2009 Golden Globe Awards
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, Prime Time, Cable, HBO, NBC, News

One year after a strike-induced absence, the drinking resumed. Although the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards drew its usual set of followers tonight, this year’s program carried even more significance than usual. The reason? Heath Ledger.
With or without the Dark Knight nomination, the ceremony would have been interesting. Was this going to be the year a film about an Indian game show (Slumdog Millionaire) won top prize? Would either Meryl Streep (Mamma Mia, Doubt) or Kate Winslet (Revolutionary Road, The Reader) walk away with two awards? Could Mickey Rourke‘s comeback performance in The Wrestler earn him a surprise win over Sean Penn (Milk)?
To find out the answer to these questions (and many more), you can read our detailed coverage after the jump!

Casting Corner: Boston Legal, CSI: NY, House and More

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:
CSI: NY: To celebrate its 100th outing, CSI: NY will be doing it old-school Terminator style. In the sweeps episode, several guest stars - including Rumer Willis, Daughtry and Scott Wolf - will become targets of a serial killer. In the original Terminator, women named Sarah Connor became Arnold Schwarzenegger’s targets. This time around, the suspect is aiming to knock off those named Mac Taylor. (That would be the name of Gary Sinise’s character.) You can expect the star-studded episode to air on November 19.

Golden Globes Officially Canceled
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, NBC, Cancellations, News
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced today what most people have known for weeks: the Golden Globe Awards simply cannot go on as planned. Even though the WGA failed to grant the awards ceremony an interim deal, the show’s producers had still hoped they could somehow carry on. Unfortunately, the Screen Actors Guild put the final nail in the coffin last week. After being told their presentation would lack all nominees, the HFPA finally conceded.
Although there was hope for something a bit splashier, the awards show was officially scaled down from a three-hour gala to a one-hour press conference today. The dry presser - to be hosted live by NBC News - will air this Sunday @ 6pm PT. Why the news division? Well that’s because their writers work under a different contract.
While I’m sad I won’t get to see my faves in their finest, there is one good thing to come out of all this. Now we won’t have to see Rumer Willis in her awkward stint as the next Miss Golden Globe.
