I’m a Celebrity: Speidi Gets Out of There
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, NBC, Gossip, Rumors

The second night of I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Here marked the first voting round of the competition. This was the public’s first change to choose who would stay and who would go. The results of this vote will be revealed later in the week.
The show opened with the rest of the trauma tank challenge. Patti Blagojevich was the first celeb, in this episode, to ask for release from the spider, insect and snake-filled tank of torment. Water then started to seep in around everyone’s heads. Snakes began to wrap themselves around former wrestling diva Torrie Wilson’s face and Lou Diamond Phillips was soon taking in too much water - he was forced to pull up and out of the challenge. Torrie Wilson also had to rise because of the water. This left Stephen Baldwin and Sanjaya Malakar, who became the winner of the challenge. This means the blue team - the men - won immunity, and would therefore be safe no matter the results of the public vote. And just like that, the first real challenge was over and done - with Malakar, the youngest of the bunch, emerging as the victor.

AT&T Responds to American Idol Voting Controversy
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Rumors
As previously reported, reports have surfaced that one of American Idol’s biggest sponsors, AT&T, might have influenced the surprising conclusion of season 8.
According to the New York Times, AT&T reps were present at Kris Allen parties during the final voting night of American Idol 8. Allegedly, employees of the company not only provided free text-messaging to party-goers but also showed them how to power text. This method of texting allows voters to send out multiple votes simultaneously, using only a single button. Technically, power texting is against the Idol voting rules.

American Idol: Voting Scandal?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Rumors

According to the New York Times, AT&T became a big part of several Kris Allen parties during last week’s American Idol 8 finale. Their reports suggest marked voter influencing and support for that camp.
Allegedly, AT&T representatives not only provided free text-messaging services to Allen party attendees, but also taught texters how to power-text. This method of texting allows users to send many messages at once, with a single button. This could make it easier to send out many more votes in favor of one Idol contestant.
In case you somehow missed it, AT&T is a huge American Idol sponsor.

American Idol 8: Matt Giraud’s Peaceful Elimination
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip
“I never imagined myself the American Idol,” Matt Giraud admitted after his exit from the show Wednesday. “I was kind of at peace with the whole thing,” he said of ousting from the show, which occurred a mere two weeks after he was saved from the elimination noose by the new judges’ save.
Giraud is looking forward to joining the Idol tour this summer, and thinks perhaps he’ll start a band when all his roadwork is said and done. “Maybe something like The Fray,” he suggested. “I’d love to go in that direction.”

American Idol 8: First Results Show
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Video
Twenty-four million votes were tabulated to bring us the first results show of American Idol 8, which aired live Wednesday night. Out of the twelve who came to sing, only three would definitely move forward into the Top 12.
And all of them wanted to be there.
The night started out slowly - it takes a lot of filler to say three names in sixty minutes - with judge reactions from last night’s singing. Of course, we all heard their reactions right after the singing, but let’s hear it again. New judge on the panel Kara DioGuardi “thought it was a good show” but found some performers (namely Casey Carlson, Stephen Fowler and Stevie Wright) “disappointing.”
The first group of twelve then performed “I’m Yours,” only passably well, which disappointed me. But soon enough, it was time to start weeding the Idol garden.

Barack Obama Makes His Statement
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Specials, CBS, FOX, NBC, Editorial, Video
In a highly presidential fashion, democratic White House contender Barack Obama bought up thirty minutes of network TV time (on several stations, no less) to directly address the American public he hopes to win over. It was all very State of the Union - and incredibly politically savvy. But did his message strike a chord with viewers?
Replete with clips of Obama’s more moving speeches and statements from fellow Democrats along with high-ranking CEOs and others, the half-hour infomercial put Barack right into the living rooms of U.S. voters. There was no stage, there were no other candidates jockeying for position or good sound bites; there was no Sarah Palin or John McCain. It was, all in all, one of the best aspects of the entire campaign season thus far.

Real Wonder Woman Sounds off on Sarah Palin
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Editorial

For years (four, to be precise), Lynda Carter wowed fans in her skimpy flag-inspired costume and deadly accessories. She personified truth, justice and beauty with her raven locks and rock-hard abs. She was Wonder Woman, and for many men who remember her heyday she still is a heroine.
But when asked her feelings about Sarah Palin, whom the media refers to as a wonder woman, the “real” Wonder Woman didn’t even try to act demure. What did Lynda Carter have to say about the self-styled hockey mom, bulldog-in-lipstick who is John McCain’s running mate?
Be advised, her show may have been child-friendly, but that doesn’t mean Lynda Carter’s political comments are.

The Palin Interview
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Specials, Talk Shows, ABC, Editorial, Video
In her longest and most in-depth interview since the Republican party’s surprising Vice Presidential announcement, Sarah Palin sat down for an intimate one-on-one with ABC anchor Charlie Gibson. She called him “Charlie” like they were old friends, he called her “Governor Palin” to remind us all that she is, indeed, a high-ranking public official. Otherwise, it might be too easy to take one look at her and say “wait, what’s she doing on TV?”
“Can you look the country in the eye and say, ‘I have the experience and the ability’?” Gibson wanted to know of Palin, whose short political career has never taken her to Washington, D.C. (Palin has not served in the Congress or Senate).
“I do, Charlie…” Palin affirmed, “I’m ready.”
In this case, she meant she’s ready to lead the country. But I saw her interview, and I’m convinced she wasn’t even fully prepped for that much.

Let the Arguments Begin: Debate Schedule Released
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Specials, CBS, PBS, Features

Both sides have met, looked over their schedules, and finally come to a conclusion. That’s right, America’s two greatest political parties have at long last worked together to reach a decision: after weeks and weeks, they’ve finally agreed to a schedule for the Presidential and Vice Presidential debates.
The interrogation begins in September. The 26th of the month, to be precise, the first Presidential debate will take place in Oxford, Mississippi at the University of Mississippi. You can view the arguments on PBS, as the event will be moderated by Jim Lehrer (The NewsHour). The time is scheduled for talk on foreign policy and national security, i.e. the war in Iraq.
October 2 will see the Vice Presidential debates, which I fully expect will score record ratings this year. This takes place in St. Louis, Missouri at Washington University and can also be viewed on PBS. The moderator is Gwen Ifill, also of The NewsHour.

Betting on the Davids: American Idol Odds
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip

The American Idol finale spectacular is a mere days away, but already the eyes of the world are turning to the two remaining contestants: David Archuleta and David Cook. This epic battle between rocker and balladeer has been the hoped-for season ending….but will it all shake out the way you think? Can’t decide which David has a better chance? Maybe the odds makers can help.
BodogSports shows that David Cook is the current betting favorite (he has 250 odds, which basically means that if you were to -only theoretically, mind you, as I’m not advocating gambling on this nor any other event- bet $250 on David you’d only win $100 back). Archuleta, meanwhile is the underdog with +170 odds (if you bet $100, you’d get back $170).
Bet365, another site, also shows that David Archuleta is no longer the odds-on Idol favorite. This British-based site does not take bets from American citizens, showing that the David-David conundrum has captivated the entire world.
Remember, these odds are by no means accurate portrayal of the voting wave which is sure to come after Tuesday’s performance episode. For all we know, David Cook could trip over the microphone stand and David Archuleta could forget every word to one of his songs. In other words, vote the way you want - blast the betting odds.
