Usher Excited About The Voice

Usher can't wait to "nourish talent" on The Voice.
The "OMG" hitmaker and Shakira will join the panel of the singing competition next season as replacements for Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green and Usher - who famously mentored Justin Bieber - is excited about discovering new stars and guiding their careers.
"This is an opportunity for me to allow [audiences] into the world and into that process of [artist development]... it kind of gives credence to what artist development is truly all about and [The Voice]. I think, is really sustaining the artists of the future. The point is, being a part of The Voice gives me that opportunity to not only spot talent but nourish it and also allow the world to be a part of that process."
Usher is also excited that the competition isn't concerned with how its contestants look but instead judges them on their talent. "The cool part about The Voice is that it starts with the voice and obviously it's going to end with the voice. If you make an incredible record, it lasts forever," he added.

Usher and Shakira Join The Voice

Usher and Shakira are set to replace Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green on The Voice. The pair were recruited to join the fourth season of the singing show after Christina decided to leave to spend time touring and promoting her new album Lotus while Cee Lo is working with NBC on a new show of his own. However, they will both return for season five.
"Doing two back-to-back cycles of this show requires a tremendous amount of time, and we are happy to accommodate the commitments made by Christina and Cee Lo. The participants on our show benefit from our coaches' expertise and their continued success in the music business allows for significant new contributions to the contestants when they return," said chairman of NBC Entertainment Robert Greenblatt.

MONDAY (7/19)
- Behind the Music (VH1, 8pm): “Usher is profiled through interviews and archival clips. The R&B star discusses his relationship with TLC’s Chilli.” I’d hate to say things are still “chilly” between them, but…
- Rizzoli & Isles (TNT, 10pm): “Jane clashes with her new boss (Donnie Wahlberg).” You have to hang tough with that guy.
- True Beauty (ABC, 10pm): Season finale. “The three beauties left are paired with celebrities to party the night away. They then don’t get to sleep it off, but instead must film a commercial about Las Vegas. One player folds like a house of cards from the sleep deprivation.” Beauty sleep is for suckers who can’t afford plastic surgery.

American Idol 9: Top 10 Results
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Video,
American Idol’s Top 10 results show opened with a Clash of the Titans movie tie-in. Simon Cowell, of course, was the villain, with the contestants portrayed as Titans in the opening video package. It was pretty cute, but it’s still blatant cross-promotional advertising.
Viewers were not graced with a group performance this week. To see the entire Top 10 singing together on one stage, it seems you’ll have to go to one of the summer tour shows. Though the Idols did not sing together, this particular results show was still jam-packed with stage shows, starting with one favorite AI alum.

American Idol 9: Top 10 Perform

Ryan Seacrest started the Tuesday performance show in the backstage area, something of an unusual start for American Idol. After Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres exchanged a kiss, the host walked to the big stage to soak up applause from the waiting crowd. Ellen’s outfit, by the way, was pretty weird-looking.
The Top 10 performers of this performance round will for ever be part of the Idol pantheon. This summer, they will tour the country and continue to peddle music. After that, only a few of them - if even that many - will go on to lasting recording industry success. Will your favorite season 9 contestant soon be a Grammy-winning artist? Maybe…but first, they’ve got to get through this week’s elimination.
Usher was the mentor for the week, the theme of which is R&B/Soul in honor of the star. “To be a great performer, you really have to understand what it takes,” he told the contestants upon their group meeting. “I want you to be great.”
“This is their time to shine, and this is the stage to do it on,” Usher seemed to accept his responsibility with sincerity and seriousness.

This scene will be featured on Glee this Wednesday. It’s a combination of Bon Jovi’s “My Life” and Usher’s “Confessions.”
If the rest of the episode is as good as this clip, FOX will have another big ratings week on their hands.

Television Coverage of Jackson’s Star-Studded Memorial
UPDATE: CBS and NBC have now decided to jump on the live coverage bandwagon.
Not a winner in the Michael Jackson memorial lottery? Not a problem. You can still get a front row viewing while sparing yourself the cost of a flight.
Although 17,500 get the chance to be in either the Staples Center or the Nokia Theater, free television coverage will allow everyone an opportunity to witness the events as they unfold.
According to a release from the Jackson family, participants at Tuesday’s memorial include Kobe Bryant, Mariah Carey, Berry Gordy, Jennifer Hudson, Shaheen Jafargholi (finalist on Britain’s Got Talent), Magic Johnson, Martin Luther King III, Bernice A. King, John Mayer, Lionel Richie, Smokey Robinson, Rev. Al Sharpton, Brooke Shields, Usher and Stevie Wonder.

MONDAY 12/1)- Shrek the Halls (ABC, 8pm): Hopefully this Mike Myers laugher will help us all forget The Love Guru.
- Inside the Actor’s Studio (Bravo, 8pm): “Daniel Radcliffe, star of the Harry Potter film franchise, charts his career journey.” I’m not sure I want to see James Lipton enthusiastically talking about Radcliffe’s nude Broadway performance.
- Heroes (NBC, 9pm): “Ando, Sam and Frack try to restore Hiro’s memory with a comic book.” Any person trying to follow this series should be given an instruction manual.
- Boston Legal (ABC, 10pm): “When Denny receives bad news about the state of his Alzheimer’s, Alan goes before the Massachusetts Supreme Court to plead for access to an experimental drug that can help his condition.” Alzheimers? Maybe Shatner simply forgot why George Takei dislikes him so.

Janet Jackson Seeks Her Replacement on MTV
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Drama, Kids, Music, Prime Time, Reality, Specials, MTV, American Idol, Dancing With The Stars, Rock Star, So You Think You Can Dance, Talent, Announcements, Gossip, News,
Reality TV producers over at MTV have apparently lured pop icon Janet Jackson into developing yet another American Idol-esque series.
“It’s really about finding who’s the next Janet Jackson or Justin Timberlake or Usher,” executive producer David Broome explains; however, I am a bit unsure as to why we would need to find the next Janet, Justin, or Usher when all three are still rather successful artists today. Perhaps a hint at Jackson’s fall from her pop star throne?
Either way you slice it, the upcoming MTV show sounds just like Making the Band to me.
Fearing blatant comparisons to its predecessors, Boome added, “We’ll find it from a pool of people who you wouldn’t typically find it from. We’ll go to YMCAs, church groups, local community centers and try to cast the show.”
Wow! A reality show with a heart? I doubt it.
