If you’re anything like me, the is painful waste of your time. The ceremony is only a step above the People’s Choice Awards (thanks to the caliber of celebrities), but equally as credible.

That said, Andy Samberg’s performance - and Bruno’s encounter with Eminem - made this year’s broadcast slightly easier to swallow. After watching him spoof several of the year’s most popular films (Twilight, Star Trek, Slumdog Millionaire, The Reader), check out Andy’s musical commentary on explosions after the jump.

Slumdog Millionaire Actor Gets Role on 24

Anil KapoorAlthough most of the recent attention has been focused on Freida Pinto, another Slumdog Milionaire star has just been cast in a high-profile project.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Anil Kapoor - the “host” of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? - will be joining the cast of 24 next fall. (Kiefer Sutherland just announced that he would be around for a Season 8.) The 49-year-old Indian actor is scheduled to play a Middle Eastern leader in America on a peacemaking mission.

Production on Day 8 starts next month.

Last January, the Screen Actors Guild Awards was considered a pleasant distraction from all the writers’ strike business. Since the actors now face their own work stoppage, this year’s event once again served as a nice diversion.

With the Academy Awards less than a month away, tonight’s ceremony gave us a better idea of how that broadcast might pan out. Was Kate Winslet another double-winner this evening? Slumdog Breathes New Life Into Millionaire Game Show

Next month’s Oscars broadcast may benefit ABC in more ways than one. A potential win for Slumdog Millionaire in February could bring heightened interest to the network’s summer schedule. That’s when may briefly return.

According to TV Week, ABC had already been considering a 10th anniversary-run for the game show. (The program debuted back on August 16, 1999.) Now the movie about a contestant on an Indian version of Millionaire would make the decision even more timely. The current economic climate could also help as well. Viewers - like those in the Golden Globe winner - may root for someone on hard times.

Although he is not confirmed for the gig at this point, it’s expected would be part of any Millionaire return.

2009 Golden Globe Awards

One year after a strike-induced absence, the drinking resumed. Although the drew its usual set of followers tonight, this year’s program carried even more significance than usual. The reason? Heath Ledger.

With or without the Dark Knight nomination, the ceremony would have been interesting. Was this going to be the year a film about an Indian game show (Slumdog Millionaire) won top prize? Would either Meryl Streep (Mamma Mia, Doubt) or Kate Winslet (Revolutionary Road, The Reader) walk away with two awards? Could ‘s comeback performance in The Wrestler earn him a surprise win over Sean Penn (Milk)?
