24 Production Temporarily Halted for Sutherland Surgery
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Action, Drama, Prime Time, FOX, 24, News,
On 24, Jack Bauer can take a beating yet still complete his mission on time. In real life, Kiefer Sutherland needs a bit more recovery time.
Due to a ruptured cyst near the actor’s kidneys, filming on his series has been briefly shut down while Sutherland undergoes minor surgery. The incident, which occurred early last week, should have minor impact on the show’s production schedule.
“We are temporarily suspending production of 24 while our friend and colleague Kiefer Sutherland undergoes a medical procedure,” FOX execs said in a statement. “We hope to resume production shortly and do not anticipate any disruption in the broadcast of this season’s episodes.”
“While Kiefer Sutherland is frustrated to miss even one day of work, he and FOX decided together that it would be best to complete this minor elective procedure now as a precaution as opposed to six weeks from now when production wraps,” the 43-year-old’s rep added. “He looks forward to returning to work (this) week.”

Maura Tierney Surgery Forces Delay of NBC’s Parenthood
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, NBC, Gossip, News,
Jay Leno’s new show won’t be the only reason why NBC’s had to reshuffle this fall. A new series based on the 1998 movie Parenthood is now being delayed due to a medical situation.
On Friday, the network announced that the program was being pushed to midseason because of “medical evaluation” that actress Maura Tierney was undergoing. Although NBC could not elaborate on the situation, the execs revealed that production would be delayed eight weeks.
Today, the ER star chose to open up about the matter. “In an effort to guard my privacy, it seems that the wording of NBC’s press release has unfortunately caused some confusion and undue alarm about my health. I have discovered a tumor in my breast which requires surgery. I will not know either my exact diagnosis or course of treatment until that surgery is performed. My doctors have all assured me this is a very treatable condition. I’m very optimistic as to the outcome and want to thank everyone who has sent positive thoughts and support. I look forward to going back to work soon,” her statement read.
Parenthood - which also features Peter Krause, Erika Christensen, Dax Shepard, Craig T. Nelson and Bonnie Bedelia - was scheduled to debut on September 23. It’s believed medical drama Mercy will now take its place.

DWTS’ Julianne Hough Scheduled for Surgery

The curse of the parquet floor has struck again.
Despite being only halfway over, the seventh season of Dancing with the Stars has already seen more than its share of medical emergencies. So far this fall, we’ve seen Jeffrey Ross with an eye patch, Susan Lucci with an ankle wrap and Misty May-Treanor with a seat on the sidelines. Now one of the show’s professionals is going to be added to the injury list.
One week after being checked out for stomach issues, we’re learning the real reason behind Julianne Hough’s trip to the hospital. Although her evaluation was initially downplayed, it turns out the country singer - who was discovered to have endometriosis - will actually need to have her appendix removed.
Fortunately, the 20-year-old has a common medical condition that is found in 5-10% of women of reproductive age. Those diagnosed with endometriosis experience a development of uterine-lining tissue outside the uterus on the surfaces of organs in the pelvis or abdomen where they are not supposed to grow.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy‘s return to the ballroom has just been cut short.
According to Access Hollywood, Olympic volleyball player Misty May-Treanor has officially been sidelined from the Dancing with the Stars. The athlete apparently suffered an injury that will require surgery.
It’s unclear at this point whether the injury was a result of something she did on the dance floor or the volleyball court. The gold medalist had been simultaneously competing on the AVP volleyball tour while rehearsing for the reality show.

Nearly four weeks after an his on-camera injury, actor Cristián de la Fuente is finally getting a chance to rest his arm. Back on April 28, the Dancing with the Stars finalist ruptured a tendon while dancing the Samba with his partner Cheryl Burke. Although it was determined he would need to have surgery, his doctors allowed him to continue on with the competition.
Surprisingly, despite his limited range of motion, the telenovela star rebounded with more focused performances and higher scores. Unfortunately, his inability to carry off more dazzling lifts - and Kristi’s undeniable skill - kept him from snagging the mirrored ball trophy in the end.

Chalk up another one for Cedars-Sinai..
The LA hospital welcomed another celebrity today when High School Musical star Zac Efron was admitted to the hospital. The 20-year-old was apparently suffering from a case of appendicitis. According to his rep, the actor has since had his surgery and is now recuperating. (Maybe Vanessa Hudgens can shoot a few new photos to keep him company?)
Efron, who has already been confirmed for the big-screen version of High School Musical 3, is currently shooting the Freaky Friday-esque comedy, Seventeen.

Michael Jackson Makes Another Wacko Appearance
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Gossip, Rumors,
Lifelong pop superstar Michael Jackson has recently been spotted sporting a face covered with bandages. I know, big deal, right? The man’s gone under the knife more times than his albums have gone platinum, but in this case the Jackson camp is remaining tight-lipped regarding Jacko’s coverings.
Michael was seen covered in gauze (I mean, completely) while shopping in Las Vegas - an odd act that for Jackson is hardly even considered weird. I mean, we’ve seen worse, right? But Jackson’s rep can give no answers as to why the star is keeping his face incognito, saying that Jackson hasn’t had any surgical procedures lately.
What, you mean there isn’t a plastic surgeon on site at Neverland Ranch? That’s the most surprising Jackson news of all.
