Daytime Dish: General Hospital Milking James Franco
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, ABC, General Hospital, Gossip
James Franco recently held his own with Sean Penn—but how will he fare against actor Steve Burton?
Although he’ll be a long way from Hollywood, the Milk star has has scheduled a trip to Port Charles. Yes, that’s right—Franco will be appearing on General Hospital.
While ABC would have been smart to ask any Golden Globe winner to guest during sweeps, the 31-year-old was actually the one who approached the soap opera. According to a source, James simply wanted to dabble in daytime dramas.
Of course, Franco’s interest couldn’t make the showrunners any happier. “We are thrilled to announce that James Franco will play an integral part in a lengthy run on General Hospital this fall,” Jill Farren Phelps, the show’s executive producer, said. “It’s an honor that an actor of James’ caliber would choose to spend some of his valuable time in Port Charles.”
Franco’s mystery man character will first enter Jason Morgan’s life on November 20. He’s currently scheduled to stick around for approximately two months.

Daytime Dish: Marlena and John Cut from Days of Our Lives
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Drama, NBC, News

One of daytime’s popular soaps has just been hit with two of the most dreaded words today: budget cuts.
In hopes of keeping Days of Our Lives up and running for at least another 18 months, the sudser’s producers have been forced to make a few difficult decisions. Unfortunately for fans, that means saying goodbye to two of the show’s longest-running characters: Marlena Evans and John Black.
Despite some work on other projects, actress Deidre Hall has been with the 43-year-old NBC program since 1976. Her on-and-off daytime husband, Drake Hogestyn, joined DOOL back in 1986.

Daytime Dish: Vincent Pastore Comes to General Hospital
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, ABC, General Hospital, The Sopranos, News
If you’re still trying to recover from the loss of The Sopranos, you might be able to satisfy some of your mobster cravings with a little General Hospital. Later this fall, Port Charles will welcoming one more criminal into its borders. Actor Vincent Pastore will be transitioning from his years in New Jersey to become the latest gangster in the New York town.
Vincent will play Maximus Giambetti, a mobster whose two sons, Max and Milo, currently work for Sonny Corinthos. He comes into town mistakenly believing Max Jr. is the head of operations in the area. He will then, of course, find out that his boys are only bodyguards. (I envision some tasty scenes with Diane trying to defend her loyal beau.)
Look for Pastore to enter the scene in October.

Genie Francis Returning to General Hospital
Posted by Jacci Lewis Categories: Daytime, Drama, ABC, General Hospital, Announcements, News
Genie Francis, one half of daytime’s famed duo ‘Luke and Laura’, is returning to General Hospital, albeit briefly.
Francis will reprise her role as “Laura"on the ABC soap beginning August 26. Francis told the Associated Press the stint will be short and will deal mainly with her relationship with daughter Lulu Spencer (played by Emmy-nominated actress Julie Marie Berman). Genie Francis also indicated that she would resurrect her role as Laura on a more permanent basis if offered. “I would stay on, but General Hospital honestly doesn’t seem to want that relationship with this character at the moment. They want little short doses during sweeps periods. It’s not entirely up to me. I’m thrilled and delighted my audience stands behind me. If they didn’t, you can be sure I wouldn’t get to come back for these visits.”

Daytime Dish: Antonio Sabato Jr. Returns to General Hospital
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Prime Time, ABC, Cable, General Hospital, Gossip, Renewals
Since he recently jumped into the celebrities-as-talent pool, this announcement really doesn’t come as a big surprise. After 13 years away, Antonio Sabato Jr. is returning to the fictional city that made him famous: Port Charles.
Starting in July, the Celebrity Circus contender can be seen on General Hospital: Night Shift, SOAPnet’s spinoff of the ABC hit sudser. For the program’s second season, Antonio will once again play Jagger Cates, a role he originated back in the early 90’s. It was around that same time that both Sonny Corinthos and Miguel Morez (a long-haired Ricky Martin) entered the scene.
Those who can clearly remember watching GH during that time probably recall that Jagger Cates was Stone Cates’ brother. Stone Cates being, of course, Robin Scorpio’s first love. (He died after suffering from AIDS.) Jagger’s presence will surely affect an emotional Robin, who is now pregnant with Patrick Drake’s baby.

One Life To Live: 40 and Fabulous
For most people who watch soap operas, the shows you follow are sort of like religion: you are usually exposed by a parent when you are young and you usually go through a period in your life (or several, for that matter) when you lose your faith. When I was a child, my mother (the most interesting person I know, by the way) watched General Hospital and One Life To Live. And so I started watching those two ABC soaps. In fact I remember some summers when I was 11 or 12 where my whole day centered around catching the latest news from Llanview or Port Charles. (This is a fact I find extremely disturbing now that I am an adult and parent of two small daughters.)

Daytime Dish: Snoop Dogg Visits One Life to Live
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Music, ABC
If celebs need to get themselves seen, they may want to start hitting up the hot spots in Llanview.
Over the past few months, One Life to Live has seen a score of musical performers travel through its Pennsylvanian town. Last October, Timbaland hit the stage at Capricorn, a hip night club on the show. One month ago, Mary J. Blige performed during two episodes of the daytime drama. Now it’s Snoop’s chance to bring the house down.
The star of Father Hood will take the mike during the next sweeps period. Snoop Dogg will perform several songs from his new album in another two-day stint. The rapper will also serve up his own treatment of OLTL‘s opening theme and lend his acting skills to the ABC soap.
You can check out Snoop’s gig at Ultra Violet on May 8th and 9th.
