Neil Patrick Harris to Host Tony Awards

Neil Patrick Harris is to host the Tony Awards.
The How I Met Your Mother star will take control of proceedings at the annual ceremony, which recognizes the best of Broadway theatre, for a third time and he can't wait to helm the show again.
"I'm thrilled to be a part of this year's Tony Awards. Not only will I be shining a spotlight on the best that Broadway has to offer, but hopefully I'll score some free house seats to a show - or five!" he said in a statement.
Harris hosted the event last year and in 2009, a stint which earned him and the production team an Emmy Award. The 38-year-old star - who shot to fame as the titular character in hit TV series Doogie Howser, M.D. - is also established on Broadway and has had roles in the play Proof and the musicals Cabaret and Assassins.
The 2012 Tony Awards will broadcast live on CBS on June 10 from New York's Beacon Theater.

Tonight, the annual Emmy Awards telecast will be aired live on both the East and West Coasts (finally!). The ceremony will also incorporate fan tweets into Jimmy Fallon’s material—but will there be any other surprises in the 2010 broadcast?
Will 30 Rock continue its domination in the Comedy category, or will Glee - or even Modern Family - finally topple the reigning champ? Will Mad Men snag another Best Drama win, or will Lost get a statue for its final season?
What will Conan O’Brien say if he wins for The Tonight Show during this NBC event? Will Elisabeth Moss address soon-to-be ex-husband Fred Armisen if she wins for Best Supporting Actress? Oh – the awkward possibilities are endless!
So who won and who lost at the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards? Read our West Coast play-by-play account of this evening’s telecast and find out!

As they say in the entertainment industry, “The show must go on.” And that’s exactly what happened last night.
During the opening number at the Tonys, Bret Michaels - along with the other Poison members and the Rock of Ages cast - got the audience warmed up with a performance of “Nothin’ But a Good Time.” It’s what happened after the song that made the most impact.

MONDAY 6/1)
- I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! (NBC, 8pm): Series premiere. “In the opener, 10 celebrities are dropped into the heart of the jungle to begin competing in various challenges that test their survival skills.” The first victim? Sanjaya Malakar‘s hair.
- Jon & Kate Plus Eight (TLC, 9pm): “The kids team up with professional baker Duff Goldman (Ace of Cakes) to create a special surprise for Kate on her birthday.” Kate, having been left all alone, will be forced to stuff her own pinatas.
- Unwrapped (Food, 9pm): “Fried foods are featured. Included: Ian’s organic chicken nuggets.” As if an organic version would make them less wrong.

Sunday Ratings: Theater Awards Don’t Translate to TV
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Animation, Award Shows, Comedy, Prime Time, Specials, Sports, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Everybody Hates Chris, Family Guy, Saturday Night Live, Ratings,
Although Tony Awards telecasts have never been ratings goldmines, last night’s event had to compete with golf and basketball. Yesterday’s contest between the Celtics and the Lakers gave ABC another win in both the viewers and the demos.
8pm
- NBC‘s coverage of the U.S. Open (3.9/13 in-18-49) attracted 13.8 million golf fans.
- Jimmy Kimmel‘s special (8.2 million, 3.2/11) did 800,000 better than last Sunday; the NBA pre-game show (9.8 million, 4.0/12) grew by 1.9 million.
- Approximately 6.2 million theater lovers watched the 2008 Tony Awards (1.1/3).
- The Simpsons* (3.7 million, 1.8/6) was down by 400,000; King of the Hill* (3.6 million, 1.7/5) slipped by 300,000.
- Everybody Hates Chris* (1.1 million, 0.4/1) and Aliens in America* (1.1 million, 0.4/1) turned out similar numbers.

MONDAY (6/9)
- The Bachelorette (ABC, 8pm): “DeAnna accuses the 9 remaining bachelors of refusing to take the competition seriously, but first she invites them to compete in a singing contest.” I don’t understand why those guys don’t see the importance of a proper serenade.
- Quads with 2 Moms (Discovery Health, 8pm): “A same-sex couple who want to become parents undergo fertility treatments and both become pregnant with twins.” I just can’t believe Oprah didn’t get a hold of this story first!
- Greek (ABC Family, 8pm): Season finale. “The Cyprus-Rhodes students head to the beach for Spring Break where Casey finally decides to leave the past behind and cut loose.” And by “decides”, we mean she finally “downs” a couple of shots and forgets the past.
- Nashville Star (NBC, 9pm): Season/network premiere. “Billy Ray Cyrus takes over the hosting from Jewel, who moves to the judges’ table alongside country stars John Rich and Jeffrey Steele.” I never thought the day would come when I would compare Jewel to Paula Abdul.
