Hitched or Ditched

In the midst of between-season re-runs and in place of 90210, The CW managed to sneak in a new reality show. And thus, premiered last night with its pilot, “Bastards Out of Carolina.” Relationships, the possibility of marriage (or a public dumping), family drama and episode titles this titillating? Yeah, it was pretty much a given that this one was going to be good.

In this starter episode, viewers were introduced to the first in a season-long line of couples. For this showing, Hitched or Ditched presented us with CeLisa and Travis. She’s a 26 year old nanny, he’s a 32 year old building contractor. At the top of the episode, they were presented as a couple that’s very much in love…but. She thinks he’s got commitment and jealousy issues; he thinks she’s too much of a wild child and can’t seem to fully trust her. When CeLisa told the cameras that she feels her biological clock “ticking, ticking, ticking,” I felt a shiver of dread.

Like, no wonder the dude’s afraid of marriage.

The Hills: Were You Surprised?

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt Though the leading promos seemed to promise otherwise, Heidi Montag did not become Mrs. Spencer Pratt on season finale.

The couple was all set to marry in the Beverly Hills courthouse…until Pratt backed out of the whole thing.

He had a little encouragement to this end from Stephanie, who told him, “You can’t do this. She’s going to regret this. I think this is wrong.”

Not the marriage, mind you, just the wedding. You see, Heidi wants a big wedding. The show has been making a big deal out of this.

And so, Spencer called it off. “I just want to give you the wedding of your dreams that you have been talking about for three years. I’ll deal with it. It’s worth it to be with you the rest of my life. We’ll do it the way you want.”

Queue the white doves, long limos and three hundred guests - the big wedding would make for a great season-opener. Hey, that’s probably what MTV is thinking, too.

In one of those bizarre celebrity pairings, three time Academy Award nominee recently sat down with MTV reality star Spencer Pratt. Er…sort of.

Cruise apparently stopped to chat on The Hills After Show (seriously, yes, there’s an after show) and ended up talking to a picture of (who I guess is way too cool to actually attend the after show). The famously married movie star offered up some pearls of wisdom to the newly-married TV personality.

A Redneck Look at Matrimony

CMT Logo is set to start airing , an eight-episode which will feature at the helm.  Each episode will showcase a different redneck wedding, highlighting particularly countrified wedding elements (shotguns, beer cans, etc.). One episode even promises to feature mud wrestling at the wedding reception.  (If that doesn’t say redneck, nothing does.) The series will premiere on CMT January 11 at 9:30 pm.

CMT is also behind interesting, funny reality shows like and the spin-off , which offers weight-loss and exercise tips, boot camp style, to out-of-shape drivers.

Nicole Richie: All Grown Up?

Nicole RichieStrange things happen to women when they get pregnant, but it’s hard not to look at some celebs with a cynical eye. How is it possible, for instance, that a party girl and troublemaker, reality star and celebutante, could suddenly become a responsible adult? Believe it or not, Nicole Richie seems ready to accept that role.

The expectant starlet recently delayed her wedding to boyfriend (and father-to-be) Joel Madden, but she’s moving forward with other areas of her life. Now that she’s going to be a mother herself, Nicole is looking for a way to bury the hatchet with her biological parents, people she’s had a rocky relationship with from the age of three. Nicole plans to open up about her biological parents in an upcoming interview, and hopes to pave the way for a future relationship.  Meanwhile, the postponed nuptials will take place after the birth of her baby - the sex of which Richie has opted to not learn.

Once, she was a sidekick to frenemy Paris Hilton. Now, she’s a young mother-to-be doing her best to bridge the gap between her past and the future. Unbelievably, it looks like Miss Richie is finally growing up.

Dancing’s Helio Castroneves No Longer Engaged

In less than one year, DWTS’ has seen two weddings become dissolved and/or delayed.  Last season the sexy, blonde dancer had to deflect rumors of a possible romance between her and partner, speed skater .  Unfortunately, the ‘postponement’ of her own August nuptials didn’t help quiet the buzz much.

Now, Hough’s Season 5 partner is having betrothal problems of his own.  People has exclusively announced that wedding to Aliette Vazquez - which had already been ‘postponed’ due to his busy schedule - has now officially been called off.  While no one has (yet) blamed his fiery chemistry with Julianne for the cancellation, I’m sure many people will now be playing back their looooong smooch after yesterday’s quickstep performance.  (I have to admit, it made me a bit uncomfortable—and that was before I had heard the announcement.) 

Maybe Hough should be the one paired with the -esque celebrity next year just to keep things safe.

Paris Plans Party for Nicole Richie

Paris Hilton and Nicole RichieParis Hilton is hard at work planning a baby shower for her galpal and greatest frenemy Nicole Richie. Hilton is still looking for ideas on games to play and what to buy her BFF, as the gender of Richie’s baby has not yet been determined.  (Richie decided to wait to find out the sex.)

Paris says the shower will contain Nicole’s closest girlfriends and relatives, and will be thrown this Sunday at the Beverly Hills Hotel. and (sis and mom to Paris) will also attend the event, as Richie has been a Hilton family friend for most of her life.

Nicole Richie’s wedding with , the baby’s father, was recently postponed and will be held after the birth, which is expected in 2008.

Former Apprentice Winner, E! Newser Tie the Knot

Bill Rancic and Giuliana DePandiIt’s the wedding of the year! Well, maybe not so much… but it’s an interesting television union, nonetheless. Bill Rancic, who won the very first season of The Apprentice (remember that? when it was good?) and E! News co-anchor Giuliana DePandi got hitched over the weekend. The nuptials were held in Italy in a Catholic ceremony that was conducted in English and Italian. Rancic’s priest from Chicago was even on hand to conduct the ceremony. While Chelsea Handler of E!‘s Chelsea Lately was one of the 180 guests, there were no Ryan Seacrest sightings (maybe he was too busy working one of his many jobs?)... and Donald Trump, although invited, was not present. The couple met when DePandi interviewed Rancic in 2004, but didn’t start dating until 2006. His proposal in December was typical—if you consider being asked in a helicopter ride over Chicago typical. Since both are used to life in front of the cameras, naturally they captured the details of their wedding in a show for the Style Network, called Marry Me in Capri. The show airs October 23rd. The honeymoon is on hold because DePandi has to get back to work—covering the Emmys, and Rancic is set to host iVillage’s “In the Loop.”

Nicole Richie’s Nuptials

Nicole RichieFriends of say the mother-to-be wants to get her wedding planned and completed as quickly as she can, mostly so the baby belly won’t show up in her wedding photos. The guest list will include about two hundred of Richie’s closest friends, a large wedding that doesn’t lend itself to quick planning. Richie would like to be married before September 28, when she’s due to appear in county jail for her DUI conviction. Lionel Richie’s Bel-Air home has been offered to Nicole and Joel as the site of the wedding, and the singer has even agreed to sing at his daughter’s wedding.
