Quote of the Day: Spartacus’ Lucy Lawless on Sex Scenes, Nudity

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Action, Drama, Prime Time, Cable, Gossip,

Lucy Lawless in Spartacus

"Funnily enough, no. You’re taped up and anatomically incorrect – there’s no accidental sex happening on set, but all the same, it’s really exposing. Especially for the women. I think females are hardwired to protect that side of yourself, so that has never gotten easier. But nudity becomes easier. You just don’t notice it after a while, but sex – no. And not one actor has come in and found it a breeze."

-Spartacus: Gods of the Arena's on whether sex scenes get easier with time.

2011 Golden Globe Nominations (TV)

Boardwalk Empire

The Golden Globe contenders for the 2010-11 season were officially announced Tuesday morning in Beverly Hills by Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel and Blair Underwood.

Last year's Best Comedy Series winner, Glee, lead all television programs with a total of five nominations. Five series -- 30 Rock, Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, The Good Wife and Mad Men -- tied for second place with three nods each.

Here are some of the notable omissions/inclusions from this year's list of nominees:

  • The Good Wife was the only non-cable series to be recognized for Best Drama.
  • The Walking Dead replaced that other horror series (True Blood), giving AMC two nominations in the Drama category.
  • The limitations of the Best Supporting Actor category meant only two acting noms for the cast of Modern Family.
  • Jennifer Love Hewitt has found herself pitted against Claire Danes ... and Dame Judi Dench.

The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards -- hosted again by Ricky Gervais -- will air Jan. 16 on NBC.

First Look at Spartacus: Gods of the Arena

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Action, Drama, Prime Time, Cable, Video,

Although Starz has not yet named the actor who will become their next Spartacus, the network is ready to unveil their newest gladiator series.

When lead Andy Whitfield first announced that he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Starz execs made the decision to develop a Spartacus: Blood and Sand prequel while the actor received treatment. (Whitfield -- who was expected to return for Season 2 -- has since dropped out of the program altogether due to a recurrence of his cancer.)

Although it is unclear when Blood and Sand will return for Season 2, it appears Spartacus: Gods of the Arena -- featuring John Hannah (Batiatus) and Lucy Lawless (Lucretia) -- will have enough stadium and bedroom action to keep you occupied until then.

Gods of the Arena debuts on January 21.

Andy Whitfield in Spartacus

UPDATE: Starz has decided to recast the lead role.

Andy Whitfield’s long-anticipated return to has been canceled altogether.

The actor, who was diagnosed back in March with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, had already been training for Season 2 of the Starz series. Although he was given a clean bill of health back in June, a recurrence of cancer will now require “aggressive treatment.”

“It’s with a deep sense of disappointment that I must step aside from such an exceptional project as Spartacus‚ and all the wonderful people involved,” Whitfield, who played the title character, said in a statement. “It seems that it is time for myself and my family to embark on another extraordinary journey.
