Showtime has announced that the upcoming eighth season of Dexter will be the last for the popular series. The announcement came alongside the reveal that Dexter season 8 would begin on Sunday, June 30th. Showtime broke the news first on the Dexter Facebook fan page alongside a two-minute sneak peek where Dexter and Deb have a particularly intense conversation. If you haven't yet finished season 7, you'll wanna skip this one, since it has some pretty obvious spoilers in it. We've embedded the clip for you after the break.
What do you think of the news of Dexter coming to an end?

The United States of Tara will dissolve at the end of season 3 -- Showtime has pulled the plug. The cable network will renew Nurse Jackie, headlined by Edie Falco.
Jackie is averaging 2.8 million viewers, while Tara is down to less than 1 million. Toni Collette, the title star in Tara, has received three Emmy nods and one win while on the series. United States of Tara is currently playing out its last hurrah on Monday nights.

Only five episodes of The Borgias have aired so far, but Showtime has renewed the series for a second season.
The show is currently averaging 1.1 million viewers every week, big numbers for Showtime. The Borgias revolves around the scandalous family of the same name, led by Rodrigo Borgia, Pope Alexander VI (Jeremy Irons).

Showtime’s answer to the gap left by The Tudors debuted on Sunday night. The Borgias, touted by the cable channel as “the original crime family,” enjoyed a 100-minute premiere episode that packed in about as much corruption, sex and murder as any one show can handle.
Jeremy Irons is Spanish-born Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia, but after some clever scheming we were soon calling him Pope Alexander VI. His son Cesare Borgia (Francios Arnaud) is an unwilling cleric but able co-plotter, though his relationship with sister Lucrezia (Holliday Grainger) is incredibly suspect. Younger brother Juan (David Oakes) very much enjoys his soldier role, one that’s coveted by older brother Cesare… who seems far more skilled toward this end than toward his religious duties.

The Golden Globe contenders for the 2010-11 season were officially announced Tuesday morning in Beverly Hills by Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel and Blair Underwood.
Last year's Best Comedy Series winner, Glee, lead all television programs with a total of five nominations. Five series -- 30 Rock, Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, The Good Wife and Mad Men -- tied for second place with three nods each.
Here are some of the notable omissions/inclusions from this year's list of nominees:
- The Good Wife was the only non-cable series to be recognized for Best Drama.
- The Walking Dead replaced that other horror series (True Blood), giving AMC two nominations in the Drama category.
- The limitations of the Best Supporting Actor category meant only two acting noms for the cast of Modern Family.
- Jennifer Love Hewitt has found herself pitted against Claire Danes ... and Dame Judi Dench.
The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards -- hosted again by Ricky Gervais -- will air Jan. 16 on NBC.
