American Idol 8: Top 11 Results

The mood was appropriately grave at the top of the Wednesday night American Idol hour. It was a somber Ryan Seacrest who started off the evening by saying, “one will face the fire.” He also inferred that the evening would hold “shocking” results.
Could it be that, as suspected, Adam Lambert was up on the chopping block? The audience would have to wait awhile to find out what the evening held.
First, the filler. The Top 11 were seated on the stage, the judges were introduced, the performances of the evening hyped. Clips from Tuesday night aired, which featured mentor Randy Travis.
The Top 11 then performed “Trouble,” which started out with the men. Scott MacIntyre jammed on the piano while the male contestants sang, horribly out of harmony, before the girls appeared to gyrate oddly and screech onstage. I didn’t much care for the group number.

Idol Divas Talk Tour
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip
The five females who managed to snag coveted Top 10 spots on the seventh season of American Idol recently talked with reporters about the aftermath of the show and the beginning of the summer tour.
The tour kicked off in Arizona, the first of 49 cities which will soon welcome the group of crooners. Diminutive Ramiele Malubay feels positive about the tour, saying there will be “no one to say you sang horrible.”
“It’s not about what a judge is going to say. It’s about the music and the fans connecting and having a great time,” offered Brooke White.
Carly Smithson also felt cheerful, saying “it’s amazing. Nobody is going to judge us after we sing.” Third-place finalist Syesha Mercado likened the tour to “a mini-concert for each person.”
“We sing three songs each,” Brooke White said of herself and her fellow females, “David Cook five, Archuleta will sing four. I think a lot of people had the impression it was going to be a bunch of group numbers, but it’s not. We actually are going out as individual performers and do our own set, our own music.”

Idols Hit the Road
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip

American Idol gives its contestants a grueling schedule during the weeks of shooting live performances, Ford video commercials and sessions with mentors. The show may be over - the hard work is not.
Even while the Idols sing a path across the U.S. (they’ll visit 49 cities in 72 days), some of the finalists will be pulling double duty and making records at the same time. Davids Cook and Archuleta, the season’s final two men standing, will both be working on tracks even as they woo audiences.
Thanks to a new deal with 19 Recordings and Arista Nashville, Kristy Lee Cook (who managed to astound judges and audiences with her unimagined longevity in the contest) will also be working on her debut album. The first single “15 Minutes of Shame,” is scheduled for an August 11 release. Cook was formerly signed to this same label years before, but never had the chance to record a single song.

Can Disney Rock the Ratings Again?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Kids, Music, Prime Time, Cable, Gossip

Lightning doesn’t strike twice…unless you build the right kind of rod. No one anticipated the runaway success of Disney’s High School Musical, and now the powers-that-be are determined not to be caught unawares a second time. Fanfare and fan participation became the bookends of the High School Musical 2 marketing campaign…and even this pales in comparison to the star treatment the network is giving the soon-to-be-released Camp Rock.
The promos have been going strong for weeks, the Web site is filled with glitter and pizazz, and the debut is scheduled for June 20. Are you itching to set your DVR?
With the Jonas Brothers co-starring and a crop of fresh-faced youngsters, Disney is treating Rock like it’s the heir apparent to the Musical throne (the stars of which are moving quickly past the high school stage of their lives). But…is it?

The seventh season of American Idol is over, the winner crowned, the competition decided. So what’s next for Idol‘s two famous sons, David Cook and David Archuleta?
David Cook recently told reporters his debut album will “probably be a rock record,” an album that will “make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.” Cook hopes to get the album out as soon as possible, and currently plans to use some of his own songwriting for tracks.

‘Dancing With The Stars’ Extends Invite to Hillary Clinton
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Dancing With The Stars, Gossip
During last month’s sit down with Tyra Banks, Hillary Clinton said she would like to perform on Dancing with the Stars. (Okay - what she really said was given a choice of competing on either the dancing competition or America’s Next Top Model, she should probably be on the former.) Well that remark not only amused the audience, it perked up a few ears at ABC.
Just last week, Jared Paul, DWTS’ co-producer, extended an invitation to the presidential candidate. Although the reality show is not currently taping, it is still on tour. It’s Paul’s hope that the senator will exploit one of their upcoming stops for her own campaign purposes. (This is what you would call a win-win situation.) Clinton would be given her pick of male dancer and preferred style of dance.
While an appearance would seem unlikely, Hillary has been doing all she can to drum up support. And really - this wouldn’t be that much different from her stints on Tyra, Letterman or the Ryan Seacrest radio show. So who knows?
As of today’s date, she has four tour stops left to choose from (CT, RI, PA). Let’s see if she can manage to squeeze in another gig.

Achy Breaky Reality Show
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Kids, Music, Prime Time, Reality, Cable
Who would’ve thought that “Achy Breaky Heart” singer and mullet wearer-extraordinaire, Billy Ray Cyrus, would ever make a comeback? With the starring role on the series Doc on PAX TV, a handful of guest appearances and now, most notably, a role on Hannah Montana, Cyrus is officially back. And he’s not just riding daughter Miley Cyrus’ coattails now. He’s taking his return to fame and running with it—with a new reality series, of course. Cyrus is working with CMT to develop a reality show that shows his life as a musician and dad. The show, titled Billy Ray Cyrus: Home at Last, doesn’t seem like it will be nearly as entertaining as Being Bobby Brown, but I’m sure he’ll tap into loads of fans on Country Music Television. Plus, viewers will get a behind-the-scenes look at daddy getting ready to tour and Miley/Hannah getting set to tour. The show will debut on November 24th at 9:30 p.m.
