use my celebrity status to meet my favorite Idols. But, as I am neither of them, I shall simply report upon these developments as they unfold. So, Danny…you going to take her offer, or what?

This Week on TV (1/14-1/20)

American Idol

(You can view the whole Revamped TV Programming Schedule here.)

MONDAY (1/14)

  • Prison Break (FOX, 8pm):  Season resumes.  “Michael suffers the consequences of solitary confinement, Sona-style.”  I hate to think we left him in there these past few months.
  • Kyle XY (ABC Family, 8pm):  Second season resumes.  “Kyle returns to the Tragers to tell them truth about his existence.”  Maybe should consider stealing this show to fill their schedule.  Otherwise, I’ll never get around to watching it.
  • Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (FOX, 9pm):  Regular day and time.  “John grows restless and sneaks out of the house to track down Charley Dixon.”  Maybe they should have recast .  He would have filled this punk role perfectly.
  • CSI: Miami (CBS, 10pm):  Actress guest-stars as Horatio’s ex and Kyle’s mother.  Wouldn’t it have made more sense if she was on the regular ?  Then they could have linked it back to her years.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck Forces Barry Manilow to Cancel

Barry ManilowI’m not sure whether to consider this silly or hilarious…but I’m going with the latter.

Crooner Barry Manilow has apparently canceled a scheduled appearance on tomorrow’s episode of .  The reason?  A disagreement in politics.  The Copacabana singer told TMZ that he considers conservative to be ‘dangerous and offensive’.  Although he’s currently on a promotional tour, he is refusing to ‘share the same stage as her’ because of their differences in opinions.  It’s not clear why the gig was ever scheduled to begin with.

Any guess how long it will take to write a haiku about this?

Trump and O’Donnell: The Battle of the Books

Rosie O'DonnellIn a veritable literary tug-of-war, and are calling attention to their public feud once more. This month, the news is that O’Donnell’s book gets personal, lashing out at Trump with insults that sound almost as clever as those heard on grade school playgrounds. Next month, the news will be focused on The Donald…when he adds fuel to the fire with his own new book. Just a reminder: we’re talking about two professional, career-minded, highly successful adults. O’Donnell’s insults include calling Trump a “slug” and mentioning his famous comb-over. Trump’s book, Think Big and Kick Ass, hits the shelves in October, and the Apprentice host has already stated he devoted some time to Rosie in the book.

‘The View’ To Announce Replacements

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, ABC, Rumors

The ViewFor months now, our view of The View has been constantly changing.  A long roster of guests have helped to help fill the seat once occupied by Star Jones Reynolds.  And occasionally, Whoopi Goldberg has sat in the first seat left cold by Rosie O’Donnell.

The guessing game should end next week when producers are expected to announce permanent replacements.  Frequent seat-warmer Sherri Shepherd is finally expected to move from contract to permanent status.  (As many times as she has spilled her life story to those ladies, I would be incredibly upset if she did not get the gig).  As for the other slot?  That has Whoopi’s name written all over it.  Apparently, this means all rumors of a possible gay counterpart will probably be squashed.

Unfortunately, ABC’s Human Resources Department will only be getting a quick break.  Their job recruitment services will again be on demand soon when goes on her maternity leave.

Could Roseanne Replace Rosie?

Rosie O'DonnellAfter Rosie O’Donnell’s announcement that she’ll be leaving The View, the rumor mills were buzzing about possible replacements. Potential candidates mentioned include Kathy Griffin, Joan Rivers, and Connie Chung, among others. Looks like we have a front runner though with Roseanne Barr, with many speculating that her outspoken demeanor would fill the void nicely. Roseanne responded to the gossip, saying, “I would love the chance to do that… I think I would do a real good job. I’d stir up some real good controversy.” I’m willing to bet after the dust settles when Rosie leaves that the producers (and head Viewmaster Barbara Walters) may just want to steer clear of controversy for awhile. After all, O’Donnell provided more than her fair share of that.

Rosie O’Donnell Announces Development Of Simply Sketch Comedy Series

Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Comedy, Cable, Talent

Rosie O'Donnell Simply SketchFantastic news for Rosie O’Donnell fans! The recent announcement from the Logo channel cheered fans who have been hoping for Rosie’s return to television ever since the cancellation of her popular daytime talk show. This is a real boon for the newly established Logo channel, and great news for many TV lovers.

MTV Networks’ gay-oriented Logo channel said Monday it partnered with Rosie O’Donnell to develop a sketch-comedy series.

The tentatively titled Simply Sketch, which will feature a cast of up-and-comers, will be filmed in front of a studio audience with taped segments of musical numbers as well as commercial and movie parodies incorporating political satire.

Logo—which targets lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender viewers—also said that episodes will feature guest appearances by celebrities and “friends of the LGBT community.” The show is slated to premiere later this year.

O’Donnell, who will serve as an executive producer, called the show “fresh and hilariously creative.”

Welcome back, Rosie!
