Adam Lambert Comes Out…Are You Surprised?

“I don’t think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear I’m gay,” Adam Lambert said in his highly-anticipated Rolling Stone interview. Really, it isn’t. After months of photos featuring a glammed-up Lambert in the company of beautiful men, the real shocker would have been hearing him say he’s straight.
“Right after the finale, I almost started talking about it to the reporters,” he explained. Lambert went on to say he decided to wait for Rolling Stone, and that’s exactly what he did.

American Idol 8: Finale!
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Video
Weeks of auditions, eliminations and memorable performances would finally culminate in a single evening of music and melodrama. Yes, it’s the finale of American Idol 8.
Various celebrities sat in the crowd as Ryan Seacrest warmed up the episode. Almost 100 million votes were logged after Tuesday’s performance round.
A montage of Randy Jackson clips served as the dog’s intro, he who, for reasons quite beyond me, wore a bow tie for the evening. Kara DioGuardi moments followed, and I never realized she had such a tendency to use the word “sweetie.” She looked great for the evening, at least. The same can’t be said for Paula Abdul, who wore a hideous ensemble. Her clip showed her saying a lot of words, the meanings of which she likely doesn’t understand. Simon Cowell’s video tribute was, of course, the most entertaining of all.
The host then introduced the two stars of the evening: Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. The judges stood up for the men as they took the stage. Each wore white; both looked very different. The sound equipment was hardly functioning when the two touched based with Seacrest.
A gaggle of girls stood in Conway, Arkansas (Kris Allen country) to hear the results. Carly Smithson reported from Symphony Hall (what a sad gig), where Lambert fans gathered to await the final vote count. But each camp would sit through many more video clips, performances, and general hoohah before they would find out what they most wanted to know: who won?

Adam Lambert vs. Kris Allen: American Idol’s Finale Face Off
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip

Who will win the American Idol crown? The question may be the same each May, but somehow the contestants are always vastly different. This year’s final two male finishers aren’t a bit like the David-David combination that became a staple of American Idol 7. So how do Adam Lambert and Kris Allen compare to each other?
Is it even possible to compare two such vastly different personalities? Lambert and Allen, this year’s Top 2, couldn’t be more contrasting.

Danny Gokey: From Musician to Model?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip
“I want to come out with a line of glasses,” Danny Gokey revealed after his third-place finish on American Idol. “I would really like to start a Danny line or a Gokey line.”
But why stop there? Gokey wants to try his hand at modeling those specs, too. “I would love to be an eyeglass model. I’m serious,” he added. “That would be so cool.”
Danny Gokey doesn’t seem too downtrodden about his elimination from the nation’s most popular reality show. In fact, he doesn’t seem all that concerned with music. “I would love to do anything glasses-wise,” he made sure to hammer the point home.
Well Danny, guess we’ll be seeing a lot of you in vision ads in the future (sorry about the pun).

American Idol 8: Top 3 Results
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip
Ben Stiller, of all people, opened the Top 3 results show of American Idol 8. This odd skit was a tribute to the judges’ table and featured some pretty good comedy from Stiller, SNL regular Will Forte and Simpsons cast member Hank Azaria. Jonah Hill, looking rather dapper with a short haircut, also had a few lines.
All of this, of course, was one long and boring promotion for Stiller’s new movie. Guess which movie company is behind that flick? …
Anyway, there would be many more promotions before the episode was over. Soon enough, Ryan Seacrest was standing on stage touting the fact that the Idol desk is going into the Smithsonian. Don’t get excited. This is just another cross-promotion. The name of the Stiller movie contains the word “Smithsonian,” and Freemantle is figuring they can use reality success to translate into more movie tickets for a sequel that probably won’t break box office records.

Simon Cowell Still Singing the Same Tune
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip

For many weeks, American Idol judge Simon Cowell has made no bones about throwing his support - and prediction - behind one standout competitor. Now that the contest is winding down and a winner will soon be declared, Cowell hasn’t changed a note of the song he’s been singing.
Idol’s famously critical judge is still supporting Adam Lambert. Just recently the judge appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show singing the crooner’s praises. “He’s got swagger,” Simon smiled. The judge has said many times that Lambert will win the contest.
And they way the judges, the media and the producers of the show have been pushing Adam all season, Simon Cowell will probably be proved right.

FOX Won’t Stop Believing in an After-Idol Smash

If you’ve paid any attention to FOX’s summer seasons, you know the network has had a fair bit of trouble finding a hit to put in place for Idol’s off season. So You Think You Can Dance was a rare win for the network, which has been looking for a similar summer reality hit for their mid-week lineup for several years.
And now, they’ve finally wised up and turned to a scripted series. In-between intense moments on American Idol, FOX has been running increasingly intriguing trailers for their musically-toned Glee. The first time I read a press release about this series, I sneered. Somewhere around the thirty-eighth promo, I started to smile. And now…I feel kinda gleeful about the premiere of Glee.

American Idol 8: Matt Giraud’s Peaceful Elimination
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip
“I never imagined myself the American Idol,” Matt Giraud admitted after his exit from the show Wednesday. “I was kind of at peace with the whole thing,” he said of ousting from the show, which occurred a mere two weeks after he was saved from the elimination noose by the new judges’ save.
Giraud is looking forward to joining the Idol tour this summer, and thinks perhaps he’ll start a band when all his roadwork is said and done. “Maybe something like The Fray,” he suggested. “I’d love to go in that direction.”

Jonas Premieres Tomorrow Night: Do You Care?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Kids, Music, Prime Time, Cable, Gossip
Disney’s Jonas, a sitcom starring the Jonas Brothers, is scheduled to premiere Saturday night. I know what you’re thinking: is it possible for Disney to squeeze in more televised coverage of this trio? Evidently, it is.
But I expect it to be a flop, and that’s not a commentary on their acting abilities. I’d like to present the evident which supports this theory: Disney-viewing kids are, first, already Jonas saturated. They’re also too busy keeping up with Hannah Montana re-runs to worry about that many new shows - and Disney’s summer schedule is always so chock-full of made-for-TV movies it’s hard to realize they actually have serialized programming still running. The Jonas Brothers have also already proved they don’t have Miley Cyrus-like clout, as their movie performed below expectations at the box office.
