Daytime Dish: Vincent Pastore Comes to General Hospital
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, ABC, General Hospital, The Sopranos, News
If you’re still trying to recover from the loss of The Sopranos, you might be able to satisfy some of your mobster cravings with a little General Hospital. Later this fall, Port Charles will welcoming one more criminal into its borders. Actor Vincent Pastore will be transitioning from his years in New Jersey to become the latest gangster in the New York town.
Vincent will play Maximus Giambetti, a mobster whose two sons, Max and Milo, currently work for Sonny Corinthos. He comes into town mistakenly believing Max Jr. is the head of operations in the area. He will then, of course, find out that his boys are only bodyguards. (I envision some tasty scenes with Diane trying to defend her loyal beau.)
Look for Pastore to enter the scene in October.

2008 Screen Actors Guild Awards

Thanks to the cancelation of the Golden Globes ceremony, the hottest ticket in town was tonight’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. Without a picket line to cross, celebrities from TV and Film were allowed to celebrate - and commiserate - together for the first time in a long while.
For star-deprived fans, the SAG red carpet was also a treat for sore eyes. What were our favorite actresses wearing? What were the latest trends? Which dresses were going to be copied by Allen Schwartz tomorrow?
Unfortunately, the evening was not all about partying. The recent deaths of Suzanne Pleshette and Heath Ledger cast a somber tone on what would normally be a festive occasion. Thankfully, tonight was not about dissecting their lives, but merely about honoring them.
Meanwhile, the neglected winners of this month’s Globes were also hoping to get a share of the honors. If they were able to pull off another victory tonight, maybe they would have a chance to give the speech they already had written.
Well, without further ado, here’s the play-by-play of tonight’s events coming to you from the fashionably late West Coast!

Take note. If you want to see your favorite actors and actresses lined up in their finest, this may be the gala to watch. This may be last time you get to see a group of actors celebrating together for quite some time.

2008 Golden Globe Nominations (TV)
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, ABC, BBC, Cable, CBS, FX, HBO, NBC, PBS, Showtime, TNT-HD, Entourage, Extras, Grey's Anatomy, House, Medium, My Name Is Earl, The Office, The Sopranos
So who cares if no one will be in attendance, the Golden Globe nominations must go on! (If the ceremony continues on as planned, it will air Sunday, January 13th on NBC.)
Here are the most notable omissions/additions in this year’s list of television honorees:
- Damages and Longford led the pack with 4 nominations each.
- James Gandolfini and The Sopranos were both left out of the races (though Edie Falco did get a nod).
- Three of the nominees for best TV Comedy (Entourage, Extras, Californation) came from pay-cable networks.
- Past faves (Desperates Housewives, Heroes, Ugly Betty) were nowhere to be found. (Though America Ferrera did earn a nod for her individual achievement.)
- HBO led the networks with 18 nominations; ABC was second with 11.

‘Bionic Woman’ Hires Mechanic
Posted by David Onda Categories: Action, Drama, Prime Time, Sci-Fi/Horror, NBC, Editorial, News, Ratings, Rumors
NBC’s uber-hyped action drama Bionic Woman is in desperate need of a little oil around the joints. Never mind the fact that I like the show, or that star Michelle Ryan is a freakin’ gorgeous Alicia Silverstone look-alike - it still runs slower than Miss Teen South Carolina’s thought process. Enter Jason Cahill, a.k.a. that award-winning writer from The Sopranos. He joins a team that includes Friday Night Lights’ Jason Katims, who is pulling double duty so he can serve as “consultant” for the poorly assembled Woman. The show will certainly go the way of the Dodo bird as it is, unless Cahill can pick up the pace and save NBC the trouble of filling a Wednesday timeslot.

The 59th Annual Primetime Emmys: In Review
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Award Shows, Prime Time, FOX, American Idol, Daily Show, The, Desperate Housewives, Family Guy, The Office, The Sopranos, Gossip, Ratings
It was an evening of firsts at the 59th annual primetime Emmys. The first time the awards show was on FOX. The first time Ryan Seacrest (resident FOX golden boy) hosted. The first time green concerns were proudly touted. And the first time I didn’t laugh at the Emmy host – not even once. FOX unabashedly promoted their own stars and shows all night long, though there were precious few wins for the network. Brian and Stewie from Family Guy provided some animated laughs, Lewis Black ranted and raved and performed a bit in the middle of the whole thing, and I found myself largely confused throughout the three hour-plus broadcast. Toward the end, Seacrest actually walked out on stage in a Henry VIII costume and told a gay joke – I couldn’t make this up if I tried, this actually happened. TV’s elite looked on in a mixture of horror and worry. Seacrest, unsurprisingly, acted and spoke exactly as he does while on American Idol. The strange, round stage provoked a lot of funny comments, and for a rare awards show change it was the acceptance speeches that became the saving grace of the FOX broadcast.
