Oprah Snags Sarah Palin Interview

Oh what a difference a year makes.
Two of the biggest female names of 2008 will finally be sitting down for a chat in 2009. Mark your calendars: November 16 will be the date Sarah Palin has her first one-on-one with Oprah Winfrey.
Before last November’s elections, Oprah - who publicly endorsed Barack Obama - had been accused of showing favoritism because she chose not to welcome the VP candidate on her show. Winfrey’s reason? She didn’t want to use her program as a political platform. (Although President Obama had been a guest on her program, his appearances came before he decided to run for office.) Unfortunately, Oprah’s explanation didn’t satisfy many of her female fans.

Tyson and Holyfield to Reunite in Oprah’s Ring
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, Syndication, Oprah Winfrey Show, Gossip, Video
Oprah Winfrey really knows how to milk her ratings cows. Recently, we’ve seen her interviews with Whitney Houston and Mackenzie Phillips stretch out over two separate hours. Now, Mike Tyson is getting his Round 2.
This Friday, the former heavyweight champion will be sharing the stage with a very special guest: Evander Holyfield. Yes, that would be the same boxer Tyson bit - twice - during their June 1997 fight.

Mad Men Featured on ‘60s-Themed Oprah
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Drama, Talk Shows, Cable, Syndication, Oprah Winfrey Show

Could Oprah Winfrey do for Mad Men what she does for books?
This coming Monday, the talk show hostess and her upswept hair will dedicate the entire broadcast to a particular decade. The show, entitled “Oprah Goes Back in Time: The 60s,” will include appearances from both January Jones and Jon Hamm.
The hour will also feature items that would have been Winfrey’s favorite during that time. (I’m guessing the audience won’t want any of those freebies.)
Maybe Oprah could have Dr. Phil talk to Don Draper about his daddy issues and extramarital affairs?

Oprah News: Dr. Oz, 30 Rock
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Daytime, Prime Time, Talk Shows, NBC, Syndication, Oprah Winfrey Show, Gossip, News
Being one of Oprah‘s friends definitely has its benefits.
Since the talk show queen was instrumental in getting both Dr. Phil and Rachel Ray their own shows, you knew it was just a matter of time before she moved on to her next pet project. This time, she’ll be responsible for making us sick of Dr. Mehmet Oz.
Up until now, I’ve really liked the doctor. The 47-year-old frequent contributor is very much like that McGraw guy; he tells it like it is. And guests aren’t afraid to ask him their most embarrassing questions because he’s pleasantly non-judgmental. (Remember when he hosted that males-only show solo?) But as likable as the medical expert is, could we tolerate seeing him on a regular basis?
Word has it the latest talk show competitor will hit the airwaves come Fall 2009. Start prepping your medical questions now.

Oprah Being Sued by Audience Member
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, Syndication, Oprah Winfrey Show, Gossip
When I first read that an audience member at one of Oprah‘s tapings was going to sue Winfrey, it immediately brought to mind those Saturday Night Live sketches where the women are going crazy and fainting because of Oprah’s giveaways. Seems the reason for this lawsuit is that the woman allegedly was injured during the stampede that occurred while trying to find a seat for the show’s taping.
Tayna Milner’s lawsuit says that the studio did not control the crowd properly, resulting in Milner being pushed down the stairs and suffering injuries on April 11th. She is seeking more than $50,000 in damages from Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Studios.

Oprah Pays it Forward—With Debit Cards
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, Syndication
Ever the gift-giver, Oprah gave the audience of Monday’s show something a little bit different. Each member of the audience received a $1,000 debit card. But here’s the catch—each person must donate that money in some way to someone else. While it’s not a car or extravagant gift, the debit cards are, as she puts it, the “gift of giving back.” The 300 audience members received the cards, sponsored by Bank of America, to donate to the charity of their choice. “I can honestly say that every gift I’ve ever given has brought at least as much happiness to me as it has to the person I’ve given it to,” Oprah said. “That’s the feeling I want to pass on to you.”
To keep people honest, they are not allowed to give the money to a relative, but they can divide it among several charities. They also received a DVD recorder for taping the experience of donating their money. The stories will air on a future show. Oprah told her audience, “You’re going to open your hearts, you’re going to be really creative, and you’re going to spend it all at once on one stranger or spend a dollar on every person. Imagine the love and kindness you can spread with $1,000.”
