Kings Pushed to NBC’s Summer Schedule

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, NBC

Kings' Ian McShane has just been banished from NBC’s regular schedule.

After several weeks of failed attempts in the Sunday 8:00 time slot, the Ian McShane vehicle was gently relocated to the network’s weekend calendar. Unfortunately, the freshman drama’s performance there still left a lot to be desired.

Effective immediately, NBC will air repeats of Law & Order: SVU, Southland and Law & Order on Saturday evenings. (Interesting side note: ‘s Thursday night spot was once owned by the bumped series.)

The remaining episodes of Kings are now scheduled to play out on Saturdays…in the summer. Make sure to adjust your DVRs between the weeks of June 13 and July 25.

Reaper castDid American Idol‘s return have you choosing between Hollywood and Beverly Hills? If so, CW might have just thrown you a bone.

But Reaper won’t just be sliding into ‘s old 9:00 time slot. That position will now belong to . It’s hoped the teen drama’s new home will allow it to be free of Idol‘s shadow.

Samantha Who Displaces Ugly Betty

Samantha Who

There’s nothing like a single dad to get things all messed up.

After delaying Samantha Who‘s January return for several weeks (expanded versions of The Bachelor have been doing quite well), ABC has decided to scratch their original midseason plans and start anew. Instead of putting Christina Applegate on hold, they have chosen to give America Ferrera a short vacation.

Women’s Murder Club Forces Change for Men in Trees

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, ABC, News, Renewals

Women's Murder ClubJust last month, I commented about the poor treatment Scrubs was receiving by its bosses at NBC.  Now I’m starting to feel just sorry as for ABC’s —and I don’t even watch the show!

Earlier today, the Alphabet network finally got around to picking a return date for freshman show .  What does this have to do with Trees?  Well, Club‘s three episode stint starting Tuesday, April 29th will not only force Boston Legal to find a new home elsewhere (Wednesdays @ 10pm starting April 30th), it will push Men in Trees off the calendar until….May 28th.  That means the program will essentially be left to find an audience during the small summer season.

Now if a network really wanted to hate a show, wouldn’t it be nicer if they just came right out and said it?  Seriously—how is anyone supposed to watch the series if they don’t know when it’s going to be on?  That’s Marketing 101, people!

The End of Super Sizing

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, NBC, The Office

The Office Okay, so NBC fired chief programming executive Kevin Reilly to bring in some new blood. The first order of business with the new regime? Getting rid of NBC’s signature “super-sized” episodes. Man, I love those—any time I can get a little bit extra of one of my favorite Thursday night comedies is good for me. Not so anymore, as it apparently isn’t a very effective gimmick these days—in the era of DVRs, these devices are confused by the quirky scheduling. NBC’s head of scheduling said, “It was a good idea when we started it. It was very novel. But it’s just not a good idea to have shows starting at 9:23 p.m. I don’t think anyone here thinks, at this point, super-sizing often is good for the shows. We’re going to do our best to not have to do it next year.” That said, they will still honor the plan for five hour long episodes of The Office. Well, at least we have that.
