Is T.R. Knight Leaving Grey’s Anatomy?

T.R. KnightAlthough it seemed like we had moved past the Isaiah Washington controversy and Katherine Heigl’s controversial remarks, the backstage drama at Grey’s Anatomy continues. Just over a month after Dr. Erica Hahn’s exit comes word of another possible Seattle Grace departure. This one being a voluntary one.

According to Entertainment Weekly, T.R. Knight (Dr. George O’Malley) has asked Shonda Rhimes to be released from the show - three years shy of his contract’s expiration date. This news comes after earlier rumors that Knight had been skipping table reads and had recently walked off the set during filming. (A source denied that ever happened.)

Is Grey’s Anatomy Abandoning Its Gay Storylines?

Grey's Anatomy's Callie and Erica

It looks like Dr. Hahn won’t be seeing much more than leaves on after this week. Despite the buildup to Erica’s moment of clarity with Callie last Thursday, actress Brooke Smith has been let go from the show. This shocking news comes just as Hahn’s relationship with Dr. Torres was reaching a new level.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Smith revealed that the announcement - delivered by Shonda Rhimes herself - was made last month. Ironically, Brooke was informed of her departure right after the “leaves” episode was filmed. Unfortunately, the reasoning being the casting decision has been raising a lot of speculation. (Even Patrick Dempsey seemed clueless on today’s episode of Ellen.)

Rumors of a Grey’s Anatomy Spinoff

Kate WalshAh, the good ‘ole television spinoff. The rumor mill was crazy today with news that Dr. Addison Montgomery-Shepherd could be getting her own Grey’s Anatomy spinoff. That’s cool, right? No, I mean I’m asking seriously. I don’t watch Grey’s Anatomy, so I don’t really know that much about the character. The reports I’ve read, however, seem to paint a favorable picture of the spinoff. Kate Walsh plays Addison, and she makes for some interesting television, so why not spinoff? There seem to be no firm plans yet regarding the plot, location or even the title for the series. ABC Television Studio has confirmed that the new series is in process, so I’m sure more details will be coming soon. To begin, Grey’s Anatomy will feature an upcoming two-hour Addison-heavy episode to see how it goes. The “run it up the flagpole approach,” it seems, will air during May sweeps. There has been no official comment from either Kate Walsh or creator Shonda Rhimes. No other characters are expected to move to the new show with the Addison character.
