Barbara Billingsley, Famous TV Mom, Dies

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, ABC, CBS, News, Video,

Barbara Billingsley, one of TV's legends, has died. Billingsley was better known to TV audiences as June Cleaver, the mom on Leave it to Beaver. That classic TV sitcom ran on CBS in 1957, then on ABC until 1963.

“People still talk about it and write letters, telling how much they watch it today with their children and grandchildren,” said Billingsley several years after the show had been canceled. Though it was still very popular in 1963, the show called it quits after the sixth season because the two youngest stars, Jerry Mathers and Tony Dow, wanted to move on. “We knew we were making a good show, because it was so well-written,” Billingsley stated in the same interview.

Review: Hot in Cleveland a Little Lukewarm

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, Cable, Gossip, Video,

TV Land’s highly-promoted comedy, Hot in Cleveland, premiered Wednesday night. The series has ‘s huge popularity, three more very respectable female comedy stars, and a gigantic marketing budget behind it. But did it deliver true TV heat?

The opening scene of the pilot introduced viewers to three great-looking, stylish women: Wendie Malick’s Victoria Chase, a former daytime TV star; Jane Leeves as Joy Scroggs, the “eyebrow queen of Beverly Hills” and ’s Melanie Moretti, book author.

The sequence began with a series of predictable, female-oriented jokes - age and looks, mainly - but Wendie Malick’s delivery made the scene more believable. The setup: three best friends going to Paris together for a couple of weeks of fun. They traded quips until Melanie (Bertinelli) had an unfortunate run-in on the airplane with her ex-husband, on his way to Paris with his new fiancée. More melodrama ensued when the plane ride became increasingly turbulent. As they began careening toward certain death, Victoria vowed to stop being vain, Melanie to stop being afraid and Joy to stop complaining. The plane landed safely in Cleveland, and that’s when the show really began.

Jon Heder/Will Ferrell Project Won’t Happen

The Blades of Glory duo won’t be making us laugh on Comedy Central after all.

(Napoleon Dynamite, School for Scoundrels) has dropped out of a planned sitcom on the cable network which is being produced by (just about every other funny movie made since 2002).

Very little info is being offered on the split, only this very ambiguous statement: “Comedy Central, Gary Sanchez Productions and Jon Heder have mutually decided to part ways over creative differences with the character. Jon wishes the show nothing but success, and is very grateful for the opportunity.”

Full House Remake an Empty Promise

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, ABC, Gossip, Rumors,

Full HouseFor those who squealed at recent rumors that the Tanners will be returning in a “semi-remake,” the next news might be tough.

An unnamed source has said that “we couldn’t make the deal.” According to gossip, (a.k.a. Uncle Jesse) himself was pitching the idea, but the source claims “it’s completely dead right now.”

That doesn’t sound too hopeful. Full House was a successful family-themed sitcom which currently resides in cable syndication. The series originally ran on ABC from 1987 to 1995, and launched the careers of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, the (who jointly portrayed youngest daughter Michelle Tanner).

But don’t give up just yet. According to the mysterious source, called an “insider,” the show “could happen in the future.” So could Soylent Green - but no one’s investing in it.

More TV, Less Singing For Britney Spears?

Posted by Jacci Lewis Categories: Music, Prime Time, CBS, NBC, Gossip,

Britney TVCould recovering pop wreck become a fixture on network television?

The New York Post reports that even though Spears is back in the studio working on a new album, her father/conservator Jamie is hoping she’ll phase out her music career and focus on television instead. (I think it is just smart business to accept that eventually people won’t want to see a 40-ish woman in a bustier gyrating to breathy dance songs. Wait a minute, Madonna still does it.  Never mind.)

A Spears insider told the Post’s Page Six that Jamie wants his daughter to have a more normal 9-5 job to keep her working and out of trouble. The Spears camp was well-pleased with her cameo on CBS’ . That appearance got the show its highest ratings ever. Set insiders say Spears was professional and friendly. They also say her comedic timing and ability to improv were surprisingly good. There is even talk Britney Spears may be asked back for another spot on How I Met Your Mother.

Kellie Pickler Given Sitcom

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Music, Prime Time, American Idol,

Kellie PicklerSay it ain’t so… but it is! Fox has announced that they are developing a sitcom for American Idol finalist Kellie Pickler. You may recall that the singer got plenty of screen time on Idol, putting her southern personality on display. I guess it was only a matter of time before a TV show came a-knockin’. The half-hour comedy won’t prove to be too much of a stretch, with Pickler playing a small-town Southern girl. The character will find out that her real father is the state’s governor, putting his plans for a presidential run in danger. Strangely enough—here’s where the comedy comes in—his new found daughter will help him in the polls. Chris Peterson and Bryan Moore (That ‘70s Show) are on board to write the new series.

Scrubs Comes to Comedy Central

Scrubs Great news for Scrubs fans everywhere—Comedy Central has acquired the NBC sitcom and will begin airing old episodes of the series on September 18th at 7:00 p.m. The network will show the sitcom weeknights and Saturday mornings. David Bernath, senior vice president of Comedy Central said, “We’re thrilled to have Scrubs join the network. It is a very funny show with a great cast. Not many off-network sitcoms fit our brand and this one fits perfectly.”

If you’ve never seen the series, now’s your time to jump on the bandwagon of one of the funniest little shows out there. Follow J.D. (Zach Braff) and the gang (including John C. McGinley, Sarah Chalke, and Donald Faison) as they experience love, loss, humiliation (and more) at the hospital where they work. The ensemble cast is fantastic; the stories funny, but often touching. Overall, a nice mix of drama and comedy.
