Sweet! Top Chef Does Desserts

Bravo has recently picked up a Top Chef spin-off, titled Top Chef: Just Desserts. Casting is underway, and the show is expected to air in 2010 after production wraps.
Though Top Chef offers great reality TV fare, desserts aren’t often on the menu. “Their Achilles heel is usually the desserts,” Frances Berwick, Bravo executive Vice President and general manager, admitted. “We’ve been thinking it would be fun to do a Top Chef with experienced pastry chefs. We’ve had a few pastry chefs…but they haven’t gone too far. It’s just a different skill.”
One that will finally have its own Top Chef spotlight, apparently. No hosts or judges for the show have been revealed, but it’s all supposed to come together in upcoming weeks.

So far, three names have already been confirmed for CBS’ latest hour of crime. Louise Lombard (CSI), the series’ lead female, will star as a a former major in the military police. Notes from the Underbelly‘s Peter Cambor has been cast as an operational psychologist while Daniela Ruah will play a young investigator with a degree in forensics and criminology.
Two well-known actors are also in talks for the other leads. Chris O’Donnell (Batman & Robin) is currently negotiating for the role of Callen, a “chameleon” who can easily transform into different identities. Spinoff News: Gossip Girl, The L Word, NCIS
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Cable, CBS, Showtime, The CW, Gossip, News, Spoilers
Gossip Girl: Apparently when executive producer Josh Schwartz said back in June that there were “no plans for spinoff at this moment,” what he really meant was: “We aren’t planning anything for Jenny Humphrey.”
After months of speculation, CW finally announced that they will be creating a backdoor pilot for what could possibly be a Gossip Girl spinoff. (This would be similar to what Shonda Rhimes did with Private Practice.) If the test run is successful, the new series would not involve any actors from the sophomore show, nor would it even be located in New York.

Grant Show on Melrose Place Spin-Off
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, The CW, Gossip
In a recent interview with TV Guide, former Melrose Placer Grant Show talked about the possibility of returning for the planned spin-off.
The success of 90210 has unleashed a lot of speculation and a ton of hope. If one show can be recycled and find success, why not another? Now, it seems Melrose Place (the slick show which was once featured in a two-hour programming block with Beverly Hills, 90210) will soon make its triumphant return to TV. But…that doesn’t mean the cast members will do the same. See what Show had to say about the series after the jump.

90210 to Explore Teen Pregnancy?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Prime Time, The CW, Gossip, Rumors, Spoilers

UPDATE: If you’d like to find out the name of the potentially pregnant character, click here.
Rumor has it that story lines are going to get even more complex on 90210, The CW’s Beverly Hills spin-off.
According to gossip, an already-troubled character will have a new problem added to the mix: an unexpected baby. Insiders say the show will aim to deal with issues that both teens and adults can relate to, somewhat in the way the original used to tackle its subjects. One source even says the new episodes are “getting better.”
Since they promise to contain scenes with original BH cast members like Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth, I have no doubt this part of the rumor is the truth. As to the other stuff…we’ll just have to wait and see.

Today her face graces magazine covers and the entertainment media is holding its breath to see the star re-emerge in her most famous role. After fading to the background of relative obscurity for the last decade, Shannen Doherty is suddenly very prominently in the spotlight.
“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel it,” said Doherty, 37, of her newfound popularity with the press. “It definitely feels good. It also feels scary.” When asked about this scary success, Doherty explained, “who wants to talk about stuff they did fifteen years ago?”

Meet the Browns Retooled for Television
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, Cable, News
Tyler Perry has just hit the trifecta.
Meet the Browns, the 2008 movie that originated as a play, is now being reworked as a series for TBS.
In the comedy, David Mann and Tamela J. Mann (a real-life couple) will both reprise the characters they played on the big-screen. Although the spinoff’s concept is still be worked out, the show will revolve around a number of residents in a boarding house. The old home was something that was inherited by David (Leroy Brown) from his father.
This isn’t the first time the writer/producer/director/actor has worked on something for the small screen. In 2006, TBS ordered 10 episodes of House of Payne for its network. When the show proved successful, another 90-episode order was made. This is the strategy that will once again be implemented for Browns. If things go well with the program’s run in January, another 90 could start airing as soon as next summer.
In the meantime, Perry’s next project, The Family That Preys, will hit theaters on September 12.

Drama at Sober Living
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Cable, Gossip, News

Although the show hasn’t finished filming yet, VH1’s Sober Living already promises to be an interesting watch.
Last month, we told you about the cable channel’s plans to produce a spinoff of Celebrity Rehab. On the new program, several recovering addicts would live in the same home while trying to get their lives back together. Unfortunately, we’ve already learned of one guest who has experienced a setback. We’ve also heard rumors of a guest who probably hasn’t been rehabbed yet.

Amy Poehler to Star in Office Spinoff
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Late Night, Prime Time, NBC, Saturday Night Live, The Office, News
In the past few years, fans of the creatively-uneven Saturday Night Live have seen several great female members leave. First there was Tina Fey, then Maya Rudolph. Now it looks as if Lorne Michaels will soon have another void to fill.
Earlier today, Amy Poehler confirmed to the Associated Press that she too will become part of NBC’s primetime programming. The comedienne, who was just nominated for her SNL work, is set to star in the spinoff of The Office.
The 36-year-old, who is currently pregnant with her first child, could not or would not provide any details about her new role. Aside from the hiring of Aziz Ansari last month, not much is known about the show. It’s actually now being reported that the comedy will not be a spinoff after all; it may instead be a stand-alone series.
When Poehler will depart from the late-night program is not clear at this point. The comedienne says she intends to stay on through at least the elections. After that time, fans can see Amy in her new NBC project when it airs Thursdays @ 9:30 p.m. this winter.

Sober Living: Possible Celebrity Rehab Spinoff?
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Cable, Rumors

It’s one thing to get clean, it’s another thing to stay clean.
According to the New York Post, VH1 could soon be inviting more controversy to its channel. The network - which just wrapped filming on its second season of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew - may begin production on a spinoff as soon as next week.
If the rumored project is given the greenlight, we could see several of Dr. Drew Pinsky’s former patients reunited Real World style. In Sober Living, the recovering addicts would live in one home for 30 days while trying to piece their lives and careers back together. (Could this be why Dr. Drew had a ‘Celebrity Addiction’ special recently? Probably.) Those supposedly approached for the new series include Seth “Shifty” Binzer (Season 1), rocker Steven Adler (Season 2) and model Amber Smith (Season 2).
Until then, you can expect the next round of counseling sessions to begin when Celebrity Rehab returns on August 4 sometime this October.
