The Search for the Next Elvira… Really?
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Prime Time, Reality, FOX
Ah, remember Elvira, Mistress of the Dark? She was the perfect mix of cheesy, campy and goth. Looks like Fox is ready to bring her back, with a new reality series called The Search for the Next Elvira. Even by reality show standards, this seems like a stretch. Is finding the next Elvira going to fill some kind of void in our lives? She had her place in the 80s, but doesn’t seem like people are going to be all that jazzed to find her replacement. The original Mistress of the Dark, Cassandra Peterson, is looking for “a surrogate handmaiden with whom to share her personal appearance duties.” Wow, who knew she had so many appearances to fulfill that she needed an understudy? If you dare to watch this one, the series will include 13 contestants competing for the coveted Mistress crown. Beginning October 13th, three episodes will air, with viewers casting their vote for their favorite Elvira. The finale will air live on Halloween night. Spooky!
